j-kidd coming home?

from peter vesey comes this latest lovely rumor, which doesn't seem too improbable except for the fact that the Nets are building a billion dollar arena complex in Brooklyn and J-Kidd is the surest way to have a playoff-worthy team on the court.  nevertheless, it is always beautiful to speculate about a superstar homeboy coming back to the 'town.

some questions i have for the GSOM community:

  1.  any chance mullie can pull this off?
  2.  if the vesey trade were to happen....
Would the Nets accept, say, Jason Richardson (four years and $55M left after this one), Adonal Foyle (two years and $19M) and rising-free-agent Michael Pietrus? If Jason Collins (two years and $12.3M) were included in the deal, most certainly!

would this be worthwhile?  wouldn't we lose the strongest soldier on the team, while being left with the biggest point guard bottleneck this side of the big apple?

and 3. how many games would the warriors win in the second half with j-kidd?  out of 38 or so games, i'd rate the over/under at...26?

i wouldn't
give up j-rich for kidd. maybe baron tho

I agree...
with that. Kidd would be a great mentor for Monta, I just cannot see how Baron Davis and Jason Kidd could co-exist. They both need/want to bring the ball upcourt.

I would do: Baron+MP+2nd round draft pick for Kidd.

i don't see how getting rid of baron
would fix mullins mistakes?  Adonal yes.  Pietrus, i would rather trade now then get nothing for him at the end of the season.  i would only do this trade you proposed if new jersey threw in a first rounder which probably won't happen

The Nets
would never take Barron Davis.  He has a very similar contract to Kidd, giving them no cap relief.  Plus with an old body for a 27-year-old and a surley reputation, Barron is not the type of player to build around.

I personally think that the Nets will stand pat (Vesey, as his job dictates, is just trying to get somebody to read his column). When Jefferson comes back, the Nets have as good a chance as anybody to do some damage in the East.  They will wait until the summer to see if Carter opts out, at which time they can sign and trade him.  At that point, they might also look to trade Kidd.

I do think there is pretty good chance that the Warriors trade J-Rich by the summer, but for a front court player.

i could see
us trading baron and something for jkidd and something.  i think if we traded baron straight up for j kidd we would be getting ripped off.
i could also see us getting rid of baron for jkidd who probably has less years left and then we would slowly bring monta into that role as the starting point gaurd and jkidd would be his mentor.  if we could throw them an offer of baron and mp maybe throw in adonal and somehow get jkidd pluse a 1st round pick and or collins that would be nice.  but somehow i don't see mullin trading baron or jrich especially since the new guys from indiana are such good friends with  baron and j rich.
i could see the warriors making another trade before the deadline but i doubt it will be any blockbusters like these.  I think that they still believe that once everyone is healthy and they get their lineup of baron, jrich, stephen jack, Big Al, and Andris then they will be very good.

rip off?
I don't really see how Baron for Kidd straight-up means we're getting ripped off, considering Baron's injury history. Maybe you meant Nets would be getting ripped off? Nets would never accept Baron as any part of the deal

also
how good is collins?

by travisl212 on Feb 18, 2007 12:11 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

Collins
is averagin 2.5 points and 4.2 rebounds in 23.2 minutes per game. He is by far the worst player getting significant minutes in the league. In fact, I've read articles claiming him to be the worst statistically in the last two decades. That's what Peter meant when he said the Nets would accept the trade if we would take Collins, because he is so atrocious.

I see a few aspects as unavoidable
  1. If Kidd comes, Baron has to go, either in the same deal or a follow-up.
  2. The Nets don't want Boom Dizzle.
As such, the most logical deal is a 3-way. Alot of people have been talking about Baron going to the Lakers, but I see another logical destination in a 3-way: The Hawks. They have some cap space, so they can eat a portion of salary which helps the Nets save money, need a PG badly, and have some movable pieces that would work.

Basically, the deal would be:
Baron to the Hawks
Kidd to the Warriors
Childress and parts to the Nets
