OPEN THREAD: Game # 58 - Warriors vs Lakers

Warriors (W-L): 26-30

Lakers (W-L): 31-25

Time: 3:00pm PST

TV: FSN Bay Area

Radio: KNBR 680

What a tough loss to take against the Clippers yesterday. We were in it for 3.5 quarters just to lose it in the last 6 minutes. Ouch. That would have been a huge road win. The Warriors needed to get a split with these 2 weekend games before they head out on their 5 game road trip. That's why today's afternoon game is so important. As bad as the Warriors have been on the road, it's hard to expect a winning road trip. So, you know how I know the Warriors are going to win today? They're breakin' out the Hardwood Classics!
The Lakers are going through a slump right now as they're 3-7 in their last 10 games and prior to their win against Boston, they had lost 6 in a row. It's the perfect time to keep them down and not let them get their momentum back.

Vegas Odds: Lakers by 3 (as of 11:52 am PST)

Predictions:

  • Warriors by 4.
  • Monta leads the team in assists.
  • Beans vs Bynum with Beans coming out on top big time.
  • Kobe goes wild and drops 40.

Make sure to give us your predictions in the comments before tip off and post any comments you have during the game right here.

THROW UP THAT W!!

Let's do this! Seriously, I'm sick of watching the Lakers dominate us.

There's no reason why the Warriors shouldn't be able to contain Kobe today. Keep rotating guys on him- JRich, MP2, Barnes, Jax, and Harrington. Deny him the ball as much as possible and try to tire him out on this Sunday afternoon.

PROTECT OUR HOUSE.

we just need to find our kyptonite
nba.com is talking some smack about this game:
The Los Angeles Lakers could be facing the right team to continue their winning ways.

we need to show heart, throw everything we got at the lakers.  we need j-rich to summon his superstar status, we need stephen jax to come up clutch, we need monta to distribute and keep turnovers to a minimum.

warriors by 1 in overtime!!!

Yeaah...
You gotta think that the dubs are gonna crash and burn here. They ran out of gas last night it seems, and they still have to play the lakers coming off of a road trip down to la yesterday.

Lets hope for the bnest though.

I try to stay optomistic...but its finally time for us to start thinking realistically.

The warriors are not a playoff team this year.  Maybe with some improved defense and rebounding And a legitimate power-forward we have a chance next year... but not this year.

by gogomaplata on Feb 25, 2007 5:22 PM PST reply actions

Okay look.
I understand the fact that we're playing not so well .. but "maybenextyear" .. are you even a Warriors fan?

by WarriorFanForLife on Feb 25, 2007 5:29 PM PST reply actions

God forbid
He should want to vent a little after we just crapped the bed in two must-win games againt our biggest rivals and likely flushed our playoff chances down the toilet. Yeah, that's it -- unless he's clutching his Thunder Doll and screaming "we can still do this!!!" he must be a closet Laker fan.

by Sleepy Freud on Feb 25, 2007 5:45 PM PST up reply actions

Are you serious?
Yeah I am a Warrior fan.  Are you a Warrior fan?  Are you happy to see this team play like this?  Give me a break.  I don't know about you guys, But I pay my hard earned money to see these guys play.  Just to see them stink it up night in and night out. Do you actually think these guys can make the playoffs?  Just look at them.  They are pathetic at times.  Sorry for stating the obvious but it's the truth.  Just keep listening to Bob and Jim and the Warriors "Playoff Push Pack" and how we could still win the game with a "couple more stops".  JRich can't save us and neither will Baron, if he even comes back.

by maybenextyear on Feb 25, 2007 10:16 PM PST up reply actions

Dude, I was defending you
I hope I made that clear. Sometimes my irony gets the best of me.

To be clear: I think it's ridiculous to call into question a fan's loyalty simply because he's a little pissed off -- especially in a game thread, right after the second of two consecutive sh-tty losses.

I hear you, maybenextyear, and mostly agree with you. I think that picture of Barnes in your avatar perfectly expresses how a lot of us are feeling right now.

by Sleepy Freud on Feb 25, 2007 11:05 PM PST up reply actions

Evans
At least some random guy didn't go off on the Warriors tonight for a career night.

Oh wait...

by Atma Brother ONE on Feb 25, 2007 5:55 PM PST up reply actions

depressing loss, depressing team
The good news continues to be that Biedrins and Ellis are still playing well, still look like keepers.  Add Richardson and Baron and that's our core.  Azubuike and Powell are good roster filler on the cheap.

Barnes I guess gets some benefit of the doubt due to injury, as he done well in his role, though of course he won't be staying next year.

But still, still, this team is still hamstrung by serious money issues which Mullin is responsible for.

I don't see the light at the end of the tunnel any more.  We're still stuck paying Baron, J-Rich, Foyle, Jackson and Harrington money to be the core of the team.  And it's not close enough to being a good core.

As the Indy people are seeing why we were down on DunMurphy, we are seeing why they gave up on Harrington (and Jackson is something else again).

And as great an interview as Nelson is, one has to wonder whether or not he is able to be an effective coach.

Sigh.

by jakarta on Feb 25, 2007 6:00 PM PST reply actions

can baron
help us get over the hump?? we can only hope so.  seriously, im running out of hope here.  im still thinking post season.  im just glad that GSOM is here to vent on... wither or not we win or lose we still have the greatest nba forum!!!  but one thing that puzzles me about this team so much is that we should be better then our record. also why were the fans cheering on the lakers!!!!  i dont care what the excuse is.  i dont think that would be fair to play in your in own court and the 50% of the fans are against you... that bothers me the most out of this game other then the fact that we lost a "must win".
