Recap: Warriors 118, Grizzlies 115 OT - Living in the Moment

This overtime is worth the game alone.

Right now it's 112 - Warriors to 113 - Grizzlies. While watching Monta and Miller go shot for shot against each other for the past three minutes, I have come to a decision.

"What the hell, let's start the recap now!"

Question Mark

Not quite sure what to put here. (The game is still going) On a separate note, what the hell is that question mark made out of?!

My recap is going to live and die by the remaining 1:15 left on the clock. From the energy I've seen out there, I think we're going to pull this off. Keep in mind that should the game swing the other way, my article will take a downward slide. I may very well put my fist through my monitor. No. That was a bluff. Well, maybe not. I wouldn't put it past myself.

Harrington just nailed a jumper. My monitor is safe for now.

While I wait for Gasol to take his free throws, let me take some time to marvel at the game that we're watching. First off, JRich is back and it's damn good to have him. Nellie seems to have followed the rules of common sense tonight by limiting his minutes. JRich, however seems to have followed the rules of JRich by dropping a cool 17 points, 10 boards, and 5 dimes. So far...

jrich

IT BEGINS ...again. Wait. We've already been over this.

This whole game so far has been a rollercoaster ride! While I hate the fact that we are running so close to a team that is 14 and 41, the Grizzlies have come out with their A-game. Mike Miller has definitely been crowned the Warrior killer for the night. With 45 points right now, (That's right. 45) it looks as though he can do no wrong. His last shot was from 3 feet behind the arc. Who takes those?! That's like a shot to win a Cadillac at halftime!

Damn that's creepy. No wonder we won't come near him.

Monta misses! Memphis missed! Monta with the board! FOUL! We're up 115 to 113 with 17.2 seconds left.

This is the part where we clench our fists and cling to hope. The part where the commercial breaks are no more than 30 seconds long and all we can do to contain ourselves is hit refresh to see what our fellow Dubs fans are thinking. I know this feeling all to well. So do you. These are the moments we live for.

Sarunas nails both of his free throws! Why does a 4 point lead with 16.6 seconds left still terrify me? Oh right, it's because I'm a Warriors fan.

Overall I'm really pleased with this team right now. (If we lose, strike that last statement from the record.) Jackson, Ellis, Richardson, Harrington and Biedrins have all been major contributors tonight. This has been no one man show. Well..., unless you count Mike Miller...

Miller actually missed one?! Even though he was 4 feet out, it felt like everything he touched went in tonight. I'm glad to see he tanked it when it counted! Jackson to the line, 7.3 seconds left. The knot inside me is starting to loosen.

I don't want to do any sort of further analysis to curse the rest of this game. Let's all enjoy the end together, shall we?

An easy dunk for Gasol but with 2.3 seconds left, all we have to do is inbound the ball...

...

...

I am at peace.

Boxscore

Warrior Wonder: Man this is a tough one. Almost everyone came out to play tonight! I think I could justify giving it to any one of our five major contributors tonight. Biedrins should be noted for his outstanding boards tonight. Jackson came heavy with the dimes. Monta essentially owned the entire overtime.

But there's one guy that I think we were all overwhelmed to see step onto the Arena floor tonight. I'm sorry. I gotta give it to him.

"Number twenty-three in the program; Number one in our hearts..."

Jason. Richardson.

Welcome home warrior.

jrich is number one in my heart!
I agree.
I love the Warriors. I love how this site is filled with tons of people who agree the Warriors suck, but still watch every game. I am with you.

Umm.
I'm gonna go ahead and say that was Recap of the year for me. Very well written, with an interesting touch on it. Well done my friend. And guess what? You picked right for WW!

If you take a look out of your windows, you can now see Dallas, TX. Quite the site, no?

great win, great comeback
BUT the Warriors shouldve totally closed out on Mighty Mouse and Mike Miller. I mean... how many times do they have to sink the 3 before defenders know not to give help? I would rather let Gasol get his two buckets rather than let the Grizz stay in it with open 3s.

But of course, I did know that Biedrins was in foul trouble and had no chance of defending Gasol 1v1 down the stretch (Biedrins did make some incredible defensive plays against Gasol in the 4th and OT) and they were trying to slow down Gasol... but DAMN! After Damon and Mike started catching on fire they shouldve switched up the defensive plan.

They shouldve called the fire department for Miker Miller, something.

Good win, lets carry the momentum onto saturday where we squash the playoff potential paperclips and then "KO-BE sucks" sunday!

That all reminded me about
BUT the Warriors shouldve totally closed out on Mighty Mouse and Mike Miller. I mean... how many times do they have to sink the 3 before defenders know not to give help?

...Nellie's story about Monta in the Clipper game, where he told Monta something like "go to your left. If you go to your right Elton Brand's gonna block your shot. So go to your left." And Monta gets the ball, goes to his right, and Brand blocks the shot. (That was the Nellie KNBR interview right before or right after the trade.)

So maybe Nellie kept yelling at 'em to stay on Miller, and they just didn't.

Be a drinsch!

great recap...
and great, great game....

if only that missed jackson layup hit the rim before richardson did that SICK catch and jam. It would've been a top 10 play for sure. what an emotional game.  me and my roommates were screaming at mike miller and screaming with joy at every monta shot, every richardson jam, every biedrins defensive play, and every jackson assist.

PLAYOFFS BABY! WOOOOO!

warrior wonder
monta smooth ellis. This guy matched Mike Miller in the OT. Monta is growing up before our eyes. Nice win, but we dodged a bullet. Can someone please get a hand in Mike Miller's face?

8th seed
Warriors are the 8th seed right now, and in the drivers seat!

by jpgarfunkle on Feb 22, 2007 12:31 AM PST   0 recs

espn sucks
The warriors were great tonight. Great defense actualy, thats always good to see from the dubs, but did anyone see the recap on sportscenter? all they showed were the grizzlies possesions and mike miller knockin down threes. Cant the warriors get any love from the rest of the country even when we pull into a playoff spot? Whats up with that? Why dont they show Monta steppin it up in OT, or Biedrins bein a stud against Gasol, not to mention St. jax havin a great game, or jrich returnin to action?

j rich is awesome
To all those people who wanted j rich traded or thought he should this game proves he should stay. Yeah he missed a couple shots, but did you see how he played he had hustle, looked like he cared, got boards, and ally oops! dam if we had him for those games he missed all those close games would be ours and we would be a 6th place team in the playoffs instead of 8. even though i want the 8th seed cause dallas vs us is gonna be a great series and our only chance to win!

charles you better be right with this one unlike your atlanta idea.

Did anyone notice...
after one of his dunks, j rich looked like he hurt his knee.  after he landed he sort of did this one legged hop. and then i noticed him either grabbing his knee or adjusting his knee support.  the camera also showed him wincing in pain when he was down the court.  am i the only one that saw this? hopefully he is okay. he did finish out the game.

by cmikepee on Feb 22, 2007 8:30 AM PST   0 recs

J Rich
I also noticed he came down a little wierd after a dunk...but it definately wasent THAT ALLEY OOOOOOOOOOP! I almost lost it when I saw that. I was laughing to myself for a minute there, WAY over excited at that point to see this unit out there.

I think J Rich is ok though...he hasent been game tested for a minute, and he is going to have some aches.

I DID see Monta go down for a minute, and I almost flipped out...but obviously, Monta is OK with that OT performance.

As for the Warrior Wonder, it can go to anyone, because the Warriors dont win without Ellis in OT, without Beans on the the D and buckets, without the J Rich boards and energy, or without Jackson handing out assists like its the thing to do. And damn its nice to see a SG (Richardson) board like he did last night.

And as for that question mark...it looks like its made out of whatever the hell SHREK is made out of.

ONE!

I know
I'm thinking way too much when I say this, but we're only 4 games behind the Lakers.
Great game tonight, we never gave up.
Go Dubs!

Warrior Wonder: Man this is a tough one.
Not really, it has to be dick beveta for letting jackson get away with fouling miller on that last shot  of regulation play. The game should have ended with memphis free throws.

by Skeptic con Urquell on Feb 22, 2007 10:36 AM PST   0 recs

then again
the refs have always been making questionable calls against the dubs.

by MANUTEs BOLs on Feb 22, 2007 10:53 AM PST to parent up   0 recs

warrior wonder
Biedrins if you ask me. If it wasn't for him the game would have been lost in the 1st qtr. But then again without JR's 4th qtr the game is lost and without Money we loss it in OT. But I would have to give it to Biedrins becomes with that JR and Money would have had the chance to do what they did.
