Around SBN: BTB's Final Preseason NCAA Hoops Bracket

OPEN THREAD: Game 6 - Warriors vs Pistons

Warriors (W-L): 0-5

Pistons (W-L): 5-2

Time: 7:30pm PST

TV: FSN Bay Area PLUS

Radio: KNBR 680

This is where win #1 will come from. No doubt about it. Considering that we OWN Detroit, this one is in the bag. Check it out, in the 2 games last year, the Warriors won 111-79 in early November and then won again 111-93 in Detroit. Add in that Detroit is on the 2nd game of a back to back after getting beat by Portland last night and we have a recipe for success. This will be win #1 for the Dubs.

Even without Stack Jack in the lineup, this Warriors team can uptempo the Pistons to death. The Warriors have been playing much better after two close losses against the Cavs and Mavs. It's time they close one of these out. I couldn't explain why the Warriors blew out the Pistons twice last year, and I won't be able to explain why the Warriors blow them out twice this year.

But Detroit isn't 5-2 for nothing. The Warriors will have a tough time on the boards with Sheed, Jason Maxiell, and Tayshaun Prince. Add in Chauncey Billups with Rip Hamilton and you have a solid veteran squad that knows how to win.

If you're going to the game, you'll see Tony there reppin GSOM in the lower bowl, section 109, row 27. He's going to have 2 more amazing signs. One is a tribute to the GTOe crew and the other is a collabo with the good folks from the Detroit Pistons blog, Need for Sheed. Tony might even get on the jumbotron! Be sure to check out Tony's work at the game and also make sure to drop by Need for Sheed to get some good 'ol Pistons coverage.

Predictions:

  • Warriors win by 6
  • Tony.psd's signs get on tv
  • Biedrins records a double-double
  • Rasheed goes bananas
  • Baron wins the PG battle

Post your predictions before the game and your comments during the game in this open thread.

Warriors by 1
  • Rasheed gets a double-double before getting ejected for arguing with the refs with 20 seconds left in the game
  • Barnes knocks down 3 treys
  • Antonio McDyess gets 14-8
  • BD drops 20 points and dishes out 12 assists
  • Tony.psd gets even more applause from the audience than my dancing uncle on the jumbotron (seriously why isn't this on YouTube?!)
  • The Warriors make me look foolish for doubting them as they blow out the Pistons and begin a 5 game winning streak

oddly
We pwned the Pistons twice last year; once pre-trade with the MurphLeavy combo, another time in Baron's return that sparked a 16-5 finish. This is largely the same team, maybe marginally bigger roles for Jason Maxiel and Amir Johnson, but that's it. The Pistons' offense is a jumpshooting system. They run Hamilton off-ball through 2, 3, even 4 screens to free him for an open J or an easy slash to the buckett, they run a buncha pick and pop plays for 'Sheed and McDyess. That means we won't have to worry about a dominating guy like TD or Boozer destroying us on the block, but they are veterans that go 5 deep on offense and space the floor well. It's gonna be team defense, as usual, to switch and cover all the shooters. I'd attack whoever Mcdyess is guarding in the post, given his injury troubles and age, but 'Sheed's help defense worries me. He's still mobile and uses his length effectively. In an uptempo game we will win (...duh?). Hopefully 'Sheed decides to trade J's with Harrington, which means their offense will be too perimeter happy.

Questions? Complaints?

Our bad
It's actually on FSN+ tonight.

I think FSN regular will cut to the Warriors game after the Sharks game is over.

Also I keep seeing the plugs for Comcast On Demand for that day's Warrior game, but I've never tried it. Anyone have any luck with that?

I'm
pretty sure they'll cut to the Dubs game after the shaks game. Hopefully hockey ends earyl so the Dubs get more regular FSN air time

man it really really sucks
that Detroit lost last night...
It's almost like the Warriors have 6 guys out there... they always have a guy open! - Jon Barry commentating game 3 last year

by gsw4life on Nov 14, 2007 12:46 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

all in fun...
Baron and Azubuike drop 20+, 4+ assists/rebounds a piece;

Barnes and Monta stink it up again prompting more trade debate and 'you suck' diaries;

Bedrins a nice double-double and surprising 5-of-6 from the free throw stripe;

But Warriors start 4th qtr playing catchup and lose to Rip and Chauncey free throws for a 7 point DET advantage end result

4+ Assists for Kelenna
Actually I'm a little disappointed in Kaz's passing this year thus far, but of course I'm very pleased with his game overall. I thought he could pass but he hasn't really shown that ability so far.

Opponent - Assists
Mavs - 4
Cavs-  1
Jazz - 0
Clips - 2
Jazz - 0

He's averaging 34:47 minutes a game which is plenty for a swingman to net more than 1.4 per game.

I hope everyone plays well
But if Ellis or any players aren't playing well, I really really really want them to not keep them in.  We got some bench players and I want them to let players like Belinelli get some actual playing time and even Stephane Lasme, POB, and Brandan Wright.  But it probably won't happen, but I'll always be standing by to see Don Nelson make changes when a player isn't obviously helping the team out.

UPDATE ON THE PISTONS
Just to let you guys know...
It´s true that Billups and McDyess are questionable for tonight´s game (the article was on the pistons official web site) and also... have you guys heard of a "Done Deal" between the Pistons and the Lakers tonight (3:45 PM PT)? The trade would have send Prince, RIP, Amir Johnson and a 1st round draft choice to the Lakers for Kobe. But Kobe vetoed the trade. Let´s see how the pistons players react to this, maybe they will be "sad" LOL and lose this one!!
Go WARRIORS

what is Kobe thinkin. Billups/Kobe/Sheed is pretty darn good, and we all know how bench players miraculously sprout out of no where to play with the stars (See: Celtics, Boston).

Totally agree
I think he´s crazy... What´s he thinking?
I think he wants the Lakers to accept an offer like Sean Marks, Marcus Banks and a 2nd round pick for him... He doesnt want a trade that involves him and another star... Tottaly out of mind!

Warriors by 1 but I actually mean a 1pt win.
Not Atma code "Warriors by 1".

I predict they should have won by more but they keep trying to give the game away and fall backwards into a 1 point win. Of course I may be delusional because . . .

I actually bought digital cable just for the FSN+ games so I'm keeping a separate W & L record for them on FSN+. If they finish below .500 on + I'm canceling it.

the rotation
This is the rotation I like to see.

Baron/Azubuike/Barnes/Al/Biedrins

POB off the bench, then Wright, then Ellis.

When Jack comes back we should be 9 deep with Belinelli, Cro, and Pietrus on the fringe in case of injury.

Once the kids get up the snuff, our depth will be on display.

Great job on defense tonight. Wasn't too happy with our zone, but generally we were active. Since we escaped without Biedrins getting his 3rd foul, we should be able to go back to man.

I was surprised Nellie went with the Wright/P.O.B combo. I thought Wright coming in meant Andris had to come in for P.O.B.. Remember Nellie said he would not play Wright and Andris together. Also remember that Nelson lies a lot.

we suck.  no nice way of saying it.  0-6, the only winless team in the NBA.  Stack ain't the all mighty savior either.  here we go again, lottery here we come.  we ain't goin anywhere till we find a solution for the wallace's and duncan's and boozer's of the nba.  i love nellie and his style of play but 10 small forwards is not gonna cut it. i don't know how i can keep myself up until 1 on the east coast anymore watching these games if second halves like that are going to be the norm.   just frustrated...

I'm sick about hearing about
potential or "if we had our free throws" or "if". No more IFs, if we can't close out games then we don't deserve to win period and we sure as hell aren't the "better team".
No more crap, win a damn game.

I love
how once it's clear that we've blown the game the announcers start talking about how great the opposing team is.....as if that's going to console us.

we suck
Looks like we're the doormats and punching bags of the NBA again.  Jack is not the answer to this team's problems.  Can you imagine if Baron had to miss a game or two or more?  I feel like breaking something.
I pray i never have to use a gun again.

We're not this bad
Obviously we're better than 0-6, that's just bad luck at this point. But hopefully everyone who drank the kool-aid this offseason enjoys their humble pie. Hopefully Cohan buys his family some expensive Christmas presents with his extra cash this year.

That's...
...the absolute worst thing about Bob Fitzgerald. He thinks it somehow makes the situation better to talk up our opposition.

Similarly, a note to the radio side, I DON'T WANT TO HEAR a post game interview with Jason Maxiell! He plays for THE OTHER TEAM, dammit.

Ugh.

lkjh
they'll win when they actually get around to playing some defense and not letting teams shoot over 50% and pick up close to 30 assists a game against them.

F**ck the future
i guess that were feeling the rumble of J-Rich trade for that pick, We need other leader on the floor, now i know i miss J-Rich cuz of this, Why thinking of the future? Do 14 years wasnt enough? We think in the future with Spree and C-Webb......and then? Mookie?Adam keefe?Bimbo? J-Caffey?Duane FErrell?Todd Fuller? Spoon? Marshall? Sam Mack? del negro? Bill Curley? Deklerq? Wow what a brilliant future we have in the 90's.......now what? just baron? when were gonna sign an all star free agent like phoenix did with hill or orlando with lewis? Wheres the money we earn with those trades of those stupid contracts of leavy, murphy, j-rich and foyle? only time will tell..........yeah right, 0-6........makes me puke!

0-6
I'm still not tooo concerned. I'll start getting concerned once we get Jack back and we're STILL losing games. Yeah, yeah. I know Jack isn't the almighty savior, and isn't the answer to all our answers, but we lose alot when he's not on the floor. Sure he's a streaky shooter, and will occasionaly dribble the ball off his leg. But he can run the floor, distribute the rock, is a leader, and PLAYS WITH EMOTION. No one is playing with fire in their eeyes right now, not even Baron. Also, not to mention his above average D and free throw shooting. Again, I'm not saying he'll answer all our problems, or we'll go on a 10 game winning streak when he gets back, but he will help alot.

Whoa there...
Jason Richardson is having a somewhat disappointing start to his season. If you want to suggest that Richardson still being with the team would then force Monta to the bench and give us a backcourt of Baron/Richardson/Azubuike, fair enough, but you couldn't justify Richardson starting over Azubuike right know, he's simply isn't playing as well. It might help out for the seven games until we have our true small forward back, but you can't build you team around a seven game hazard window.

I can understand being annoyed about sacrificing present for future, but in addition to the Richardson trade (shedding over ten million to pick up a stud rookie forward and bringing in a more talented all around guard) not being the best example of mortgaging the present, your examples of Webber and Sprewell don't really jive either. Webber was sent packing cause he hated Don Nelson, and I guess obstensibly our franchise. Even when viewed as a mistake, it wasn't a mistake that was made to try and build for the future, the move for the future would've been to can Nelson immediately and keep Webber.

As for Sprewell... you can't have that happen and keep the player and coach, and you can't stand the credability hit if you get rid of the coach.

Now
I can finally see why Webber hated Nellie. Sometimes, Nellie's just too damn stubborn and unreasonable.

I don't know...
...how much blame I'd put on Nelson. They even mentioned on the broadcast that he was screaming for some dive cuts, but the Warriors weren't cutting.

View from London
I live in the UK and I fell asleep at about 9PM last night without meaning to; waking up at 3.30AM (7.30PM PST) in time to tune in to the game on Audio League Pass. I listened to all of it, supporting the team but we squandered a 22 point lead and lost again to go 0-6. I was in despair at 6AM this morning as we had lost again and I only had 1 more hour sleep before having to get up on a weekday morning and leave.
