If I have to say "this is a must win situation" one more time then I'm going to puke. But guess what ... this is a must win situation! 1.5 games out of 8th place, sitting right behind the Kings, and tonight we play the Portland Trailblazers (formerly known as the Jail Blazers). We are pretty pathetic on the road and sometimes it makes me wish I could use profanity on this blog. But, if we don't take care of business against poor teams like the Blazers, then we really have no shot at the playoffs. What's even worse, our friends at BlazersEdge and I have a little wager for tonight's game. Nothing serious but if the Warriors lose, I have to write a little poem about how great their blog is. Now since GSoM is probably the greatest ... ahem ... blog in the world, the Blazers Edge fellow really doesn't have to dig too far when he loses the bet. On the other hand, given how poorly the Warriors did on their midterms (the recent 5 game road trip) I'm going to need the help of our GSoM fans! It's going to be difficult to praise BlazersEdge and since my poetry never really worked with the ladies, I'll be shocked if it works here. Here’s a little preview of what I got:

That's horrible but I'm not worried. I mean come on, it's the Blazers. Have we lost to them in past 10 years? I'm shocked they have 20 wins already this season. I was positive they would have tanked it by now and earlier I thought they were going to tie for worst record OF ALL TIME. This is going to be easier than our November victory against the Blazers because we have everyone back healthy. I'll even give the blazers blog a 4 point handicap =). Can anyone beat my poem so far?

Now for those of you who won't get the chance to see the game because it's on FSN plus, then you can enjoy the new Korean movie "The Host" by Bong Joon-Ho. This has nothing to do with tonight's game yet a great opportunity to broaden your horizon with foreign films. Plus this movie looks fantastic!

Vegas Odds: Blazers by 1 (as of 10:25 am PST)
Predictions:
*    Warriors by 12.
*    JRich goes off for 30+.
*    Blazers try to convince they are not bad boys anymore so offer flowers to the refs in second quarter.
*    Ellis and Baron make Roy and Jack look like fools.
*    Jackson and Harrington post better numbers the Dunleavy and Murph tonight.

I don't think the Blazers are very good either, but if the W's have the same attitude you have for the Blazers, it will be Warriors versus the Lebron-less Cavaliers all over again. We've won the past three games because the addition of Baron has provided the leadership needed to beat teams they SHOULD beat and maintain that intensity for the entire 48 minutes. If they do that, this should be an easy W. But how many times this season have the Warriors had easy wins. If you are a true Warrior fan (not saying you aren't), you'd know you cannot take anything for granted.

This IS a must win. Every game not involving a team with Nash, Duncan, or Nowitski is a MUST win. They must take care of business at home, and they MUST succeed in winnable games on the road. I for one am happy that we are still even talking about playoffs in March. I did give up on this team after their last Laker loss, but Baron has given me new hope. I'm cautiously optimistic, but at least it's optimistic. I've just had my heart broken too many freaking times.

On a side note, this has become a superb sports blog. I wish I was living up in the Bay so I could go to the Wizards game with y'all (livin' in Laker territory; ugh, the humanity!). As an avid A's fan, I'm seeing GSoM living up to those standards of athleticsnation.com. Must be a Oaktown thang. Go GSoM. Go W's in Portland!

The Blazers

Shouldn't they be tanking it? Or maybe Blazers and tanking is the same. They have no chance at the playoffs. They have a better chance at Oden than the 8th spot. Just go away silly team.

They were more fun as the JailBlazers. I miss Rasheed. Where's the craziness? I went to Portland for 3 days, and I nearly went crazy. Imagine having to be there for an entire NBA season! You'd do some crazy stuff too.

But seriously, they have a nice core group of players there with Zach Randolph, Brandon Roy, and Jarret Jack. Roy is going to be a stud and if you combine him and Randolph, that's a nice inside-outside combo.

need to be on fsn + and not the warriors. Now that the warriors are in the playoff hunt, fsn bay area should change the remaining warriors games on fsn + to fsnbayarea and change the sharks games to fsn +.

Mavs are overrated

Not they're not a great team, but I'd put them in a group with Suns, Spurs, and Rockets. They're not head-and-shoulders above any of them.

Actually, with Yao back, my dark horse this year is Houston. They have the best 1-2 punch (better than Dallas') and play the toughest D in the West. Games tend to slow down in the playoffs, which should favor them, too.

Finals: Houston over Chicago in 4.

Fantasy Junkie and I were in Portland a few years back for a conference and caught a Warriors vs Blazers game. I have to say- very nice arena and good fans.

it was a pretty neat place in the early 90s

Portland as a hoops town I mean. Everybody seemed to watch the Blazers, and even housewives would yell things like "come on, you know Barkley can't drive to his left!"

They never seemed to recover though from MJ destroying Drexler in the finals that year.

Has anyone seen "The Host" yet?

Our local video store (in Tokyo) was playing it a couple of weeks ago, and it looked awesome. I didn't rent it, unfortunately, 'cos it was in Korean with Japanese subtitles (my Japanese isn't bad, but not good enough to read subtitles whizzing by every two seconds). Then again, maybe with a movie like that maybe you don't need subtitles.

So, new line of discussion for this thread, since the game is looking a litle iffy:

My favorite action/horror movie is...

I'll say John Carpenter's 1982 "The Thing." Not really my favorite, but I just saw it last night for the first time in 20-odd years, and was reminded how great it was.

frankly since hes been here ive found no reason to defend him. I think he had one good game where he scored plus 20, but other than that he hasnt been what has been advertised.

I dont expect him to score or rebound a lot, but I do expect him to play smart and make the occasional mid range jumper. He turns the ball over way to much... especially when hes pressured before half court.

The weird thing

is that the other teams near us are losing too. Looks like no one wants the 8th spot? If we luck into the playoffs and everyone is magically healty we might surprise some folks?
