Warriors to Sign Kelenna Azubuike

It's not official yet, but it looks like the Warriors will be bolstering their injured backcourt with NBDL superstar Kelenna Azubuike.

Kelenna plays D like he's 7 foot 7!

Nellie could hardly contain his excitement with Mullin's latest find:

"Mully called me on New Years' Eve and asked me if I liked sambuca, and I said 'Yeah,' " Nelson recalled. "And he went out there and signed this guy, Azubuike.

"I thought it was a drink and he was talking about a player."

Nellie might want to check out out Kelenna's info on Wikipedia. It's pretty interesting.

Did you watch Azubuike in college when he was at Kentucky? What areas can he help the Warriors?

Special thanks to loyal GSoM community member CoachBarry for keeping everyone updated with the latest with a diary.

UPDATE: It's official. Check out the Warriors' press release and say hello to #7!

not much kentucky hoops...
i'm a PAC 10 guy...but i did see him play the W's summer league team and was REALLY impressed. Obviously it was against the "other warriors" aka the summer league team. But, the guy destroyed them...taking it to the rim...hitting from the perimeter...pretty much doing it all. This could be something to watch for sure.

Let's Go Oakland! Gas, Brake, Dip.

What's his game?
How big is this guy? What position does he play? Why was he available?

Azooobooooky
well, from what i remember of the summer league game. He has a very solid build for a guard (think corey maggette...not that big, but pretty similar). Actually similar game to mags...drives...explosive leaper...can hit a jumper if open. Has the body type to be a good defender, not sure if he is, but he has the strength to be one. He will play 2-3 on the W's. But i would think mostly 2 with Jrich out.
I think he was available because he was stuck in a #'s game with Houston this year..he was good in summer league but they probably had too many gauranteed contracts. He is the leading scorer in the NBDL and was All NBDL last year.

Let's Go Oakland! Gas, Brake, Dip.

From the article there at the top:
6-foot-5, 220-pound guard

A JRich temporary replacement in terms of size I'd say. Corey Magette comparison also good.

Available since he's in the D-League tearing it up with:
26.2 points
51% field
49% from 3
5.1 rebounds
3.2 assists

Although that was D-LEague play, if he's hot he's hot and it could translate into the same deal on a NBA floor afterhe gets acclimated to the system- then gets his number called for shots.

we need this....
this is exactly what we need. with zarko cabarkapa not playing, we need a cool name. all the good teams have it! I mean there's san antonio with manu ginobli...dallas with dirk nowitzki....clevelend with zydrunas ilgauskas.....Miami with Udonis Haslem...denver with yakhouba diawara, we are officially elite....watch out leandro barbosa and the phoenix suns, here comes Kelenna Azubuike and the Golden State Warriors!!! Man, just wait until zarko's healthy, we'll be unstoppable!

I can hear Jim Barnett's voice now..."Kelenna Azubuike passes to Zarko Cabarkapa..."

His name is burned into my brain
I don't even remember his game at Kentucky, but I do remember Dick Vitale's voice: "Azzobookey is the real deal bayybeee!" Damn you Dickie V, damn you...

Mm
Ikechukwu Somtochukwu Diogu passes to Zarko Cabarkapa, who dishes it off to Kelenna Azubuike for the jam!

I like the sound of it.

But of course
Fitz would just call Diogu Ike. Oh well, it's still a great name.

he's shooting
51% percent from the field so maybe he can knock down a few shots for us and stretch the d
