OPEN THREAD: Game #18 - Warriors vs Bucks

Warriors (W-L): 9-8

Bucks (W-L): 8-8

Time: 7:30pm PST

TV: FSN Plus

Radio: KNBR 680

Yi Jianlian. Did we hype him up enough during the offseason? He's making his Bay Area debut tonight in the Warriors' Asian American Heritage Night. Normally, I wouldn't get excited about the Bucks because other than Michael Redd it's hard to get excited about watching these guys. Mo Williams? Good player but not exciting enough to make me plan my night around watching him. Andrew Bogut? Maybe. But I'm definitely excited to watch their #1 draft pick, Yi Jianlian of Yi Movement fame. I'm not the only one either. I expect many members of the Asian community to come out and watch The Yi Movement just as they came out last Thursday to watch Yao.

It was less than a month ago that David Thorpe called Yi, "the best rookie to date". High praise at that point. Yi has fallen off a little since that November 15 article seeing a dip in points and rebounds. He hasn't scored in double digits in 4 games nor has he grabbed more than 4 rebounds despite averaging nearly 25 minutes. That doesn't dampen my enthusiasm for tonight. I've never seen him play but from articles around the web, he seems smooth for a man that tall and fun to watch.

As far as the Bucks, they're a poor road team at just 2-6 on the year. Win number 2 came last night as they knocked off the slumping Clippers by winning the 4th quarter. The Warriors should take advantage of the Bucks being on the 2nd game of a back to back. They should be rested and should try to come out quick to put the Bucks away early. Also, if the Warriors throw Jax at Redd and make it difficult for him to score, it'll be interesting to see where the points come from. Mo Williams is capable of scoring 20+ points and I'd rather make him a scorer than distributer. The other key matchup is keeping Bogut contained. He's their leading rebounder and having a solid season, but the combination of Biedrins and TMNHarrington should do the trick.

Honestly, I'm not really worried about this Bucks team. Talent wise, they just don't match up. The Warriors will impose their frenetic style of play tonight and the Bucks will be no match. Am I overlooking this Bucks team? Yes. I'll admit it. Am I overconfident now that the Warriors are one of the hottest teams out there? Yes. Geez they nearly beat Orlando with Baron and Al a combined 10-40 from the field. This could be a lot closer than I think especially if the Warriors come out flat, but I just don't think Nellie will let that happen.

Look for Tony.psd and Boom Dizzle sign!

Predictions:

  • Warriors win by 15
  • Baron's line: 27pts, 4 rebs, 11assists
  • Biedrins goes in'n out style with a double double
  • The Big Yi-sy impresses with an efficient 15 points
  • Michael Redd gets SHUT DOWN and scores less than 15

Injury Update
Forward Mickael Pietrus, still experiencing headaches from his collision with Sonics guard Earl Watson on Sunday, expects to miss his second straight game tonight with a bruised nose.

From SFgate.com

Observation:
Bogut is playing significantly better defense than last year. Bears watching since we'll be blowing by all of their perimeter players.

its blowout time
Yi's gonna suck.  all the pressure and the hype he's  gonna fold like a cheap lawn chair made in china.  Redd's gonna be exhausted by the second half just like T-mac was in the rockets game from all the people running at him if he gets by captain jack.  By second half we'll be so far ahead that some of the back benchers will be on the floor. maybe even B-wright.

what i can't understand
Is that Chicago's Noah is getting more PT than Wright. Granted Noah should be better now, but they are what 4-12 or something on a veteran team at that!? I thought Wright would at least get more PT than he's currently getting. Hopefully he gets his minutes by January. I expect at least 20+ a game after the deadline.

if we played Wright like they do Noah
we may ver well be 4-12 like the Bulls. Im sure BW will get his time. We havent even played 20 games yet. So why rush it?

by highflya on Dec 5, 2007 5:38 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

4-12
If he started maybe, but i'm talking at least spot minutes in every game, such as 2 bigman off the bench. He just needs to get consistent minutes and then maybe Nellie can find a defined role for him this season instead of letting him run loose in blowouts. Same with POB. I'm dumbfounded as to why Mbenga is getting minutes over POB who at least has shown to have some inclination on offense. Mbenga looks like Foyle with a blindfold over his eyes on offense.

Yeah your Wright
Maybe he will play tonight if we can control the game and get a nice cushion. My fingers are crossed for him and POB. It would be nice to see them play a few minutes just to see if they can contribute that given night. Unfortunately its out of our hands. Im pumped and ready to watch this game tonight regardless of who plays. I just want to see a WIN. No emotional rollercoaster tonight unless we get the dubya.

i agree
if we get pob and bwright some time during the season by playoff times i bet they're gonna be able to give us some much needed minutes to rest TMNT and Biedrins.  I just don't understand what nellie's thinking.  our "bigs" playing all these minutes is gonna catch up by season's end and pob and bwright won't be ready to help.  I thought the whole point of the season was to get your team ready for the playoffs.  I don't think we're doing that right now.

obs
mbenga earning his minutes - leads team in "bothers"! not to mention his job on the boards

barnes is definitely growing on me, lots of intangibles, but steals is what sparks our break and it always seems like he's get'n his hand on the rock  ...

where is Yi? one dunk on an o-board

did anyone else notice Hudson defer to Jax to bring the ball up? what backup PG indeed ...

harrington "doing the dirty work" as they said ...

Man
That whole quarter should have belonged to Wright and POB.

Nellie keeps on leaving his starters in too long.

What a 20+ point lead in the 3rd quarter + starters still logging minutes = Nellie not trusting his bench players.

Monta and Wright had monster jams. Props!

section 124, row 13 and I can't recall in decades ever witnessing such a sound beat down... of the opposition.

i have, however, left the colisium several times in disgust wondering if we'd ever be 'good'

tonight made up for all those other times.

it's good to know, OUR TIME HAS COME!
