Rumor: Miami Heat Interested in Mickael Pietrus

Let's put together the pieces- the Warriors and Heat have talked about Smush Parker, Micakel Pietrus become tradeable tomorrow and has wanted to go to Miami since this past summer, and it looks the Heat are indeed interested in the services of Air France. From Sam Smith of The Chicago Tribune:

The Warriors' Mickeal Pietrus is playing less and saying he'd give his permission for a trade, which is required in a fifth-year rookie deal. Miami is said to be interested.

Make the jump for some throwback links and a quick tidbit about Damon Stoudamire.

Star-divide

Just like the Kenny and Charles were joking on last week's TNT NBA Thursday about Damon Jones shifting the balance of power in the East with a trade from the Cavs to the Heat, I just don't see Pietrus being the catalyst for the Heat bounce back. Ricky Davis hasn't worked out all that well for them and he's a much better player than Pietrus.

More on MP2:

Do you see any deals including Mickael Pietrus between the Warriors and Heat making a significant impact on their 2007-2008 seasons?

Later on in Smith's rumor round up he also notes that he sees the Warriors making the move for Mighty Mouse:

With Troy Hudson gone for the season, the Warriors need point-guard insurance and you can see them going for Memphis' Damon Stoudemire, who is on an expiring contract and about to lose playing time to rookie Mike Conley Jr., who's on his way back to the Memphis lineup from injury.

Quick thots
SWmush never did it for me -- I always loved him out there for the Lakers, because it improved our chances.  Stoudamire would be much better.  As would Arroyo.  My choice, tho, would be to take a run at Andre Miller (but Cohan would have to agree to pay for it).

Three great signs: first, the W's are now a good road team (a HUGE jump from last year); second, the W's are HITTING their FT's (another huge jump): finally, tho BD, Jack and Monta are our "Run TMC" we're seeing AB play his best ball (his confidence -- and his hands -- are back) and Al seems to have found his comfort level.

Now, we just need to cut BD's minutes (BTW, MThompson has a nice article on available PGs today -- though he ignores my best option out there: Andre Miller), get KAZ back on track (he's looked lost for over a week now), and get BW some playing time (hopefully, by dealing MP for a backup point).

Tough game tonight, given the B2B; if the W's can somehow walk away with a win, it'll be very, very big.

Andre Miller
I know my man Adam is a big fan of his game too, but I'd be hesitant to bring him on especially with his big contract. I loved him in Cleveland that year he dropped 10.9 dimes a game and thought he was a future superstar PG, but he's disappointed me since. George Karl didn't really seem to enamored with his shot selection in Denver and KMart almost came to blows with him in the playoffs 2 years back. The rumor was Kenyon was mad at Miller and thought he quit on the team (could be completely false though).

For people who thought Baron was fat and out of shape two years ago (I thought he was just too strong and heavy and needed to tone down with his weak knees) get a load of this guy. He looks really out of shape and arguably fat which is just unacceptable for an NBA guard. I don't have that much confidence that he'd last that long under Nellie. I might give it a shot if there's no other options, but he's a big, big risk.

OK
I didn't remember Miller being that fat, but I'm one of those who saw BD as way out of shape (FAT) tweo years ago, so if that's the case with Miller - I'd forget him, too.  I still don't like Smush, tho.  Stoudamire may be the best option.  Thanks for the heads up on Miller, Atma.

Throwing names out there
Could MP and a 1st get us Tim Thomas or one of Seattle's frontcourt players?  Or would teams be hesitant to trade a "big" for MP2 and prefer instead to deal a player more similar in size to Pietrus?

Unless teams absolutely refuse to offer anything remotely fair, I think you have to make this deal.  Pietrus' free throw shooting, attraction to stepping out of bounds, and inability to do anything on offense besides converting open 3's and dunks won't be missed.  His occasional rebounding and defense will be missed, but can also be replaced.

I haven't seen any of the guys mentioned above play much but judging by their stats and the little I've read of them, they could help fix some of our frontcourt problems.  Of course, the deal's only worth making if the front office is willing to bite the bullet for a year: bringing in a new contract cannot mean we let Biedrins or Monta slip away, and hopefully only one of Barnes/Azuibuke....

picking the right back up PG for the Warriors
Smuch Parker would be a disaster in the making. the guy can't handle the ball and makes tons of mistakes on the court. from watching all the lakers games, he has extremely low basketball IQ for a PG. Stoudamire is a better PG, true, but he is also getting old and is prone to injuries.

Warriors need a young PG that's physically up to the task of pushing up the ball every single time, who can knock down free throws, but most importantly, a pure PG - pass first PG, not a slasher/scorer PG.  Smuch Parker is not a good decision maker on and off the court.

Jason Williams - if Pietrus must go to the Heat
If Michael Pietrus really wants to be traded to the Heat, the Warriors are better off taking white chocolate than smuch parker.

Remember how good J. Will used to be when he ran all the fast breaks for the high scoring Kings back in the days? Can you imagine if Nellie gave him that freedom to run the fastbreaks here? I think he's perfect for this type of offense. Remember we're not asking this backup PG to score or lead the team, but to keep the offense going. Just go on Youtube and see how well this kid runs the fast breaks.

if there's nobody worth it
just don't trade him

I think most of the critics regarding his offense are a bit unfair because Nellie doesn't make him play where he supposed to
and defensively, well, he's still better than average no matter where you ask him to play

I don't see why so many people want to get rid of him like he's the new Foyle, considering how we use him

and there are definitely teams that could provide him with more minutes, probably not 35 but still more than what he gets these days
