Around SBN: Knicks Beat Lakers With Familiar Strategy

OPEN THREAD: Game #67- Warriors vs Timberwolves - BEAT THE TIMBERKITTENS!

Warriors (W-L): 30-36

Timberwolves (W-L): 28-35

Time: 7:30pm PST

TV: FSN+

Radio: KNBR 680

Can you believe it's been nearly 4 days since the Dubs shocked the world and steamrolled the Mavs? Enough celebrating and clowning around- time to get back to bidness!

Tonight the Warriors square off against India's finest Kevin Garnett and the Minnesnowta Timberkittens in Oakland. I know it's getting played out, but... THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT GAME OF THE SEASON.

In their only matchup of the season, the Timberwolves embarrassed the BoomRich-less Warriors in Minnesnowta 121-93. It was very, very troubling. Oh well, at least Sarunas Jasikevicius had a fabulous game and that smelly monkey collected another Warrior Wonder award. This game is very winnable however. The Wolves are a poor road team having lost 8 of their last 11, while the Dubs are a brilliant 23-10 at the Oracle Arena.

Keys to the game:

  • Play some defense. Last time the Warriors surrendered an embarrassing 121 points to this team even though they average below 97 points a game.
  • Rebound, rebound, rebound. The rebound totals were simply awful in the previous matchup with the Warriors getting out rebounded by 19. In particular Andris Biedrins needs to neutralize KG's glasswork. If Andris picks up silly fouls early, it's going to be a long night.
  • Under no circumstance should Mark Blount get 22 points.
  • KG's going to get his no matter what, but the Warriors need to focus on shutting down Ricky Davis and the other TWolves. Besides KG, no other Timberkitten should get over 15 points.
  • Run the Timberwolves out of the gym before the 2nd quarter even begins.
  • Priorities baby, priorities. All 12 of them.

The Race for 8th:

  • LA Paper Clips @ Charlotte BETcats (4:00pm PST): Michael- we need you to suit up tonight.
  • Sacrapmento Kings @ Miami Hot Like Fire (4:30pm PST): Come on Gary! Do it for the Bay!
  • NO/ OKC Ho-nets @ New York Knickerbockers (4:30pm PST): Ain't nuthin like a little Curry.
  • Portland Blazed @ LA Fakers (7:30pm PST): Come on Portland- make it 8!

Feel free to discuss the other games in the open thread as well. Updates are always appreciated.

Vegas Odds: Warriors by 7 (as of 9:25 am PST).

Predictions:

  • Warriors by 7.
  • Baron Davis, Jason Richardson, and Monta Ellis destroy the Timberkittens' backcourt.
  • Jax brings some stellar D.
  • KG gets his usual 20-10.
  • Danville product Mark Madsen gets wild applause from the hometown crowd... okay, maybe not.

Make sure to give us your predictions in the comments before tip off and post any comments you have during the game right here.

man
for some reason, Minny is a tough game for us. Hopefully we put it together and take them out. it helps that we are at home, where we are excellent

TIMBERKITTENS!?
Shouldn't that be TIMBERPUPPIES?

by Ace Fury on Mar 16, 2007 10:26 AM PDT reply actions

hahaha
timberpuppies :)

ricky davis is so streaky but seems to go off on US... at least he did last time.  S-Jax should be able to slow him down tonight. And like you mentioned KG will get his, but can't let the other scrubs have career nights against us.

by sluggah316 on Mar 16, 2007 10:56 AM PDT reply actions

This is the most important one to date...
Minnesota just very well be in the thick of the 8th playoff spot.   Since we only play them three times... we need to win the next two against them to get the tie breaker incase we end up with the same record.  Come on PLEASE!  DON'T LET US DOWN!

by mightymadskillz on Mar 16, 2007 11:04 AM PDT reply actions

Every game
is the most important game of the season. Until we pull away or we (god forbid) pull out of the playoff race, every game is like this.

You'll be back.

I'm playing...
I'm gonna play devils advocate. This game really isn't that important. We wouldn't be out of the race if we lost, and they'd still be in it if we won. It's important, but it's not the MUY IMPORTANTE DEL MOSTO like you guys are all making it out to be.

Playoffs in '07, baby!

by coma @ Golden State Of Mind on Mar 16, 2007 12:53 PM PDT reply actions

Don't forget
If it comes down to a tie between the Warriors and TWolves record-wise for the 8th spot, tonight's game could potentially be the deciding factor. The Warriors and Wolves play each other 3 times this year and Minny has already won the 1st game.

by Atma Brother ONE on Mar 16, 2007 1:07 PM PDT up reply actions

Oh.
All of the sudden that makes this game a lot more important in my eyeballs... NOT! Hahah zing. I still don't think that this game is that important, and here's why: I don't think the Timberpoops can keep beating good teams. ;)

Dubs by 400.

alright
time to gain some separation baby. the clips are as terrible as we are on the road, and with baron on the floor we should have this game wrapped up. let's do it!

by AJC3317 on Mar 16, 2007 12:54 PM PDT reply actions

we got dis
if kg is the only one doing damage (unless he scores like 70 pts) then we'll be fine.  We got a healthy squad and we got to make sure ricky davis doesnt get hot from 3 like he did last time when the torched us.  Go warriors!

by djchuckdeez on Mar 16, 2007 1:02 PM PDT reply actions

EVERY GAME IS...
IMPORTANT!  Keep in mind people that there are only 16 games left!  There's no time for "damn...we lost one we should have won, but we'll get them next time!"

This IS a game we need to win!  But it is especially important because of...

  1. The tie-breaker factor (which the Twolves currently own at 1-0)
  2. A Twolves win I think propels them into 8th by fractions
  3. Just because some people might think that the Twolves won't be able to beat the good teams, it doesn't necessarily mean that we will either, or even the bad teams for that matter!
  4. Lastly, I just really have to emphasize that there are only 16 games left and a win/loss against a division or conference rival, just as NELLIE said it at the WARRIORS SEASON TICKET HOLDER PARTY, is twice as important.  A win gives you a win, while it gives the other team a loss!
That's separation we will need for the stretch run!  Let's not kid ourselves that we can afford to lose a game here or there!  How about just to be safe, let's go out there and win the games we're supposed to w/ this being the first one of many!

Who knows...maybe the other teams will fall and we'll get in by default!  Oh well, as long as we make it baby!

GO WARRIORS!!!

"If you build around them...they will come!"

Playoffs in '07, baby!

by coma @ Golden State Of Mind on Mar 16, 2007 1:59 PM PDT up reply actions

another reason why its important
we only have 8 or so home games left, and this one is against a sub .500 team. We will have much tougher games against San Antonio and Utah etc. 9/16 against .500+ teams, so lets take advantage of the Home again against a bad team, after being rested for 3 days. Can't lose this, especially after the morale boosting win against Dallas.

by sluggah316 on Mar 16, 2007 2:11 PM PDT reply actions

Box out
Let's get this win!

I agree with the fact that KG will get his. That's a given against any team in the league. But like others have said, we need to shut down Ricky Davis as well as box out Mark Blount. We really need to keep their role players and 2nd options out of the game. We can't overlook the scoring of Randy Foye either.

I'm sure if we come with same intensity on defense and sense of urgency like we did against Dallas, we'll be able to force a lot of turnovers from their backcourt. Like any other game, though, it'll probably come down to us against the officials. I'm sure the Oracle will let the refs know once those questionable calls come into play. Let's hope they drop that habit of deciding the game for us.

GO GSW!

SORRY COMA...
around here you're someBODY!  No offense though, I actually said "some people" so my posting wouldn't be strictly directed towards you, but others that might feel that way as well.

Regardless, whether we like to use reverse psychology and think they'll lose, but hope for a win, we just want them to WIN!!!

i was at the oracle tonight. with 1.3 secs left, barnes threw a QB pass to monta passed midcourt over 2 defenders and ELLIS TO THE RIM for the finger roll with a trailing KG right after him.

i was at the game
and noticed that too.. i think his knee was bothering him. he pulled up lame on a breakaway that he should have dunked, but dished out instead. also, he was stretching out on the ground while on the bench instead of sitting down and i noticed him stretching out his leg when he was checking in at the scorer's table. but in the 2nd half he looked better, pulling down a strong rebound and moving better.

I'm lovin' J-Rich's game right now
His shot selection leaves room for improvement but look at the rest

6 rebounds
2 steals
8 assists

J-Rich is the heart and soul of this team and will do whatever the team needs him to do. When they needed him to be the top scorer, he did it, now they need an all around glue guy and he's doing it. His value has to be going up but I can't see how it makes sense to EVER get rid of him. I want him to retire as a Warrior.

Let's get that win tomorrow!

We need this W. (we've heard that before). But this is a game that we're supposed to win. (heard that one, too). Let's just keep that Playoff ball rolling and keep up the intensity.

Had fun at the game tonight. We don't have LeBron, but we're all Witnesses to MONTA!

*and my "lucky shoes" are still UNDEFEATED!

GO GSW!!
