"We Believe" Tribute by Tony.psd (Sign design concept 1)

The sweet taste of victory.
(Illustrated by Tony.psd exclusively for GSoM!)

So many things went down during the NBA 2007 playoffs for the Dubz that I don't even know where to begin. Highlight after highlight, the Bay Area came together and showed the world that "We Believed." (Thanks to that awesome guy Paul Wong who started throwing up his We Believe Playoff signs!) One of my absolute favorite moments during the playoffs was after the Dubz defeated Dallas in our home to end the series (see Game 6 Recap | Post Game Links). Various GSW players came out and celebrated with the crowd and this picture came up of Monta, Al and J-Rich sporting the "We Believe" shirts we came to love. This moment was very special to many of us because it was a victory well deserved. Just being a part of that celebration and win meant a lot to all of us and opened the doors to a new era in GSW Basketball.

I took the time to recapture one of GSW's finest hours (with more to come of course!). It's not a spectacular dunk or acrobatic pose, but it's an illustration of happiness, success and pride. I could look at over and over again. It's some thing I've really been wanting to do. A picture can tell a bunch of different stories. For me this tells the tale of an 8th seed stomping over a 1st seed. Prior to the October 30th opening game vs. Utah aka GSoM Night II, as usual I will be constructing a number of sign designs for my wife and I to represent all over the Roaracle Arena. This is one of those signs I want rep opening night... as a preview of more things to come!

Coming soon... a segment on making your own dope GSW signs
so we can all represent (the poor man's way!) all season long starting with GSoM Night opening night!

Cool! But...
Do you think it's a good idea to still be including JRich in current Warrior designs?

by ssmokinjoe on Oct 10, 2007 6:17 PM PDT reply actions

HELL YEAH!
At least for opening night... ! I'm just payin' tribute to the man and the moment... I gotta lotta ideas up my sleeve and this is somethin' I wanted to do out in the open and share. I think the only other time I'll draw him is when Charlotte comes to town and I wont disrespect him... I'll make it like a Dub player vs. j-rich type sign ... and thats Word!

JRich: 17 points, 2 assists
At least you got the rebounds right. Nice game overall: 28 minutes, 7-10 floor, no turnovers.

Why are we talking about this again? ;-P

lol- whatevaman
I think this'll be the same heat i'll get if I rock this sign at Oracle... no matter- J-Rich has done loads for us throughout the years and If I need to I'll let em' know why I put him up on the sign- It's all love. I already know the BWJ's are gonna talk smack. Oh well, you can't please everyone!

hey man
j-rich will always be a warrior and he deserves his respect not only for helping the team get to the playoffs and past the first round, but for all he did in the years before. anyone who doesn't get that is crazy

Hotness!
Man I'll never forget the 2007 spring- just getting the 8th spot was a dream. Knocking out the Mavs was simply amazing.

Thanks for the hot pics to remember the good times Tony!

Hey Tony
Great work, as always. The photo of the actual We Still Believe sign under construction made me smile.

Quick question: You're using the pen tool when you make your designs, right? I'm taking first year Graphic Arts and we recently finished an intro to using the pen tool.

Nope
He's using the We Believe tool in Photoshop. (Hahaha, sorry bad joke)

Seriously though, it's cool folks are trading design tips on GSoM.

Adobe Illustrators Pen Tool is my best friend...
Yea man, check it out and use it well. It takes a lotta practice and a handful of tricks to appreciate vector art. I'm old school too, I own CS3 but still roll with Illustrator 10. I love overlapping solid shapes, and using solid colors and shadows over gradients and filters. Peeps these days got it made- you can get a photoshop image thats pixelated and convert that stuff to vector and have it to half the work. Everything you see here on a regular basis is drawn with my hand, my mouse and Illus's pen tool function... and if you had my original files I'd show you the preview mode that breaks everything down like a wire frame. Fun stuff! One of these days, I'd like to be a teacher and teach all this, and thats my word- teach it the right way!

I gotta Halloween special and the Lil' Dubz collection 2 comin' within the next few weeks! (check out my myspace page for all my work too! Just google "Tony.psd!") as for the tribute... it's suppose to make u feel good lol!

Thanks!
Yeah, we've been learning simple stuff compared to what you're describing ;P. Converting it into a selection, stroking, filling with colors, gradients, and patterns, etc. We're using CS3 in class, and I'm still in semi-awe of how much you can do to a picture.

Pen Tool
For me the pen tool was kind of counter-intuitive at first but after a few hours with it you really start to see what it could do. If you find it a little tricky, like I did, I definitely recomend sticking with it until the concept "clicks". Although if your taking a class right now you probably have to stick with it. lol.
