Around SBN: Jeremy Lin And How The Pac-12 Missed Him

OPEN THREAD: Game #19 - Warriors vs Heat

Warriors (W-L): 10-8

Heat (W-L): 4-14

Time: 7:30pm PST

TV: FSN Bay Area

Radio: KNBR 680

Coming off four consecutive losses, the Miami Heat enter our domain tonight to play one of the hottest teams in the league, our beloved Warriors. Who would have thought at this point in the season the Heat would be 4 and 14? Granted, they didn't have their top player Dwyane Wade for the first couple of weeks, but come on? They have Shaq ... the most dominant ...errr well an aged superstar who plays maybe one out of every 4 games to his potential.

Warriors have won 10 of their last 12. I haven't had this much fun watching the Warriors since the Run TMC days. Tonight we play a pretty strong Eastern Conference team. However, I predict we cream them by 12! Yea that's right. I know historically we have problems with big guys like Shaq and superstars like Wade, but after coming off a loss against the Trailblazers, we're looking to run the tables on them.

When you're a high profile GSoM individual like I am, you get invited to prestigious holiday parties where I got the opportunity to meet Jim Barnett and his lovely wife. I asked where they think the Warriors will end up come playoff time and they both adamantly stated the Warriors will be no lower then a 7th seed. I agree and look for the Warriors to prove a 7th seed in the West is like a 3rd seed in the East.

If you are a Bay Area native, this week Aries Spears, one of my favorite comedians, will grace us at Cobbs Comedy in San Francisco. I couldn't find one of his Shaq impersonations but here is one of my favorites I just had to post:

completely unrelated ... but funny ...

Predictions:

  •  Warriors by 12.
  •  Shaq gets into early foul trouble. Sits most of the night on the bench.
  •  Barnes comes up big tonight.
  •  Do we see POB and Wright together? NO! they get a combined 2 minutes of play.
  •  Wade held to 30 points.
  •  Harrington hits 4 three pointers.

Update (Atma Brother #1):

Warriors Win!! 120-113

Stay tuned for the Recap!

Adande ESPN column
about the Warriors.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/columns/story?columnist=adande_ja&page=Warriors-071207

These writers forget last year GS played half the season with a lineup that prominently featured Troy Murphy and Mike Dunleavy, that was at least a 48-win team with the post-trade lineup. still, it's a nice write-up.

My girlfriend hates that I'm into basketball again, and that I yell at the TV during games.

AAAAHAHAHAHAHAAA
I dont know how to put it in the quote box, or im just lazy... pick. BUT this was hilarious and i feel the same way....

"If you've been watching them, you've seen the most entertaining squad in the league. And maybe you have come to the same realization I have: There's nothing you can do to stop their style. You know how you don't want to fight a crazy guy, because you don't know what he is going to do? The same thought applies here. If the Warriors are going to shoot the first 25-footer they see, is there really any way to defend against it? " - JA Adande

RUN
Miami looked absolutely deflated last night in Portland.  I can't imagine the Warriors doing anything but running circles around them tonight after a solid day of rest.

Shaq is awful.

1st post - regular reader
Heat stand no chance.  Warriors are going to run them out of the building.

102 - 88

I look forward to seeing Shaq staring aimlessly from the bench for half of the game.  Hurry up and retire - save face.  Zo has played better than you for the past 3 seasons - and he has jacked up kidneys.

can't wait
to see al harrington covering shaq it's gonna be awesome.  and at the end of the night getting the best of him.  will shaq come outside so monta and baron and Sjax can run a layup drill or will he stay inside and let al have a career night hitting like 8 3 pointers.  love nellie ball.

"pretty strong Eastern Conference team"
ya... I don't think so
It's almost like the Warriors have 6 guys out there... they always have a guy open! - Jon Barry commentating game 3 last year

by gsw4life on Dec 7, 2007 1:32 PM PST reply actions

LOL
wade "held" to 30?  Is that holding him?  Being that 30 is 10 points above his average I would say thats him owning the warriors... which he will do tonight.  I don't care who goes off against the warriors, b/c there is at least one player that will... Utah has Milsap, Detroit has Maxiell, Orlando had Bogans... I wouldn't be surprised if Wade and Davis went off tonight... but as long as the team wins thats all that matters.

by david240z on Dec 7, 2007 1:40 PM PST reply actions

if we don't win by 20.
I will be surprised. The heat did like like doodie last night, and we've got them at the end of a west-coast roadie. They play like they're headed uphill to the nearest gas station. Riley looks like the ghost of hannukah past.

predictions
  1. Score at 60-15 after 20 minutes
  2. Shaq asking for a respirator seconds before the first quarter buzzer
  3. Mark Blount challenging Jax at shooting threes
  4. Alonzo scowling Harrington down after blocking him with the score at 135-80

don't you think it's a reach to call the heat pretty strong, yao? grandpa shaq and always-hurt dwayne...waaaaaaaaade are the only attrations on this team of perennial losers. this roster is a far cry from the team that went all the way in 06. dubs by 22

No reach ... just stretch
Can't underestimate the Heat. They still have Wade and Shaq ... so they still are a strong team. They haven't started well but given their poor performance last night they could come out hot!

I agree... Miami is pretty much a traveling circus. And they lost 2 very good sharpshooters who helped pick it up when they were struggling... The Warriors on the other hand play like a pack of wild marauders (sp?) trying to steal everything from everyone. Were like Deebo... "What you got on my 40?" Dubs by 20.

we're so far in good shape.
we're doing things right, passing the ball and stuff. Just that the shots are not falling... YET. And the Heat is shooting well. But really, we just need to secure the rebound better and let things settle and we can turn things around.

missed layups galore
the two things that should be easiest for basketball players to do (layups and free throws) are the things the warriors struggle with most

by AJC3317 on Dec 7, 2007 8:36 PM PST reply actions

We will crush Miami
in the second half.C-mon heat can't shoot that good for long and warriors shots will start to fall and we know the defence is going to be (W)right in the fourth so there is just no reason to panic.

by buky on Dec 7, 2007 8:39 PM PST reply actions

what?
ur telling me the heat won't shoot this well in the second half if the warriors keep leaving them wide open? ur telling me the warriors can't keep shooting this poorly? did u watch the orlando game? what about the sacramento game? what about the philly game? what about the boston game? the warriors can easily keep shooting this badly.

and if u think wright will find the court at any time during this game ur crazy, unless it's a blowout

Another one bite the dust
Riley got sucked into playing small ball and that became their downfall.

Also, credit the refs for finally letting the guys play in the end. Alot of banging back and forth with no silly whistles.

And the good news, this is bad game so looking forward to Sunday's game when we shoot the Lakers out of their building

by lightz0ut on Dec 7, 2007 10:18 PM PST reply actions

big victory
gotta say, what a huge win for us right now.  it almost seemed like this was gonna be a natural letdown, and one where the heat try to get back to where they believe they belong in the standings.

but they didn't have the legs to keep up with the warrior machine.  whoever said the suns run our style better is full of shiiite

davis, ellis and co are gonna go nuts this year. 50 + wins, after 0-6

big time victory

by curtischin on Dec 7, 2007 10:19 PM PST reply actions

That was the sign of a good team
The Warriors could have folded after watching the Heat hit shot after shot to negate any runs the W's made. They didn't, and they won this game out of pure determination. I'm not happy with fugly shooting in the first 3 quarters, but I am proud to support the way our team gritted it out in the 4th. Well done guys.

Last year
we have a bunch of games like this that went the other way, they basically just gave up. This year though, they stick together and play till the last second of the game. The team has matured.

by panhandlelegend on Dec 7, 2007 10:41 PM PST reply actions

I was at the game...
...in section 214, and there were a couple of very vocal Heat fans sitting right behind me. If anybody's seen that video going around of the terrible woman describing her rituals when she sees the Knicks play, it was sort of a less ridiculous version of that. Every play the Heat converted would be met with a loud, piercing "YES! YES!" Every foul call in favor of the Heat would be met with a howling "GOOD CALL, REF!" (speaking of which, Wade's mom must've been called for a foul when she birthed him). In fact, she even gloated about Shaq inducing a lane violation, which I've never heard anybody do. When the whistle blew, she yelled, "LANE VIOLATION," followed quickly by "always be steppin' in the lane every time!" I think it speaks somewhat to Shaq's decline that inducing a lane violation while missing a free throw would be that exciting to somebody.

In any case, with the Heat down seven with two minutes left, I turn around to find the duo has left the building. Seriously, that's pretty weak. Not only is it very possible to score seven in two minutes, but if you're talking trash at an away game, you gotta take the heat (heh heh) when things go bad.

by Zack Vank on Dec 7, 2007 11:41 PM PST reply actions

Must be a trend among Heat fans.
Same story in sxn 109. Very vocal Heat fan the entire game in the row behind us. (she was good natured overall though), but every score she was super loud and boisterous.

We pull the W off and Atma and I turn around to "good game" her, and lo and behold, vanishing act.

Reports from Dub fans in her row speak of her actually putting her jacket on over her Heat jersey as the realization set in that our lead wasn't going anywhere. Guess it suddenly got cold in the relatively confined space packed with 20,000 people.

Funny; I don't remember ordering a side of weak sauce with my Warriors game. But it tasted good nonetheless!

by Tony.psd on Dec 8, 2007 12:31 AM PST up reply actions

Oh he was there!
And he reached a new level of annoyance.

About halfway through the game he realized that the words "seat" and "heat" rhyme. I can only imagine how elated he was when he made this incredible discovery, because for the next hour he kept screaming "Get up out of your seat, we're beating the Heat."

Unfortunately, that was the point in the game where we were still down by ten (read: not beating the Heat), and all of section 109 had heard more than enough of his other idiotic rantings. But, determined moron that he was, he kept screaming it, and no one; not one single person at any time during this hour of torture; displayed any appreciation for his untouchable rhyming skills.

Which is unfortunate, really. I mean, "seat" and "heat". That's pretty innovative. It's amazing he doesn't have a record deal...

What a game!
I turned it off and fell asleep when we were down by like 14. I woke up and turned the came back on with 4 minutes to go in the 4th quarter. I couldn't have picked a better time to turn the game back on. My weekend is made.

GO WARRIORS!

the crowd was just HYPED. near the end of the 3rd quarter, basically everyone was on their feet. it felt like the entire fourth, we were on our feet.

I was
jumping up and down the last 5 minutes. Just when I thought you couldn't call us contenders anymore, they pull this out. I still remember all those games over the years where we folded everytime we fell behind. This is definitely refreshing. Good shooting night due in LA, let's end the Laker dominance!

crazy
just crazy....talk about saving your run for late. Something had to give, we were just hanging around for most the game before we went nuts in the 4th.

ah would have love to have seen this game, unfortantly in Aus we are stuck having to listen to the game live until i can watch a replay after.

Was thinking about turning it off at 100-89...but thought nah i'll hang out a bit longer....and suddenly its a 104-102 game
