Do you want Zach Randolph?

Dave from SBN Hoops brother site Blazers Edge recently tried to shop Zach Randolph to us and several other team bloggers. Despite his rare 20-10 ability, Randolph didn't spark much interest on the "blogger trading block".

  1. Do you want Zach Randolph on the Warriors?
  2. Do you think the Warriors' front office would trade for Zach Randolph?

Maybe
If it's like Murph for Zach straight up I'd do it but chances are they'll want more so probably not.

no
he cant play d, cant run, and gets arrested. we alredy have a 10 rebounder in murph, and randolph wont put up the same numbers when he wont be the only player on the team who can score. the only thing to get me interested wood be murph traded for randlph and either jack or a future pick, something i doubt the blazers wood do. even then its iffy cuz randolph style reminds me of diogu and we coudnt have em both on the floor

Randolph is garbage
20 and 10 is deceptive.  20 points on 44% from the floor isn't so great for a power foward and his inefficiency is a big part of why Portland stunk it up with him as their main man.

I don't really see what Randolph provides over Murphy.  Randolph surpassed 10 rpg once, when he played 38 minutes a night.  Murphy's a better rebounder, getting his 10 in far fewer minutes. Randolph only scores more by dominating the ball.  He's hardly automatic down low.

If it were just production, I'd still not want to swap Murphy for Randolph, essentially getting the opportunity to pay more for less.  But with Randolph's baggage, it's even less of a no brainer.  Stay away from Randolph.

Thumbs Down
We don't need Zack either because of Ike.  Don't see how he solves our problem unless some team wants him more than Murphy and we can do a 3-way.  It will be easier to trade Murphy since he's got less baggage.

Other PFs I wouldn't trade for:  Kenyon Martin.  Too big a risk.

I'd consider Carlos Boozer for Murphy even if he does have some question marks.  He can play some C and is more tradeable than Murphy IMHO.

Humbled
by being mentioned on an actual story.  After making my post I thought alot, but couldnt decide until the Don Nelson hiring.  Zach Randolph would murder the uptempo offense we all assume Nellie will implement.  Troy Murphy is an obscenely poor, impoverished, homeless mans Dirk Nowitzki, and Nellie has done well with that in the past.  I am worried though, about what impact this has on Ike, cause as much as we all love him, he isnt exactly the model uptempo foward, similar to Randolph.  Counting on Nellie to figure that out in someway, its nice when you have a coach you actually believe can work things out.
Well theres always next year x12

murder
It would be Nelson who would murder Randolph, if we were foolish enough to pick him up. I wouldn't play Randolph if he played for free. He brings offenses to a halt, unless its the other team's offense, in which case he lets it go wherever it's already headed. Speaking of headed, he's so hardheaded that he works as a wrecking ball in the offseason. And also during the season, if it's a practice day. Dead people work on their game more than he does. I'd rather have Spike Lee at power forward.

Spike Lee at power forward
At least Spike would "Do the Right Thing"

Hahaha, sorry bad joke.

got much love for Spike
he's a truth-teller, and "When the Levees Broke" is an historic, essential documentary of New Orleans and Katrina.

In terms of Zach, I remember seeing him on fire a year or two back, and thinking that he could be the next 25 & 12, game-winning shot-hitting strong forward star.

The main reason not to get him is chemistry: we just can't handle his personality with our current crew.  Nelson is a big-picture guy, and he'll bring a lot of vision and structural insights into how we can win games with our current squad.  But he's not necessarily a big-hearted guy, and as it is he's going to need to find lots of room in his heart for the various prima donna would-be superstars, from Baron to Pietrus to Dunleavy and on down.  We really couldn't handle another underperforming, huge ego needing of massage.

But who knows?  Once we put Mario Eli in charge...

Leon Powe could have been our next Larry Smith. Instead we have a couple more candidates for the next Joe Barry Carroll.

If you want a dead player then sure
Remember reading an article saying that Randolph's high school coach used to read the newspaper every morning to see if Randolph was found shot dead.

That's not the kind of player we want or need now is it

deja vu?
that wagon left the barn weeks ago - back when the Blazers traded Telfair (to Boston) they committed to pounding it in to ZR on offense; changing course now would set them further back. They'd be better off riding ZR than trading him for less than equal value:
``We had to make a decision," said McMillan. ``In our minds, Sebastian was the future, but did the combination of Sebastian and Zach Randolph work? And do the players we have fit the style of play that Sebastian brings to the floor? They don't. ... We had to make a decision: build around Sebastian or build around Zach. And the decision was to build around Zach." [Boston Globe]
... now if they had that choice over again ...
