Recap: Warriors 90, Bobcats 98 - I Feel Like Throwing Up!

Didn't we trounce the Bobcats by 26 points the other night? Wasn't it I who wrote that recap? Wasn't that the night when FJ and I met the Warrior Girls? Damn, look what can happen when we are on the road! The best lines of the night came from two of our famous GSoM members during the game thread:

What exactly are we good at??? Please enlighten me...

Making the home town fans go home happy. We win at home and lose on the road. So the fans in the arena of the game are usually happy.

I couldn't have said it better myself. The Warriors are dreadful on the road with a record of 5 and 18. If you missed tonight's game then consider yourself lucky. Let me just give you the quick and dirty of what happened tonight:

First Half: We led 53 to 49 at the half and I could have sworn we were going to finish this one off for a victory. I even mentioned it in the game thread which was a big mistake on my part. I consider myself somewhat superstitious, so I think from now on I'll just keep my predictions to myself.

We looked pretty good. Ellis and Baron were having a good game while Al and Jackson seemed primed once again for a strong night. Even Azubuike looked solid. Then came the dreaded...

Seriously Nellie... what's going on here? We need to do an exclusive interview with you!

Second Half: Same old Warriors. What can I really say that you haven't already heard or witnessed?!! We had another mental meltdown, couldn't close out the game and let the Bobcats dance around us the entire time. Our defense let us down, Baron took some ill-advised shots, and no one was able to make plays. The worst part about tonight is that we went 4-21 from behind the arc, good for 19%. That's just awful for a team that relies so much on the outside shot.

Bobcats were dancing the night away in the second half.

We only have 2 more road games left and Monday we travel to Indiana to play the Pacers. That should be an exciting game for everyone! In closing, as a longtime Warrior fan, here is how I feel at this very moment, illustrated by a clip from the Family Guy:

Warrior Wonder: All the Warrior fans out there who stuck it out to watch this game. It wasn't pretty but we were there. And least there's tomorrow's Super Bowl to keep my mind off tonight...GO COLTS BABY!!!

My insides are on fire
thats about where im at right now, this literally hurts.  Someone call 911, this team is flatlining.  On the upside, trade deadline is soon, maybe someone can get swindled into making a deal.

reminiscent of the late 80s
i remember when first started watching the Ws in the mid to late eighties, they used to look hot in the first half then got TOO hot that they would have a serious meltdown.  it was too predictable every night.  this is def. where we're @ right now...

Can't Nellie see it?
As a fan, it is extremely frustrating how obvious our problems are, and even more frustrating is the fact that is isn't lack of talent causing our woes.

We score at will when the ball goes through a couple sets of hands until we get an open shooter or find a gap in the lane to drive in.  Try to find easy shots in the first 15 seconds of the shot clock before resigning to the tough one-on-one play!

I'm probably the only one to say it, but I've become very dissapointed with Baron's play since the end of December.  His stats cover the fact that he is taking dumb shots and not passing the rock to open players.  The team does terrible when he decides to take over the game, usually in the last quarter.  There is no excuse for a 27% three point shooter to be jacking up contested 3's when you are down by 3 or 4 in the last few minutes of the game.  Of course, Nellie can't critisize him because then he really won't show up.

the problem begins and ends with defense.
While there are more than a few instances of problems with poor shot selection, in general, offense hasn't been the problem.  The Warriors are among the top teams in adjusted fg% and in the top half in points per shot.  The difference here indicates that they don'd do as good a job of gettign to the line as they could, but for most of the season, they've found ways to be an efficient scoring team.

What they have not been able to do is stop the other team, in large part because they cannot secure rebounds.  The Warriors have the worst defensive rebounding percentage in the league.  While they're not a great defensive team in terms of fg%, they're not terrible.  But even if you hold your opponents to 40% from the floor, if you give up second and third chance shots with regularity, you're negating your defensive effort.

Recently, they replaced many minutes in their rotation with two guys who are not particularly efficient scorers and are particularly poor rebounders.  The results are more or less what you'd expect.
