Update:
Warriors Win!! 105-101
Final Boxscore

Stay tuned for the Recap!

Star-divide

Okay, we all know this should be the easiest win of the year. Kevin McHale's product is the worst in the league by far and unless they get lucky in the 2008 NBA Draft the TWolves probably won't sniff the playoffs for the next decade. How this former power forward legend still has a job after getting caught cheating, wasting the majority of Kevin Garnett's career, and assembling the worst team in the league right now is beyond me. Makes you wonder what kind of dirt McHale has on Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor. Or makes you wonder if Taylor has an under the table ownership stake in the Boston Collusion- I mean Celtics. Kevin McHale was my preseason pick for NBA Executive of the Year and with the Celtics playing elite level ball it looks like that was a shockingly wise choice.

So you're probably asking why I called this "THE BIGGEST GAME OF THE SEASON!" before the jump when I just called it the easiest win of the year and justifiably trashed the TWolves organization and their mismanagement team. To tell you the truth I was just messing around (yes, I know- how could I do something like that?!). But now that I think about it, tonight's festivity is a big one. As I noted in this week's Counting W's segment over at The W Column on FSN Bay Area the Warriors could lose this one in embarrassing fashion if they gift wrap some career nights to the Timbersmurfs:

Al Jefferson could easily give the Warriors a scare and go 20-20. Rashad McCants could drop 20+ points. Craig Smith could eat up the Warriors' interior and muscle his way for a big double-double. Antoine Walker could turn back the clock for a little shimmy shake and a few treys. Sebastian Telfair could drop double digit dimes. Corey Brewer could go 10-5-5. Worst of all Mark Madsen could come back to the Bay Area and do some bizarre victory dance on the Roaracle Arena floor.

Good god no.

Will any of that happen? Let's closely examine the probability one by one:

  1. Al Jefferson could easily give the Warriors a scare and go 20-20.
Probability: 50% unless DJ Banger bullies him around. The Warriors are Charmin soft inside right now. Ahem, Chris Kaman, Carlos Boozer, Dwight Howard, Andrew Bynum, Joel Przybilla, Matt Bonner (gulp), and Josh Boone.

  2. Rashad McCants could drop 20+ points.
Probability: 75% if he's fully recovered from the flu that's kept him out of the past 2 TWolves games.

  3. Craig Smith could eat up the Warriors' interior and muscle his way for a big double-double.
Probability: 100% if double-double means Double Whopper with cheese.

  4. Antoine Walker could turn back the clock for a little shimmy shake and a few treys.
Probability: 0.5%, but while we're here aren't you surprised McHale hasn't cut Toine yet so he could help the Celtics?

  5. Sebastian Telfair could drop double digit dimes.
Probability: 10% if he doesn't have to attempt to guard Baron Davis and avoids foul trouble.

  6. Corey Brewer could go 10-5-5.
Probability: 7%, but make no mistake Brewer is going to be an excellent all-around player in 2-3 years.

  7. Mark Madsen could come back to the Bay Area and do some bizarre victory dance on the Roaracle Arena floor.
Probability: 0.2%- Never say never, but um... no.

If the Warriors can stop all 7 of those above nightmares from happening I'll give them some major props in the recap and call it a big win. If they let 2-3 of them happen and they still collect the W I'll call it a good win. If 4-6 of them happen and they win I'll call it... just a win. If all 7 of them happen and the Warriors still win, I'll call it an embarrassing win (especially with Mad Dog celebrating- uhhh). And if the Warriors lose regardless of how many of the above big nights happen I'll call it a big loss.

Plain and simple, let's get this easy W.

Also check out:

Before we leave I wanted to send a special shout out to Chris Murphy and the Golden State Warriors organization. Their holiday present to the GSoM Crew this season is a luxury box at tonight's game to house our first ever GSoM Holiday Party. I wish we could invite everyone, but something tells me the Oakland Fire Department isn't going to be too happy about 6,000+ unstoppable baby GSoMers going hyphy in a box intended for 16 people. But if you're going to tonight's game and you bump into any of us make sure to holla. (We're the really good looking guys in stylish threads by our exclusive fashion designer Tony.psd.) If you're going to be watching the game from home on FSN Bay Area you will definitely be with us in spirit as we get this W!

Predictions

  • Warriors by 10, meaning we will not have to witness any of the following tomfoolery:
  • madsen_i.jpg   14madsen-1.jpg
  • Nellie doesn't have to play Baron Davis, Monta Ellis, or Stephen Jackson more than 33 minutes each.
  • Al Jefferson gets at least 20-10 with 2 blocks sprinkled in.
  • Nellie plays Marco Polo and pops in Do the Wright Thing into the DVD player for at least 7 minutes tonight.
  • In the unlikely event that the TWolves win this game, Mark Madsen and the Timberwolves return to a parade in Minneapolis with the Mad Dog dropping a speech that tops his 2001 Lakers Championship one.

  • That's one crazy bilingual mad dog.
  • The GSoM crew and friends are the only ones who get hyphy in the luxury box section!

Throw Up That W!

The Warriors
would pretty much have to sleep walking out there to drop this one. Coming off two days rest, at home, with a frenzied crowd enjoying some time off from work, I just don't see them losing . . . barring catastrophic injuries of course (don't worry, i'm knocking on wood right now). I just don't see the W's coming out flat like they do on the road at home. Gotta get this win heading into a couple tough Denver games. Go dubs! I'll be watching at home.
My girlfriend hates that I'm into basketball again, and that I yell at the TV during games.

well
We've had a few days to get our heads straight and bodies rested. What I'd like to see tonight is a better "mental" game from the squad as a whole- no more forced interior passes, no fouling jump shooters, crisp ball movement and cutting, appropriate rotations on defense, and hard, but well-timed trapping and activity in the passing lanes.

All of these things just require effort and thinking, something that was missing on our roadtrip.

Win the first quarter, put the game away in the second, don't screw around with single digit margins, and rest Baron/Jack.

A Golden state of mind Indeed.

that DJ MBenga is sweet

You know, the Warriors are almost there. Almost there where teams like the Wolves, who should be guaranteed wins, are guaranteed in my mind. Maybe later this season, where I will have that confidence

However, I think the Warriors win by 10 as well

Harrington's quote must be on their wall
You can bet the T-Wolves will be coming out firing after the following quote

"For us to be the team we want to be, we can't lose these games. No disrespect to them, but they're the worst team in the league. We feel that we're one of the top 10 teams in the league."

Yeah, we better be ready for a fight tonight.

for the ppl who need a live feed...
sop://broker.sopcast.com:3912/22668

you can't open this in sopcast alone so this is what you need to do:

(credit to pkcable on myp2p.eu forums)

Yes for VP4/The Game you will need to use VLC Player....

Sopcast/VLC note:
All streams on Sopcast can be viewed with VLC, though for a select few streams this is mandatory. Additionally, sometimes VLC can stream a few seconds or more ahead of what shows up in Sopcast itself, which can help reduce your lag between the stream's source and when you watch it.

To use VLC, download VLC at http://www.videolan.org and install it , then start the Sopcast stream and let it buffer. Then open VLC, go to Open Network Stream, select HTTP option, and type in 127.0.0.1:8902 (if not working, try port 8912). You MUST leave Sopcast running; closing Sopcast closes the stream. If the stream gives sound in both VLC and Sopcast, mute the sound on Sopcast, or hit the refresh button so the Sopcast screen goes blank, but the VLC screen stays intact.

hope you guys can understand this :). enjoy.

by jchao204 on Dec 26, 2007 8:23 PM PST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

clarification
oops:

basically what you do is.

open the sopcast link and have sopcast open and try to buffer...

then follow the VLC instructions posted.

ugh
After looking at the box score, this was actually a horrible game:
  • Gave away most of a 20point lead to the worst team in the league
  • had to play Jack and Baron 40 minutes
  • Azubuike, Harrington, and Jack were atrocious from the field
  • Jack had 6 turnovers, Baron had 4
At some point, Jack is going to have to make a big change and be more efficient offensively, or else this team will never be elite (or we need to trade for another #2 player who IS efficient).

As a team we gave up way, WAY too much dribble penetration, resulting in lazy reach ins and/or body contact fouls.

To me, this is a sign that this team isn't mature enough yet. We do not instill fear in opponents (except the Suns and Mavs) because our heads are not in the game.

A Golden state of mind Indeed.

agree
-this team play with passion but not smart
-bigger heart then brain

this team remind me teenager who break out in real world just year ago and now tries to find the way not just to survive but find out way to success

-this is not rebuilding year -this is team building year -lot of mistakes but better then ever

RIght ON
I loved it when u said "Bigger hear than Brain"---This is exactly the problem with the warriors. They don't think and just plain react in gametime scenarios. Even when we don't have physical size to match with most of the opponents, we can still stay in games by pure determination and heart. But at some point , you have to use the brain power to become elite!!!!!!!!

ATP, I can say 2 things about the w's w/ certainty
  1.  They REFUSE to play their "A" game against "B" teams(or lower).
  2.  Monta will lead the team in scoring in those let down games.
I doubly doubt a dubs squad w/o monta, but w/ white chocolate plays this game unscathed.  No monta, no victory folks.

Ellis
Lately we've had some pathetic opponents (Cavs, Nets, Grizz, Twolves). The next two weeks or so we face Denver twice, Houston, New Orleans, Dallas, the Spurs, and the Grizz, all western conference competition.

How Ellis performs in these critical games with actual opponents will tell alot (and it'll probably have a big impact on my opinion of him going forward)

Thanks GSoM!
Just got back from the game. Thanks again for the tickets.

A few observations:

Section 109 is rowdy as heck

Kaz is not well, he was a step slow all night

Monta can get to the rim so easily I think I'm willing to forgive some of his shortcomings. This guy can just play, pay the man.

The guy that yells "Make your free throws... please!" never gets old... well maybe a little =P

The heckler in Section 109 can get a bit old. I sit right near the GSoM crew, we're both close enough that we can yeah back at the guy. Guess u still don't believe, I guess. This is the NBA,and to downgrade his performance is like saying we were playing against JV teams. I was at the game too
and it just got real nerveracking near the end. C'mon, a 20 point lead against the worst team in the NBA LOST? Nellie obviously planned on resting BD the rest of the game, but instead, Baron had to come and finish the game out. Buike was ice cold from the floor, and could've stuck some daggers with about 1-2 minutes left in the game, but he decided to give us all a scare, setting up McCants for the 3 in return. We held Jefferson down in the beginning, but the 2nd half looked UGLY. TMNT had a good beginning, hitting a couple 3s but he REALLY cooled down. Ugly win. I'm with Tim N Chris, WE GOTTA START PLAYING SERIOUSLY AGAINST THESE GARBAGE TEAMS.

by fryan on Dec 27, 2007 10:45 AM PST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Oh yeah
and when I was down at the team store, some guard was saying how this was gonna be an easy win and we were gonna blow the Wolves out. The other guard said to him, "NEVER say that." I knew that was gonna jinx the W's.

by fryan on Dec 27, 2007 10:49 AM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Monta
This was a clear example of what Minnesota could've gotten had they made the trade with the Warriors for KG.  Jefferson is nice, but the rest of his team are scrubs, whereas you have Ellis, Biedrins, and Harrington.

This non-trade may be a blessing in disguise for the Warriors, as Monta has some big things ahead for him.
