Najera's Warriors Jerseys: HOT OR NOT???

najera
In the 4th installment of the GSoM Fashion competition, we ask you not whether a Eduardo Najera jersey is hot or not per se, but whether rockin the jersey of a somewhat temporary, irrelevant and former Warrior (i.e. Luis Flores, Vonteego Cummings, or John Starks--during his second tenure with the Warriors) is in good taste.  This is by no means dissing on role players or hating on them, but most people buy the jerseys of all-stars and superstars.  Does buying a Najera (insert any random 8th-12th man) tell us about your loyalties to the team?  Does it also tell us that you probably found it on the clearance rack at JC Penny the summer after he was dealt?  If you picked it up and rocked it at the games when he no longer played there, is that hot or not?

I believe that NBA merchandise is beyond expensive; the way it costs you'd think you were rockin' Versace, Manolo, or, heck, even Sean John!  Think about it: 60-90 bucks for a top, that's outrageous!  But rockin' Najera instead of Arenas or Richardson, seems to say more than just Warriors fan.. or does it?

If you saw this jersey hangin' at Ross, would you buy it?  My instincts say "NOT."  Based on the "snakes on a shoe" survey, my guess is the rest of you will say NOT

It's loyalty
Man, I'm still trying to find a never-worn CWebb Warriors jersey.

A Boykins Warriors jersey would be hot too!

Word
I purchased an Earl Boykins jersey that was both stained and maybe a size or 3 too small.

Also its the screenprinted Reebok version from when Nike owned the swingmen tackle twill goodstuff.

The Nike swingmen ran for $5 less retail than when Reebok messed up the style with their recent few years of making swingman jerseys @ $75 a pop with nasty ugly 2" NFL style droptails!

sure it's loyalty
but I'd much rather rock a Boykins or webber than a Cummings or Porter. Hell, I'd much rather wear a Cardinal or Marshall jersey than a najera jersey.

HOT X 1000!!!!
I have a Foyle and Dunleavy jersey. It shows that you're a die hard follower of the team (although I'm extra die hard cheering for them in the Ford Center in OKC), not someone who occasionally flips it on and likes Richardsons dunks. It also makes you unique, not like the 20,000 other people in the arena wearing Richardson/Davis jerseys.

And hey, if they see you, they probobly really appreciate you coming out to see them and wearing their jersey. Maybe they'll come up into the ctands, sign your jersey, give you 5,000 dollars, and become your new friend! Okay, maybe not, but I'd still love a smile and point from Adonal!

As for the thing from when they used to be on the team (I love Najera by the way, he played very well for OU, and is the only halfway successful player out of OU since like Tisdale).... Its for different situations. If the player is retired, or the jersey is out of date by 2-3 years, its throwback, and that's always stylin'. If the player was just traded (watch for people coming into the Arena with their Fisher jerseys) it can symbolize one of three things:

  1. You don't follow the team that well, and will be shocked when hes not announced.
  2. You really liked the player, didn't want him to be traded, etc etc etc.
  3. You can't afford another jersey, and either don't have your team T-Shirt or figure its better than that. Or your Tshirt could be in the wash, and theres 2 games in a row.
Now if the player was traded not too long ago, and the uniform is still in date or is only 1-2 years off, then its cool. It says, "Hey, I'm different." It also says, "Hey, I'm hardcore, I knew this player was on the team once." It could also say, "I really liked this guy." On the bad side, it could say, "Hey, I'm cheap and found this at the bottom of the bargain bin in some random store before the game."  Or, "My mom was clueless and bought it as a present because it was cheap, so now I have to wear it." Lastly, it could say, "Is Najera that skinny white looking dude?" It all depends on what people think, but overall....

HOT

early 90's... rambling...
Considering I wanted Mario Elie to take over Monty's job for the past year, I wanted his circa early 90's GSW jersey. Now, it looks doubtful that he'll even be returning as an assistant. Other good jerseys from back in the day are Tim Hardaway, Avery Johnson, and also Mitch Richmond, which I guess would make a statement since Nellie should have never traded him to Sac. Ya'll remember Sarunas Marciulonis? Chris Gatling?

And now for some reason, draft day mistakes come to mind...

T. Fuller > K. Bryant
J. Smith > K. Garnett
C. Webber > P. Hardaway
A. Jamison > V. Carter

Another thought. You know that bonus Nellie gets for making the playoffs? I think he should get another bonus if they shoot above 75% from the charity stripe for the season. BDiddy and JR both shot 67% FT last season. Guards gotta shoot better.

like old folks pissin'...
...it all depends! I think sportin' Najera is much different than say Marcioulonis (sp?) or say Boykins--both players that had a major impact on the team despite their short tenure with the Warriors. Najera, a solid pro, to me, seems like someone just didn't have enough money for what they really wanted...right? Warriors enthusiasts were most likely go for a Larry Smith jersey over a Carlos Rogers; Gatling over Luis Flores; Jespen (for comedic purposes) definitely over Lister; and so on and so on... The player has to be at least skilled or be known for something in Warriors lore... just my two cents.. oh, btw. Zorgon, GREAT break down... LMAO!

Najera
shows a lot more character and heart than a lot of the plyers in this game. If he had a big mans body, hed be reigning defensive player of the year, mos def.
