Troy Hudson - WTF

1 down 81 more. Their were a lot of things i noticed from this game, but the one thing that stood out - Troy Hudson. And no he didnt stand out in a good way. He was 1 of 7 with two turnovers. He didn't look good or comfortable out there. Kelenna Azubuike had a nice game, scoring 11 points, but I still dont think the Dubs can fill JRichs shoes until Belinellie gets more playing time. I know its only one game but he has to play better.

Star-divide

Also, anybody that went to the game, how was it?

Poll
Should Brandan Wright go to the D-League?
  • Hells yes
  • Hells no
  • Maybe, we need to see him play first
  • Shouldn't have traded for him in the first place
  • Troy Hudson sucks

Your right, 1st game of season
T-Hud rough night, no doubt. Remember, the Jazz played for the Western Conf Championship LY, they are a good team.  They may play for it again TY.   Against us, of course!  Dear Stephen Jackson, We miss ya!

ahhhh.................
troy hudson suckzzz... but atleast he scored a basket.. cant say the same thing about barnes... wtf.. we need better rebounders... can pob be it for us this year?? haha

Troy Hudson
Kind of reminds me of Monta Ellis.. without the explosiveness.  He's quick, but pointlessly quick.  He can create a jumpshot, but he can't knock it down.  He also has a shoot first mentality.

The turning point in the game for me was when THud came in during the second quarter and played point, with Baron playing off-guard.  Our offense came to a grinding hault and never picked up again for the rest of the game.

by jlagace on Oct 30, 2007 10:38 PM PDT   0 recs

How do we slow down Boozer?
Boozer is a Warrior Killer.  We need to find the solution there.  I guess since we left Brewer for cheap buckets, the help defense was coming off of him.  Do we help, like we did in the playoffs, from the Gurards?

by Baron the Messiah on Oct 30, 2007 10:45 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

er...
they're probably not going to be slowing down either boozer or deron, but they can't let guys like brewer (18 pts, 4 stl), millsap (16 pts, 10 reb), or kirilenko (8 asst, 5 offensive rebs) produce on offense.

by the evil monkey on Oct 30, 2007 11:33 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Yea
everyone needs to chill out and someone needs to inform the refs that Biedrins is not a rookie and doesn't deserve to keep getting jacked on those bullshit calls.

Too bad about some of the play tonight, but its hard to expect a good outcome when we can't hit any shots.  I have to agree with Bob and Jim when they said this is one of the worst possible matchup for the warriors besides the Spurs.

It sucks about Belinelli not getting any PT... then goes in and hits 2 in a row.  Meh, look to the next game, hopefully get a win against the clips.

they had bigger problems
tonight than TH

Why even focus on that

by Zig on Oct 30, 2007 10:57 PM PDT   0 recs

Since there was a laundry list of problems
Its best to start with the easiest one to solve.  Like keeping THUD off the court is WAYY easier than trying to find a way to stop Carlos "35pts/14rb" Boozer.
THIS IS OOOAKLAND!!!

by Tim N Chris Burger on Oct 30, 2007 11:13 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

um...
b/c outside of the turnovers, as a warriors fan, you're just going to have to deal w/ the other problems.

to the point, hudson seemed to be the source of every warrior run killing play, ill-advised jumpers, not getting pietrus the ball, and that turnover that resulted in the brewer dunk just seemed to take the wind out of the team's sail, so to speak.

maybe you didn't notice, but the offense was horrible when he was in the game and atrocious when he was running it, like last year's monta w/o the slash/finishing ability and steals on defense.

so he's basically useless if his jumper isn't falling. hopefully, he was just pressing, b/c he looked like he didn't belong.

Our first official "frustration" game. Oh well, seeing Belinelli hit those two 3's in a row made me wish that Nellie played him more earlier. I don't think we could get much worse though, our bench could have been more productive and we would have stuck close if Biedrins didn't get into foul trouble. It was just a bad shooting night from three's down to free throws.

Stephen Jackson we need you!

by Five Ten Entertainment on Oct 30, 2007 11:20 PM PDT   0 recs

I was at the game ...
and Hudson is garbage. I literally wanted to jump out of my seat ... onto the court ... snatch the ball away from him ... and yes slap him!

by YaoButtaMing on Oct 30, 2007 11:34 PM PDT   0 recs

I agree
My friend Jesse and I were sitting in the upper deck but were seriously considering running downstairs to the floor and taking Hudson down.  Please stop shooting with no pass at all in the trip down the floor.  Just let something materialize then take a shot with a defender on you if the shot clock winds down.

solution:
Baron/Azubuike need to be the backcourt for size.
Ellis to backup PG w/ Belinelli, Hudson to emergency duty only.

Harrington starting at PF, none of this Pietrus as PF nonsense. Maximum size in the frontcourt while still retaining mobility. Pietrus to SF.

Nelson needs to use POB and Croshere- u added bigs for a reason...to avoid using this "sf as pf" nonsense.

the good news is that at least the lakers and blazers lost too.

by the evil monkey on Oct 30, 2007 11:53 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

AMEN!
My one knock on Nelly has always been his lack of faith in questionable bigs as opposed to his faith in questionable smalls.  If croshere's or POB's minutes were flip-flopped with THUD's, we would have probably lost by 10 instead of 20.

also
this is especially true since thud (pronounced dud?) is no better at the point position than monta is. and at least monta has a chance at getting better at it.

by the evil monkey on Oct 31, 2007 12:09 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

I think this was a good idea
but was implemented on the wrong team. This could work on other teams. The biggest reason why it didn't work is mainly because of one guy, Andrei Kirilenko. He's quick enough to run around with everybody on the floor. He covered for the guys that got beat. He also added to our rebounding woes as a 6'9 SF when we out to go small. But some key points, Okur had trouble, Boozer also ran into some foul trouble. Pietrus played one of his better games. Our problem really started when the benchies got in. The offense slowed down and became a 1-on-1 game. In addition, our 3 ball, probably our X-factor, just didn't go in tonight. I'm not against trying this tactic again with some tweaking.

by lightz0ut on Oct 31, 2007 12:16 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

weird how it works,
but okur getting in foul trouble really hurt the dubs, b/c he was pretty bad tonight and his replacement, millsap, killed us.

the dubs really need to look for the guy AK leaves instead of trying to continually finish over him (mostly kelenna tonight) - if "guy AK is guarding" hits some open 3's, he'll either have to stay at home or "guy AK is guarding" gets open 3's all night.

hopefully, our "team when baron is not in" will be a lot better once jax gets back.

by the evil monkey on Oct 31, 2007 12:28 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

true
Millsap, like Kirilenko, is a big disadvantage for us because he's mobile and athletic. We can't simply use our quickness against him as he can keep up with most players.

by lightz0ut on Oct 31, 2007 1:28 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

I thought
an underrated factor which killed us, was Brewer.  Our small guys were so intent on boxing off their big guys, that Brewer just ran wild without the ball, getting countless lay-ups.  His athleticism also negated a lot of ours.  He definitely makes the Jazz a better team.

It's almost like the Warriors have 6 guys out there... they always have a guy open! - Jon Barry commentating game 3 last year

by gsw4life on Oct 31, 2007 9:24 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Thud not the only one
Hudson's shortcomings are obvious. But wtf happened to Barnes tonight? He was just as awful. Nellie should have slid peitrus to the 3 and started Harrington at the 4. Bring Ellis off the bench to give buike and Davis a breather and leave Hudson on the bench. Ellis didn't seem ready for prime time yet. Too many mental mistakes to go with his production. He also forces shots and needs to set up a couple of feet inside the 3 pt line. Nellie also needs to find some minutes for our true bigs. We can't get killed on the glass like that. But again, only game 1. Hopefully we don't make Kaman look like an elite center.

by tangel29 on Oct 31, 2007 2:39 AM PDT   0 recs

I Suggest
nelly gives Thud's minutes to a big.  At least they'd do a better job of running the offense.

won't keep playing someone that doesn't help the team... if we didn't have Nellie as coach I'd be alot more worried right now

It's almost as if you were all dumb enough to expect him to provide something.

The acquisition was laughable. Your reaction to his play is laughable.

barnes
Complain about the 8th man?  Seriously?  I have a much bigger problem w/Kaz and his inability to create his own shot.  Of course one game does not a season make.

lol this loss is tearing this family apart!!!!!

by GameSix on Oct 31, 2007 12:33 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

the fact that AK47 was guarding him
didn't really worked in his favor. Monta and others already had trouble with him just helping from the weakside, much more when you are his defensive assignment.

Also, he could've had a better game if only our players were able to see where he is on the floor as they are driving to the basket. Since AK47 is flying across the rim more often than not, Buike would have had a couple of open catch-and-shoot.

by lightz0ut on Oct 31, 2007 12:46 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

we don't want our third string pg
to come in and throw the ball at the rim every time he touches it.  Barnes sucked as well.

idk what mullin did with this team but it really seems like we have Baron and a bunch of mediocre players who are supposed to be better at running and gunning but don't do it.

Monta did look pretty good tho.

Pietrus did well which is funny because so many people loved barnes and hated pietrus over the offseason.  I always that that barnes was over rated and that pietrus is probably the most athletic player on our team right now.

by Proof on Oct 31, 2007 2:42 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Horrible
Troy Hudson is so predictable he just looks like a gunner.  The minute he stepped out on the floor I told my buddy "its going up" and sure enough it did.  He never even made a move to create for someone else; it was go left of the pick and shoot the J from the elbow; luckily he made one with 4 mins left in the game otherwise it was 0-6.
Nothing better than "The City".

by philsmith75 on Oct 31, 2007 10:16 AM PDT   0 recs

His timing sucked, too
Everytime the dubs were trying to rally... dah-dah-dah dah dah-dah! THUD to the Jazz's rescue.  If sucky players were physical injuries, he would be a self inflicted wrist wound.

i pray that hudson does not play more than 2 minutes next game. belinelli played ok, i'd like to see him get more minutes. croshere also played well so i think hudsons minutes should be split between those 2

LOL
ouch.  I hope that they let some of the rookies play next game.  I agree with your above about keeping Ellis at the backup point position, but Belinelli as a last resort at PG?  Although he may be capable, his mindset isn't as a point.  Maybe if Ellis and Hudson would have passed him the ball more at the end of the game, he might have been able to make the score less laughable.

by david240z on Oct 31, 2007 11:36 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

I noticed the trend of their bigs...
Boozer a bunch and Milsap was the other main offender. But all they would do is barrel down the lane without the ball, jump from the free throw line and LAND in the paint. And while they were in the air whoever the wing was would kick them the ball so they would catch the ball and land deep in our box. And be in perfect postition time after time.(haha deep in our box)It seemed so elementary but we couldnt stop it at all....

by STIX on Oct 31, 2007 11:37 AM PDT   0 recs

thats the jazz
Superior execution goes a long way:
  • their bigs move without the ball
  • their bigs are...well...big
  • our boys were LAZY and SOFT on defense
If you want to stop those cuts, you can't do it by slapping at the ball after they caught it. U need to put a body on the cutter and deny them a clean lane to where they want to go. Impede their path, knock a fool on their butt if you have to. We conceded the painted area and therefore got creamed.

Those cuts were also why they got great rebounding position.

Blocking out starts before a shot is even taken. Defensive effort starts away from the ball.

hudson
yea i wish we got a pass first pg as the backup to baron.  someone like brevin knight, even though he is injury prone.  but hey isn't hudson injury prone too?  oh well, like someone said, just one game...

there were many times hudson could have passed the ball.  it looked like he was a ball hog out there.

i remember one play, he turned the ball over.  he wanted to make it up to the fans so bad, that on the next play, he drove wild, and threw up a jumper.  it went in and out, and that only made the crowd more pissed at him. lol

by thewarriorsrule on Oct 31, 2007 12:43 PM PDT   0 recs

Yep
I remember, I was freakin one of those fans!!!!  But to give THUD some credit IDK if that last second shot in the preseason was a fluke but that's the type of killer instinct I was hoping he woulda had last night.  Yesterday is one game. Coma has a point, you gotta measure his preformance in the with more then just one game.

Rule change/adjustment that will hurt
tv commentators were hailing a rule change discouraging players from trying to take charges - which was a way for us to get stops last year that now is taken away. ... without shot blocking nor size we are going to struggle against everyone inside - not news exactly, but going to get worse instead of better ...

by hardcore on Oct 31, 2007 3:39 PM PDT   0 recs

charges

charges
Yeah, there were also alot of borderline blocking fouls that we might've gotten as charges last year.  Plus Baron's silly flop on Okur and Ellis' no-call against Deron, which resulted in an embarassing open three-pointer drained.

by jlagace on Oct 31, 2007 4:18 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

I agree
T Hud needs to be the 12th man.

My starting 5: Diddy, Buike, S Jack, Al, AB

2nd string: Monta, Italy, MP2, Barnsee, B Wright/POB

Locker room: Brouchere and Thud

It is always good when the bench team can potentially beat the 1st string, then you are

UNSTOPPABLE BABY

Put a little mustard on it

by The Barnes Supremacy on Oct 31, 2007 4:17 PM PDT   0 recs

Yes THud sucks
But there's no reason to get worried.  When SJax comes back, and when Nellie feels more comfortable playing Belinelli more minutes, we can rest assure THud will not see as many minutes as he did.

Now as to why THud is taking up a roster space in the first place?  That's a head scratcher..
