OPEN THREAD: Game 32 - Warriors @ Rockets

Warriors (W-L): 18-13
Rockets (W-L): 15-15
Time: 4:00pm PST
TV: FSN Bay Area
Radio: KNBR 680

Well folks, this year is at an end and for one last night, we can say we accomplished something in 2007. For the second time in three years, we've faced the Rockets on New Year's Eve, in Houston. Both teams are opposite mirrors of each other.

Make the jump for more!

Update (Atma Brother #1):

Warriors Win!! 112-95
Final Boxscore

Stay tuned for the Recap!

Star-divide

The Rockets started the year off Jessica Alba hot, and everyone jumped on the bandwagon crowning Adelman as Houston's savior. However, a couple injuries here and inconsistent plays there, the Rockets are a dismal .500 club. The Warriors on the other hand couldn't be any different. Starting a horrid 0 and 6, the Warriors brought back Jackson from the penalty box and are a gorgeous 18 and 13.

Warrior killer Tracey McGrady is noted to be sidelined again for this game so here's to hopefully a sweet ending for 2007. This would really put a sweet exclamation point for a beautiful year which gave us a playoff berth and first round history. The only thing in our way is a 7 foot 6 inch Chinese guy. How often do you hear that? Yao Ming looks to make YaoButtaMing sound more credible when he defended him in a GSoM thread a month ago, by controlling the Rockets' offense and pushing a low post game. With McGrady out, I think Jackson, Baron, and Ellis will force a fast tempo game to tire the Rockets out and finish the game as quickly as possible to get to the Bay before midnight.

Here are my 2 lists for this ending year and upcoming year:

Top 5 GSoM things to be thankful for 2007:

05 - Stephen Jackson coming back! Look at our record now!
04 - Successful GSoM nights ... and seeing our fans grow =)
03 - Seeing Jessica Alba in the Oracle rooting for the Warriors.
02 - Ending the 50 year playoff drought!
01 - Making first round playoff history by beating the #1 seed, Dallas Mavericks.

Top 5 New Year's Resolutions for 2008:

05 - YaoButta's going to learn how to write more better!
04 - Push to make GSoM the official Warriors website ... or just sell out (whichever is easier ... I kid).
03 - Generate the first ever GSoM Tailgating Ritual before tipoff. Ya'll better come or I'll cry!
02 - Figure a way to get on TV w/ Jim Barnett (legally at first) and promote GSoM.
01 - Convince everyone that Kate Beckinsale should be our new Alba for 2008!

One of my personal resolutions this upcoming year is to have more fun. And to start the resolution, here's a funny clip of one of our GSoM favorite comedians, Russell Peters:

Predictions:

  •  Warriors by 8.
  •  Beans, POB, DJ all hold Yao to 25 points.
  •  Ellis and Baron combine for 45.
  •  Warriors have a 13 point halftime lead and sit the starters for most of the 4th.
  •  Adelman wishes he was back in the bay.
  •  We spot 4+ Warriors fans sitting at the Toyota Center.

by JimBarnett2KevinGarnett on Dec 31, 2007 5:23 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

On the bright side
Despite 19 fouls (most of them bogus, apparently) and 16 turnovers, we're only down 4 at the half.

As far as a refs' conspiracy: it wouldn't surprise me. Yao's on the cover of Newsweek this week. With the Beijing olympics upcoming, there's no way Stern lets the Rockets miss the playoffs...

dude this freakin
bulllshiit. lol i cant even believee what is happening with the officiating here.the refs adknowlede what nelson showed in pietruss so call foul but then he trys to express so many other missed calls he gets ejected.this is horrible especially when where getting charges when the guy is on the three point line giving baron no room to to.the refs better look at the job there doing cause if this was at the oracle they be fuckin booed out the damn building.

cool
we have the best tv announcers cause fitz never bounces around a foul he calls it a break when we get a bad call fitz and barnett are great and man look out in the second half when barnett jumps on the floor at a call.

the refs were pretty good to us toward the end. They didn't blow any whistle for the contact toward the end. It also helped that we had a flurry of 3s toward the end so they couldn't call us for charging :D

Toot, Toot (sound of my own horn)
Posted after the Rockets game on November 29:

17 games to close out 2007
The comment by faetati sent me to the #s and, while we won't go 17-0 in December, we have a nice month to look forward to.  If we take care of business at home, I think we go 6-1 with a loss to the Spurs.  Of the 10 games on the road, I think we could easily take 5 (Sea, Por, Mem, Min & NJN).  With some breaks we could steal a win or two in Hou, Det, LA, Den or Cle.  That puts us at 11-6 worse case and possibly as good as 13-4 for December (19-13 or 21-11 overall).

Happy Holidays Warriorland!

by LosGuerreros on Fri Nov 30, 2007 at 01:24:43 AM EDT

Happy New Year! and now on to January:

16 games to begin 2008.
If we beat the teams we're supposed to(Griz x2, Bucks, Wolves and Knicks), get some tasty home cookin' against the Pacers, Nets, Spurs and Hornets and steal a tough road win or two, we're lookin' at 8-7 worst case, maybe 10-5.  That would put us in the 27-20 to 29-18 range overall.

I just got home from the game
and my baby brother and I were the proud Warriors fans in the stands-- complete with a run TMC era cap from my childhood! I don't know if you guys could tell from TV but it was pretty quiet in there tonight.  However, I nearly punched out this really annoying girl behind me when the Warriors were down by 10.  But dubs for the win-- what a great way end to 2007!

(my question is however... I'll be at another away game @ Chicago next month.  How can I get an autograph?)

by jjj111 on Dec 31, 2007 8:36 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

Try to arrive
2 to 1 and a half hours before the game....usually, the players will come out and sign autographs in a special section. I'm not sure if they do it in Chicago though....best to check their website.

Answer:
1991-1992. We were 19-8 entering the new year, en route to a 55-27 season.

If you think this team can push the pace and fill it up: that team, a modified Run-TMC with Billy Owens having just replaced Richmond, scored an average of 118.7 ppg.
