Rumor: Warriors Interested in Jason Kidd and Nets Like Troy Murphy

From Al Iannazzone of the North Jersey Media Group:

Kidd, on the other hand, is playing terrifically. But he'll be 34 in March and makes $59 million through the 2008-09 season. Still, you can't discount Dallas or Golden State being interested (Kidd is from the Bay Area). The Nets like Sparta's Troy Murphy, the Warriors big man.

Jason Kidd would no doubt be an interesting addition to this Warriors squad. JKidd would help sell some more tickets too. He fits very well into Nellie's style of play and would dramatically improve the Warriors effectiveness in half court sets. Kidd is sure-fire hall of famer who is still playing at a high level. He's the closest thing this league has to a player averaging a triple double (currently 13.3 ppg, 9.2apg, and 8.2 rpg). Take a look at his numbers and you'll notice a strange thing- he's arguably having his best season in 4 years. Jason would help this team in several areas where they are weak: rebounding, passing, ball handling, hoops IQ, and defense.

As far as the Nets being interested in TMurph, again I'll believe it when I see it. I'm sure there are plenty of teams that value Murphy and what he brings on the court (Warrior fans and Nellie probably severely underrate him), but not at that ridiculous price Mully and Higgy inked him to. If any GM wanted Troy Murphy on their team, they easily could have brought him over by now. The Warriors have been practically hanging him out to dry on the trade market for over a year. Troy is currently averaging 8.8 ppg and 6.0 rpg, which are career worsts aside from his rookie season. His value has never been lower on the trade market. Other teams are going to think- if this jump-shooting, perimeter-oriented big man couldn't work out for Nellie, how could he possibly work out for us?

Do you think Baron Davis and Jason Kidd could both play at a high level together? Do you think Troy Murphy will be a Warrior past the February 22nd trading deadline?

YES and YES
Jason Kidd and Baron would play better together then any guard combination the Warriors could throw out there right now. Only problem is, what else would Jersey want from us for Kidd, cause there is no way in hell the deal would be Troy Murphy for J Kidd straight up. Also, what kind of lineup would we be looking at in the next couple months, because you cant just bench J Rich or Ellis. Would Nellie even dare throw 4 guards and Beans out there? Kidd, Ellis, Baron, J Rich and Beans starting 5?

BUT...in reality, the Warriors arent so lucky to pull such a deal...so I say nobody is stupid enough to take on Troy Murphys big ol contract, unless we give up Ellis or Beans in the process. If Mullin could dump 2 of the big 3 contracts on somebody, he automatically wins GM of the Year.

murphy
will stay  a warrior. teams show interest but in reality no one wants his contract.

huh?
i don't understand this deal. Why would NJ give up their point guard for Troy Murphy? This would set them back even more. And what would be the point of Baron Davis and Jason Kidd? They play the same position! I dont get it. We don't need any more guards.

It sounds wayyy too good to be true
as its just rumormongering again, which is going to give Troy another grey hair to pull out, unless he's finally blocked out all of the trade rumors once and for all.

Jason Kidd is having personal problems off court lately and a change of scenery could do nothing but help things I'd think, but I wouldn't ever expect him in a Warriors uniform unless its for his swan song retirement year, alongside old man Gary Payton.

Kind of how Chris Mullin did.

Jason Kidd is a monster for stats and fantasy league numbers, rivaling the Double MVP of late Steve Nash. As versatile as they come, helping the team win in any way he can.

Again, if we can pull it off, by all means find out what Jersey wants and seriously consider it!

Iverson joining the Nuggets hasn't helped them win even half their games since they got him, but Jason Kidd is the definition of team player in today's league. Racking up records in assists earlier this year. (Although it takes both Payton and Kidd's numbers and a few thousand more to match Stockton!)

unstoppable...
don nelson always wants monta to run the point, and have baron use his strength in the post or run of screens for jumpers. if kidd comes, then we can use BOTH of them at the post, and who better to deliver the ball to baron off screens then jason kidd? plus monta wouldn't mind coming off the bench for JASON KIDD.

Ugh
Yeah, if we trade for him, prepare for

Jason Richardson in:

well....
i'm sure it won't happen but Jason Kidd is one of only 2 players (I won't say the other but his name starts with steve, ends with nash, and he's a 2 time mvp), that I would trade baron davis for.

ok maybe I'd trade for some other people but those are the only point guards....

NJ
has Marcus Williams, their rookie who they are very high on and plan to take over for kidd in the near future. If, by the deadline they feel like they want to rebuild, who knows? maybe they do deal Kidd for Murph, pietrus, diogu, etc, etc. and most assuredly a 1st rd. draft pick.

J-Kidd back in Oakland could work...
...and I can understand NJ's interest in Murphy. He's from NJ, and the Nets NEED a big-man, and Murph is a walking double-double.

Murph/Pietrus/POB/Zarko for J.Kidd works trade wise.

But I'm sure NJ would want Diogu as Biedrins/Ellis are untouchable.

hmmm
its not a bad fit but its not a good one or one that could change the team around.  The good thing is is that yes: he can do well in nellie ball, pass the ball around very well, and yes! REBOUND!  We need that rebounding and a new edition for our "defense" or whatever you want to call it.

J Kidd: Interesting but not what we need
Jason Kidd coming to the Bay Area?  It sounds intriguing, but it's a move that makes little sense.  Don't get me wrong.  I think if you put Kidd alongside Baron Davis, it makes for a very dynamic backcourt.  Those two would bring a very exciting brand of ball to the Bay Area, especially in the Nellie system.  I love Kidd's ability to rebound the ball, push the break, and find his teammates; but at the end of the day you are adding to an existing strength.  Kidd is a great player, but not the type of player that we need.

The most crucial position of need the Warriors have is at the 4 or 5.  They need a player who can play solid interior defense and can rebound.  By doing this, you can put more pressure on the perimeter knowing that there is an anchor for your second line of defense if an opposing offensive player should beat a Warrior perimeter player.

Having a good interior defender who can rebound the ball would enable the Warriors to play man instead of zone.  There is a time and place to play a zone defense, but you can't play zone 60% of the time like the Warriors have been doing.  It leaves too many open spots on the floor.  If you give an NBA player an open shot, he's more likely to hit it than miss it.  How many times have we seen teams like the Heat, Suns, or Lakers knock down wide open shots because of the holes in the zone?  Another problem with the zone is it's harder to rebound the ball.  In a zone, you're not blocking out a man, but you're blocking out an area.  Opposing players can just waltz into the lane untouched and crash the offensive glass.  How many times have we seen the Magic, Hornets, or Rockets outrebound us and get second chance points?

Our focus should be acquiring a 4 or 5 like Kevin Garnett or Jermaine O'Neal.  They would eliminate all of the aforementioned problems and as an added bonus, will give the Warriors a low post threat which will free up the perimeter because defenses will have to double on the block.  Pairing Garnett or O'Neal with Andris Biedrins would make for a potent 1-2 combination that would wreak havoc in the west.  Troy Murphy can't do any of these things; therefore, I would like to see him off of the team by the trading deadline.

As good as Kidd is at rebounding the ball, the Warriors would still have problems crashing the boards, and he obviously can't play the interior defense that we need.  Even if Kidd were on the team, how would that bode for guys like Monta Ellis, Kelenna Azubuke, and Jason Richardson when he comes back?  Who would we give up for Kidd?  To me, you raise more questions than answers if you bring Kidd to the Bay, and you would still have the same major problems that will prevent this team from winning.

He is the type of player we need
especially IF they are really interested in murphy.

not only for what he can do on the court, but with him here i think that we would have a better shot at attracting someone like KG, or Oneal in the offseason

The bottom-line on the Kidd trade is...
...does he make GS better or worse?

He does, and that's reason enough to make the trade. Additionally, the NETS are one of the only teams that has a interest in Troy Murphy. Unless the Warriors trade 1 of (Murphy/Dunleavy/Foyle) they won't acquire be in postion to acquire a 4 or 5.

The reality is that the Warriors have painted themselves into a corner, and J-Kidd can be a glorious way out.

If a trade would happen...
you could always trade Kidd for a better player as Kidd has waaaaaaaaaaay more value than Smurph.

so who do we get rid of?
If by the crazy chance we traded for kidd, who leaves? Because it seems very, very, very unlikely we would keep all 3 of our BoomRichMoney backcourt, while adding another all-star guard...
