Kosta Perovic Will Be Jammin'
Well we all knew it was just a matter a time before this happened [Inside Bay Area]:
The Warriors front office seems to be big fans of paying players millions of dollars to play in the DLeague. I'm not. Kosta has yet to play a single minute this season and he didn't exactly set the world on fire in the preseason. The Kosta signing was really curious coupled with the plethora of projects on this roster, namely Patrick O'Bryant, Marco Belinelli, Brandan Wright, and even Andris Biedrins and Monta Ellis to a degree.

Kosta in the zero threat position.
Saddling this roster up with so many players who just aren't ready to compete at this level for big minutes is just making Nellie's life more difficult. After all that he's accomplished in his illustrious NBA coaching career do you really think Nellie has the patience to tutor and develop so many projects who arguably aren't future superstars?
How much if any do you think Kosta will contribute to the Warriors this year?

He's likely our most consistent player and hes putting up $11 million numbers EASY.

Read carefully
They're still players that Nellie and coaching staff are developing. Their games aren't mature, but that doesn't mean that they can/ are helping out big this season.
And your 11 million figure is more than the Clips are paying Kaman and the Hornets are paying Chandler.

Contracts
Kaman was signed before hitting RFA; Biedrins will be signed after his 4th year.
During the past 4 years, one could make a case that he did more than Kaman did before signing his deal.
In the end, the $10-11M mark is probably what's fair in light of what Jefferson got, which pushed the market price down a bit.
At this point, there probably aren't too many people that would complain about $11M for Biedrins, and I can't see too many teams turning down the chance to get Biedrins at that price.

I think I undervalued him myself
I'm starting to think he may have some suitors this off season.

We'll def see
For example people hailed the JRich trade as a way to help make sure the Warriors could keep both Biedrins and Monta. 2 weeks ago I wasn't all that excited about paying Biedrins big money and I doubt many want to extend Monta right now with a lucrative long term deal. I'd rather have JRich than Monta right now.
We'll definitely see. The good news is we're probably months away from having to deal with these tough questions.

BTW, "zero threat position" has got to be the funniest thing I've read here in quite a while.

diversified investment
all that said, i respect the question about how many guys we want on our NBA squad who aren't game-ready. as of now, i'm pretty excited about the guys we have.

KOSTA-WAY
I say "WHO CARES?" as long as we're getting production from BEANS and POB and even CROSHERE at the 5 spot. The only thing that kinda sucks is throwing those millions at him to be a D-LEAGUER!

Andris as a project?
Because Oakland (Oakland), is just like Compton (Compton).

Andris W A S a project
now AB's developed, and earned a nice raise - but he was absolutely a project when drafted
POB went from DLeague to backup C (for the time being) and may be a decent bargaining chip at midseason. If Kosta becomes that in a year then it wasn't a bad move.
we are still a trade away from playoffs imo
in Nelson we trust - do we have a choice?

Definition of a Project
His game still needs a lot of work and he needs to get stronger. Even his biggest fans will tell you that he's still improving, learning how to play, and hasn't reached his ceiling- which in my eyes makes him a work in progress/ project. I don't consider guys like Stephen Jackson and Baron Davis projects because they're at or near their ceiling as established players. Biedrins and Monta still have a ways to go to reaching their potential. Doesn't mean that as young, developing players they can't help the Warriors win now.
POB has played 1 good game as a backup Center so I'm really hesitant to say he's a reliable guy off the bench or that he's NBA ready.
And I agree this current roster isn't going make the playoffs. Hope they prove me wrong.

The zero threat position
by Jeremy Belvins on Nov 19, 2007 11:43 PM PST 0 recs
Taking the Hints
- POB's (relatively) cheap team option was declined for next season
- Kosta signed to $1.8/yr for 3 years
- we sign another center, DJ Mbenga, in another confusing move
- I think POB will be involved in a trade package this season. If he was intended to be our backup C of the future, we would've picked up his option to keep him for cheap.
- Kosta Perovic is the best kept secret in the NBA. Why else would we spend so much money on him??
- DJ Mbenga: our insurance policy in case our "best kept secret" really is what we think he is.
