Good for the Warriors playoffs chances

So this is what life looks like for the Twolves with KG. It's not a pretty sight is it? Boston is 20-2, Minnesota is 3-20. Nearly exact opposite records. Oh my goodness! I know we ask this every year or probably every time the Warriors play the Twolves, but I'll do it anyway, "How in the world does Kevin McHale have a job?!" You know what's scary? He could be employed even longer than this year because the owner will have given him a buffer since he's amassed some young talent. Hit the jump for more on the Twolves youngins and the Warriors chances.

Hahaha! Nellie, the Twolves aren't really an NBA team!

Star-divide

The Twolves believe they have a good young roster. They've traded for expiring deals and will probably try to collect draft picks for more talent. Honestly, I just don't trust McHale. But as long as they're bad, that's one less team for the Warriors to worry about. Anyways, here's a quick rundown of the young guys on their roster:

  • Al Jefferson: He's head and shoulders above the rest of the group right now and they signed him cheap. A 22 year old, 20-10 guy at 5 years $55 million. Whoa. I'll take that in a heartbeat. This guy has the chance to be an All-Star. I am excited to watch this guy tomorrow.
  • Craig Smith: An energy guy who might just out hustle the Warriors. He's had two 30 point games in December so far and looks to be settling into a groove. He's still had some poor nights, but overall it looks like he's going to be more of a consistent threat.
  • Corey Brewer: He had a slow start to his rookie season, but has picked it up lately. If he can get his offense going, he'll be a valuable asset to any team. Still raw though
  • Randy Foye: He's supposed to be the PG of the future for them. Unfortunately he's out indefinitely this year. Next year he might have to compete with OJ Mayo or Derrick Rose for the starting PG spot.
  • Sebastian Telfair: This guy does nothing in Portland or Boston, but now is actually producing. It's a miracle! Or maybe Stephon Marbury's cousin needed the same basketball mecca that is Minnesota to jumpstart his career, just as Steph did.
  • Gerald Green: Ummm wonderfully athletic but that's about it.
  • Ryan Gomes: Nice role player off the bench, but doesn't do it for me
  • Antoine Walker: Haha. Just making sure you're awake. I'm really not sure why he's playing. I can't imagine him helping the young guys develop. This guy never saw a 3 he didn't like. He's launching 4 per game in just 22 minutes per game, or 1 every 5.5 minutes. That may not seem like a lot to Warriors fans, but if he's playing 40 minutes a game, that's about 7/game. Whoa.

Outside of Al Jefferson, Theo Ratliff may be the most valuable piece on this roster because of his massive, but expiring contract. The Wolves might just let it expire and reap the cap benefits, but I could also see them trading him in a deal for some talent or picks.

Even the team from this picture could beat the Twolves this year.

Hmmmm, well this is a Warriors blog, so maybe I should write about the Warriors. I'll keep it simple, the Warriors will win. This game will not be close. The only way the Warriors lose this game is if they get way too overconfident and think they can just walk in and beat this team. But I really don't see Nellie letting them come out flat like they did against Detroit. The Warriors have also shown the ability to beat teams they should be beating.

It's in the bag. The Twolves may wind up with one of the worst records in the history of the league. You know, now I know what it must have felt like to be a fan of any playoff contender facing the Warriors in past years. It's actually kind of fun to be overconfident, I'm...I'm not used to this yet. I can get used to it though.

Predictions

  • Warriors win by 15
  • Baron plays less than 33 minutes
  • Marco and POB get on the court at the same time
  • The Warriors are smoking from the arc and knock down 15 from the land of plenty
  • Al Jefferson collects another double double
  • Antoine Walker shoots 7 3's in under 25 minutes

Randy Foye
needs to hurry up and come back so he can steal playing time from Sebastian Telfair and send Bassy to the bench.

It's not likely anyone will notice Telfair's productivity, but it'd make it easier to acquire him if he were playing 15 scrub minutes a nite the rest of the season instead of 30+.

A Golden state of mind Indeed.

One of those "should win" games
"Should win" games made me nervous last season, because the Warriors would somehow find a way to make it difficult. They've gotten better at winning games they should this season, but I'm still a bit nervous. Old habits die hard, I guess...

Predictions: Warriors carry over their good FG% from last game and get their 3P% back on track. And they win so I can celebrate even more today (end of finals!).

tanking
It's never too early to start tanking, as we saw last year.

Minnesota doesn't even WANT to win games- just play well for spurts, then lose and collect pingpong balls.

I think we should oblige them with a 25 pt lead and 30 minutes a piece for Wright, POB, and Belinelli.

A Golden state of mind Indeed.

Potential trap game!!!
Craig Smith is the type of guy that will KILL the warriors. You all know the type, the undersized PF/C center type that is a bull in a china shop type rebounder that seems to dominate the Warriors on a routine basis. Smith is the same type of guy that Milsap and Maxwell are. Both those guys have had big games against the Warrirors. I would look for Smith to do the same. Now, don't get me wrong... the talent outside of Smith and Jefferson is meager to say the least and Minny perimeter game is suspect at best (unlike Utah and Det), therefore, I can see Smith and Jefferson causing problems and keeping the score closes in 1st half, but then the Warriors' superior talent to take over in the 2nd half leading to a 6 or 7 point victory.

How boring would it be if everyone agreed with me? You're not allowed to anymore, that was ur one free shot.

I think I'll start saying controversial things just to get attention and drum up some buzz for my impending brand release.

Our Frontline is fine.

we need a backup point guard.

Richardson wouldn't have helped us this year.

Ellis is replaceable.

That should set the world on fire.

Down By 8 at the Half

by gby822 on Dec 19, 2007 6:10 PM PST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

turnovers
The key stat is turnovers. We have 6. The Timberwolves have 2.

That means we're not trying.

The Warriors are an emotional team, but there is no emotion in playing the T-wolves. They aren't the Suns or Mavs or Jazz, they're not the Magic or any one worth mentioning.

When you don't have emotion to fuel you, you need to fall back on discipline. The Warriors don't have any.

Our problem is defense. We're not swarming the ball, we're late everywhere, and we give up penetration and stupid unnecessary fouls. Doesn't anyone have any pride? Keep your man in front of you.

Attention Matt Barnes: You are not Scottie Pippen. Stop trying to pass like him.

A Golden state of mind Indeed.

on/off switch
Hrm, I guess you can get away with "flicking the switch" when ur playing a horrible team.

Anyways, tonight's Warrior Wonders (tie) Ellis and Harrington for being highly efficient, combining for 18-29 FG shooting. Didn't see the first half, only caught the second half (sounded from the radio like that was a good thing). Overall, nothing to complain about from Ellis tonight, and the Warriors finally forcefed Harrington when he's hot.

We seriously need to get him the ball in scoring positions more often, rather than having him be a stationary shooter, which is a waste of his mobility. Get him involved early and ride him for a quarter.

On a more somber note, I'm pretty sure Ellis suffered at least a mild concussion, that was a big hit he took from the elbow, then he landed awkwardly. I've had 3, and you feel fine a short while afterwards...but you really aren't. Everything moves a little slower for weeks.

Now both of our SG's are hurt (Azubuike's linger knee + Ellis's head) and our 3rd string PG is retiring. Belinelli better get warmed up.

A Golden state of mind Indeed.

I called this one
Check out my post above... it's just what happened tonight. I told all of you this was trap game and trapped the Warriors were. Against most teams the Warriors would have lost, but since Minny is pushing to be one of the worst teams of all time they found a way not defend the Warriors in the 3rd. Minny let the Ws shoot an astonishing 72% in the 3rd quarter. Furthermore, the Warriors defense was so good that they held Minny to 36 points in the second half after having allowed 62 points in the 1st half.

Simply put the Warriors just wanted this game more and Minny showed that McHale is a freakin' idiot for not getting more for KG than he did.
