Rumor: Mickael Pietrus Most Likely Warrior to Be Dealt Today

The annual NBA trading deadline is upon us! Aside from the Jason Kidd rumors, the Warriors really haven't been that visible in the NBA's version of the tabloids. But it ain't over till Dick Bavetta beats the fat man- or more accurately until the clock strikes 12pm PST today. Anything can happen. There's tons of impact players being shopped as I write this- JKidd, Vince Carter, Pau Gasol, and Rashard Lewis to name a few. Oh yeah, I can't forget Kwame Brown- he's a real difference maker that might be available for the right price. (Kwame for Caron Butler? Haha, nice work Mitch Cupcake!)

From the rumor mill, it looks like the most likely Warrior to be dealt is fan favorite Mickael Pietrus aka LL Cool P (from Janny Hu of SFGate.com):

Golden State is said to be taking feelers on Mickael Pietrus. Pietrus is having his best year as a Warrior, but his tenure could be coming to a close regardless of whether he is dealt before the deadline.

He will be a restricted free agent at season's end, and among the Warriors' surplus of swingmen, Jason Richardson and Stephen Jackson are locked into long-term contracts while Kelenna Azubuike will be much cheaper to keep.

Pietrus is making $2.5 million this season and figures to command part of a team's mid-level exception (worth about $5 million) in free agency.

LL Cool P on the move? Say it ain't so!

Casey Holdahl dropped this update on OregonLive.com about a possible deal with the Portland Not-So-Jailblazing:

As Jason Quick just said on 1080 AM, the Blazers have reportedly offered up Juan Dixon to Golden State for Mickael Pietrus (it works!). That would be the sweetest plum. The only problem is that Quick just told me that the Blazers were rebuked with extreme prejudice, as you might expect. Of course, Juan and Magloire for Pietrus and Adonal Foyle works, but it kind of goes against the whole "we're not going to take on bad contracts" mantra the Blazers have been professing.

Could Citzen Foyle be on the move too? That could be a franchise-altering move. Adonal is the longest-tenured Warrior and the face of the franchise! His game maybe miniscule, but his heart is fat like Albert's.

Do you want the Warriors to trade crowd-pleaser Mickael Pietrus or Adonal Foyle, the face of the franchise today?

hes a fan favorite but i would not mind if he left
Pietris is a cool player with the people but with the team he does not really help us out alot. we needed him alot when dumleaveme sucked but now that we have jax and jrich is back hes not really needed. Plus his corner 3's are not going down anymore. and citizen foyle i dont know nelly dont trust him that much but hes actually been playing pretty good lately but if we get something good for him why not trade him.

Well.
I like having Foyle around, because you know as soon as he comes out he is going to get some blocks.

I hate Pietrus. The guy is just an idiot on the floor. He might be a fan favorite but he frustrates me more and more every time I watch him.

This being said, I don't mind if either of them go.

If you take a look out of your windows, you can now see Dallas, TX. Quite the site, no?

Trade Him
Kelena is way better than Pietrus. Everytime Pietrus has tha ball it looks like he is scared.
I love 2 tell tha truth, but I'm such a Good Liar

do it...
only if it gets rid of foyle. Foyle is suckin us dry. Wasting so much of the clubs money without producing anything for us at all.
Pietrus is fun to watch because he has alot of athletic potential. If only he could be more confidant in his abilities. Some times i see someone pull off a spctacular dunk and i think it is Jrich, only to be surprised that it was actually frenchie. Sometimes he surprises me
I would give Pietrus a lil more time to prove he can help before giving him away, but if giving him away gets rid of foyles contract then its well worth it for us

mp is a nice guy
and a decent player with potential...but his bball IQ (to quote the great Barnett) is lacking at times..he relies too much on his athleticism and doesn't understand the game well enough to consistently perform at a high level

plus he's not going to be worth the money in the offseason so they might as well try to deal him now and try for a big man with an expiring contract...

and if we could dump foyle's bloated contract in the process...it would be heaven sent..

the crowning achievement of ira newble's illustrious career

i guess
but if we trade pietrus what are we getting? I agree Kelenna is cheaper, can hit 3s and FTs, good d, hes a better Pietrus.

An unsettling rumor from New Jersey
"The Lakers were "not necessarily" the team that was "most eager" for Kidd, Thorn said. Although virtually every team in the league has called -- mostly on the hope they could make a killing the way the Nets stole Vince Carter in 2004 -- only one is actually willing to put together a deal that includes a frontline player.

That team is believed to be Golden State, which has been offering Jason Richardson to virtually everybody, but the Nets are unwilling to take on his contract (which runs through 2011) or that of Adonal Foyle (which runs through 2010), who has to be added to make the salaries match Kidd's $18 million."

Nets: Kidd loves playing ball ... it doesn't matter where

AS BEN STILLER SAID IN STARSKY AND HUTCH...
"DO IT...DO IT!"

DIXON and MAGLOIRE for PIETRUS and FOYLE?  that's a no brainer!  once again...addition by subtraction!  honestly when PIETRUS was drafted and i watched him shoot, i thought to myself, his shot is effortless, it looked really natural.  unfortunately, besides his sweet looking shot and D, his game was all over the place.  his court IQ just isn't there over the past how many years now.  he's got the tools, but will he ever develop them before he loses them?  probably not!

as for FOYLE, what can i say?  being a fan favorite doesn't exactly help us win.  and the sight of his screens or the lack of one, and then rolling to the basket, to possibly get a backdoor pass, just makes me sick!  i'm sorry, but he's got pan-hands that are only good at blocking shots.  and honestly, lately, he even hasn't been doing much of that.  yah yah, he hasn't played that much, because of one good reason...he can't!  his timing isn't there anymore.  he might have the IQ as a human being, but we need it to be on the court!  he's just like DUMBLEAVY, but in a bigger mold!  he's got the smarts, but his body can't cash in!

anyways, to make my point...i wouldn't do a DIXON for PIETRUS trade straight up.  that's just like making a trade for trades-sake which MULLIN doesn't like doing, but if it included getting rid of FOYLE and getting a pretty serviceable big man in the process, then i'm all for it!

GO WARRIORS!!!

MP
We should trade him if we can, we need someone with a higher basketball IQ.

by semarubaka on Feb 22, 2007 8:23 AM PST   0 recs

i was hoping
to wake up today with mp no longer being a warrior (i don't hate him, i just think he should be the odd man out at the 2-3 spots). looks like no dice, but there's still an hour left for something to get done
