OPEN THREAD: Game #28 - Warriors vs. Cavaliers

warriors-cavs.jpg

Warriors (W-L): 15-12

Cavaliers (W-L): 12-15

Time: 3:00PM PST tip off

TV FSN Bay Area

It's two days before the annual day of paper wasting -- the unwrapping of gifts that is -- and the Warriors take on the Cleveland Cavaliers on the road.  After the Warriors basically gift wrapped their poor play yesterday to the New Jersey Nets last night, can we expect them to bounce back and bring us some holiday cheer?

Update (Atma Brother #1):
Warriors Win!! 105-96
Final Boxscore

Stay tuned for the Recap!

Star-divide

Perhaps its the egg nog and fruit cake that's weighing the Warriors down, but tonight they face an equally frustrating team.  Are the Cavaliers the next Miami Heat (sans the ring)?  Is making it to the NBA Finals somehow becoming a curse?

With quite arguably the best player in the league right now, the Cavaliers are starting to look like the Philadelphia Sixers of the early (or even late) Iverson era.  Or rather, the less than stellar free-agent acquisitions and draft picks surrounding King James make you cringe thinking that he might end up having a KG-esque career (look out Boston in 10 years!); the years of sacrifice and ugly wine colored jerseys all for nothing.  Despite James putting up some of the most Magic Johnson-esque's numbers since Magic Johnson, the Cavs have stumbled losing 7 of their last 10.  And lucky for us, Larry Hughes is putting up some of the worst stats of his career (10.1 pts a game, lowest since rookie season), shooting less than 35% from the field.  Lets hope another former bay area professional sports athlete doesn't dismantle his former bay area team a la Jeff Garcia right now in the first qaurter versus the Niners.  Sigh.

I imagine the Warriors will get their act together tonight; as the pattern shows, they usually bounce back well against a embarassing loss.  To get you excited about the season, here are some videos to tie you over until the game (predictions after videos):

Warriors and FSN Bay Area wish you the best this holiday season

PREDICTIONS:

* Warriors by 5
* Baron Davis goes for 22-7-8
* In anothern Eastern European showdown, the more active and mobile AB shuts down creaky Z and explodes for 15-13-4 (blocks)
* Boobie (Daniel Gibson) hits 6 threes is unable to contain Monta and Baron
* A relative gives us an unstylish sweater from JC Penny as a holiday gift.

I think we'll see good games coming from atleast two of BD, Jax or Al maybe all three.

by Psion on Dec 23, 2007 2:38 PM PST reply actions

I feel
that we struggle the most against teams with a decent shotblocker, because then we stop going to the rim and settle for jumpers. This is especially true for Jack as he is very prone to getting rejected. I don't believe the Cavs block that many shots, so I look for a dominating day in the paint. If we keep the rebounds even, we might pull this out.

i am going to be happy either way.
i was pessimistic in my predictions in the tix contest. That way if we lose my predictions will be right and I will get a chance to win tix.

If I am wrong the Dubs will win by a bunch and I'll be extremely happy because we will beaten Lebron which is a good revenge for last night and the home game we lost last time.

Baron will kill 'em
Our big guys have to hustle for every rebound for this to be an easy win. Otherwise it will be a bit more difficult, but we should win this.

C'mon, who is supposed to stop Baron? Or Monta? We'll go to the line more often that yesterday.

The Cavs frontcourt is decent, but if we hit the boards hard, we'll win this 1.

I think these guys finally talked about it and the Nets game probably humbled them a bit. Baron can't be super man in the fourth every game.

If Jackson looks disinterested...

Can you think of how many guys would try to guard LeBron on a hyperextended knee? I can't. Only the unique blend of crazy, brave idiocy Jack brings.

dubs owe us one...
for the pathetic effort last night. After Bynum-izing Josh Boone, letting him clear 8 ORB's for the first time since he was in 5th grade, GS needs to box out, play energetic D, and play with heart and focus for 48 mins. That should be sufficient to get a W against a team with 1 good player. GO DUBS---Merry Christmas GSoM!

Technicals for both coaches
Quite funny, first coach Brown gets called and then after Monta called for a charge, Nellie got angry and he got called. If it was a closer game, Monta's charge and then Nellie's technical could have been key as what would have been a 3-point play was taken away and they got 1 point from the technical free-throw as well as possession and if they had scored a 3 with that possession, it could have been a 7 point differential from what could have happened to what would have.

58.3% from 3, 57.9% overall
We r hitting everything while they struggle (Cavs 43% from the field and 9% from 3). Most often stuff like that evens out in the 2nd half...but not today.

Boom Dizzle and Monta have a combined 32 points, 1 more than half of our points and the Cavs can't stop 'em.

Hughes is getting a lot of stick from the crowd, I don't know why. I know he's had a bad game and has a bad contract but it's a bit harsh, isn't it?

One ..
.. of the things that make the Warriors so exciting to watch, is that you never know what is going to happen. From game to game and sometimes from quarter to quarter.

Consistency is not their calling card so far.

Good Win
We had a comfortable lead the whole game and never looked back, our first quarter set us on our way. However, I would have liked to have seen Wright, DJ Banger, Belinelli and more of Azubuike in the fourth quarter but Nellie didn't choose to play them. Still, I can't really complain after a good win to end a successful road-trip.

Nice to get...
...to head into Christmas with a win. ALthough it felt absolutely disgusting at the time, I think it may be for the best that they lost in New Jersey. Winning games despite starting slow like that can become a sort of negative reinforcement, so it's probably got that they got bit and started trying harder to come out strong.
