Chris Mullin Laughs at New York Post Rumor

Earlier this week we linked to an article from the New York Post claiming that Warriors front office man Chris Mullin was expected to be a top candidate to replace Isiah Thomas the Knicks GM. Mullin like many others thought the piece was pretty entertaining [SFGate]:

Vice president Chris Mullin dismissed a New York Post story that had him in line for the Knicks GM job. "The Bible?" Mullin said of the tabloid. "I did get a good laugh."

Gotta love those New York tabloids!

Mullin never forgets his folks.

What else would he say?
Sure, Mullin loves it here.  He was given a year as a special assistant and vaulted into the GM position.  He proved to be a disaster at the onset, but damn, that all changed with the BDiddy trade and the hiring of Nellie.  Mullie's street smarts allowed him to take a gamble on Baron.  What we fans and the organization got was more than we could have imagined.  The Nellie Era Redux turned out to be the critical move that ended the curse.  While Muss pissed his career away on a Sac streetside sobriety test, Mullin again proved his mettle by making the correct bold moves for the organization.  However, we're talking about the NY Knicks.  It is the very definition of the big stage.  Billy Beane stayed in Oakland and got a small equity stake, but you know he would have liked to have earned two rings and be the toast of Beantown.  Basketball in New York is vastly different than here in Cali.  Yes, you have to put up with demanding fans, but they will shower you with glory when deserved as well.  Chris would be a household name, a savior for a deeply troubled franchise.  Would a Hall of Fame player not enjoy the challenge of bringing glory to the NBA's favorite franchise?

The Billy Beane...
...comparison isn't wuite there, in my opinion. Mullin's been involved with our organization on and off for the last twenty years, as a player an executive, and while New York is a bigger media market than the Bay, it isn't as if we're sturggling to get recognition (certainly not the way the Oakland A's might).

The Post is shameless
It's best to be cautiously skeptical toward any scoop that two-bit rag publishes.

Why would he go?
Why would Mullin leave a franchise he's rebuilt to go to a trainwreck that he didn't start? That would be some kind of foolishness.

Money, power, fame...
It's all speculation. But everybody has their price.
