Recap: Warriors 99, Sonics 98 - Luck of the Baron!

Final Boxscore

My apologies for the tardiness of this recap. I was in no mood nor capable to write this last night. It would have looked something like this ...

Confused? Exactly!

Man what an amazing game! The luck of St. Patrick's Day really came in handy for us and it was all from our leader ... Baron Davis. If you were out partying and didn't get a chance to see it, just scroll down and read the amazing commentary from our game thread. Watching the highlights doesn't give it justice, but lets just quickly recap what transpired the last minute of the game shall we? Since I was not able to witness the beauty of Baron's amazing last second game winning shot, I've decided to request the help of our GSoM community members who so eloquently put it. Enjoy the show:

With ten seconds remaining the Warriors tied the game but fouled Rashard Lewis on the very next play. He missed the first free throw but makes the second:

there it is!!!
at the worst down by 1, lets do this!!!! - FoyledAgain

98-97. we need a score - goldenchild
ahhh.
I can't take this!, my heart is beating so fast - chili01
Cmon w's
get a good inbound play for the win!!! - machinecog

With time running down we put the ball in Baron's hand. All warrior players screen to the side to give him room to attack the basket. You could see the Sonics wanted to double team him but Baron caught on early, double steps to the right catching the defenders committing and pulls a SWEET CROSSOVER to the left ... wide open for the shot with 2.3 seconds remaining ...

baron!!
did i call it? - VonteegoCummings
YESSSSSSSSSSS!
baron with the cluth jumper! - goldenchild
YEAHHHHHHH
YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH YEAHHHHHHHHH YEAHHHHHH OH MY SO AWESOME YEAHHHH BARON JUST LIKE LAST YEAR, WOW THIS GAME WAS REALLY ON LUCK YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHH  - 24k state fan since 87

Omg
WE WINNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WE WON ON THE ROAD!!!!! DOUBLE AH!!! - allthatjazz

It wasn't over though. Warriors lead by one with 2.3 seconds remaining but we needed the stop. As if he couldn't have been even more heroic, Baron does it on the other side of the court. He swings to the inbound pass, gets his hand in front of Wilkins and makes him miss as the buzzer sounded.

an... I just got done celebrating with my dad!
WHOOOOOOOOOOO!  Huge CLUTCH shot by Baron and GREAT D giving the last shot to Damien Wilkins!!!  Man... my throat hurts from yelling!!! - mightmadskillz
This may be cliché
but I think this is a warriors team of destiny. - Skip

Do you feel the excitement from the fans? I sure do and I can't wait to see some of you this coming Friday. This is what it's all about.

UPDATE VIDEO: Thanks to Monta Monta for posting!

Man have I forgotten how good Baron is!! He's amazing and like Barnett said, it seems as though Baron's nickname as the "Boss" really has come true. It's no wonder that the Warriors can't win without Baron because when he plays they have an extra spring in their step.

What I also love the most is the camaraderie this team is showing. You could see it in the chest bumps at the end of the game, you can hear it from Barnett and the announcers, and you can feel the energy this team now brings since everyone is healthy. Just like in football, the team that gets hot at the end of the year, can do a lot of damage in the playoffs.

I agree ... these kids are legit!

Warriors are now in 8th spot and have won 6 of their last 7 all because Baron and the rest are healthy. We needed this win badly because our next five games are against Utah, Wiz, Lakers, Spurs, and Suns. With the Clippers half a game behind us it will be imperative to keep this momentum going.

Other highlights from the game came from Harrington with a nice 20 point night and Biedrins pulling down 18 boards. Ray Allen and Rashard Lewis from the Sonics had their usual 25 and 23 points, but our defense overall was able to hold the Sonics to only 41% shooting.

Do I really need to say who this is? Baron shot 50% for the night and ended with 19 points, 4 assists, 4 steals and two amazing plays on each end of the court to win the game for us.

Wow YaoButta
That was a very clever way of breaking down the final moments of the game, I like it!  Good job on the recap, you're forgiven for the tardiness lol.

Baron is amazing though, not lucky.

You know I noticed that last night, members of my family came together to watch the game... and when those last second shots hit, usually I'm the only one jumping up and down, I celebrate, and I turn around, and look like an idiot, cuz I'm the only one... but last night, after dancing and chest bumping my wall, I turned aronud, and my family was going just as crazy... this is it... this is the magic happening right now... Derrick Stafford can kiss my arse.

I GET IT!
This isn't a bad road team. This team is bad when they have to wear their away jerseys.

The Dubs need to figure out a way to wear their home jerseys on the road.

With the starting 5--- UNDEFEATED.

Werd.
To be fair, I didn't really notice Seattle come back. I just looked up and they were kind of there. They got A LOT of help from the refs last night, as well. I don't know why or how this game wasn't put to rest in the 3rd quarter.

Playoffs in '07, baby!

by coma @ Golden State Of Mind on Mar 18, 2007 11:47 AM PDT up reply actions

huh
why were the Dubs in home whites anyways?  It's not like Seattle was wearing throwbacks.

by dirrty on Mar 18, 2007 9:20 PM PDT up reply actions

I think because ...
it was St. Patrick's Day and they wanted to sport their greens. thats all I can really think as to why we wore home jerseys.

Great recap
What an incredible win last night. I wish my family was like yours GSDubz. I was jumping around and yelling clutch! for like 5 minutes while the rest of my family was just sitting around. Baron is the epitome of clutch.

ok ok ok
exciting finish, congrats baron, luck of the irish etc. but this game, apart from the final 5 seconds was terrible. we had a 15 point lead at halftime!some of the worst decsision making ive ever seen by our club, like when mp2 just threw it behind a running jax after the board. on offense that was one of the orst outings ive ever seen. 95% of the offensive possesion went like this:
  1. slowly dribble the ball down the court.
  2. pass to someone in the corner and then walk the opposite direction
  3. watch as they attempt to beat a triple team and throw up a fadeaway jumper with no other options.
we were very lucky to get a win tonight and its only because we were playing a team that still has a legit shot for oden-durant.

ya the officiating was bad, in fact it was one of the worst ive ever seen and surprised it wasnt mentioned, but we could have easily played throught it if we played fundamentally sound basketball, which we didnt

the good/bad about being a warriors fan: bad: 13 years...nuff said good: there GSoM

Thank you
That 3rd quarter in particular was PAINFUL to watch.

But when it comes to the Warriors, a win is a win. We can't be too picky.

by Atma Brother ONE on Mar 18, 2007 12:34 PM PDT up reply actions

yeah
it was an awful horrendous ugly third. But hey, i'm proud that we pulled it off. If it was any other road game, we would have lossed by 20+, crashed and burned. I guess like what Al said, it was "a test of their character".

What a game...
My bad on the huge delay for this game...but man, that was great!! I had to TIVO it cause I worked late.

Big ups to the GSoM people for this site...for real. My work disabled the internet for us because we were abusing the usage of it. Then, by the time I get home, I try to spend as much time with my wife as I can, so Im not able to get on this site as much as I used to...but seriouslly...this has been one of the funnest sites to visit that I have been to in a long time. Keep it up, cause even though I cant get on as much to type...Im always reading.

GO W'S!!!

yay
yay im part of the recap! ha i wish i can watch a exciting warrior game while i play pick up games because the hops i get while jumping from the excitment is crazy its like im jrich or monta lol. but even though i wish i dont have to be jumping like that because warriors gotta do what baron said play the 3rd qtr with more urgency. we gotta be bored from a blowout we have and not from a last second shot. i know its good basketball to watch but its to much of a luck game when its like this in the end.

Go dubs!
That game was crazy, 2nd quarter rocking, then 3rd quarter not so cool, then 4th quarter BARON. Ain't nothing but a BD thang.

JRICH SIGHTING...
Man, that game last night was the SH*bleep*T!  I was going out to party that night, but I knew my night wouldn't have gone as good if the W's lost against the SUBSONICS, after leading for most of the game!

After that shot by BARON, and the final play, me and my boy were ecstatic!  I had a good feeling about partying that night!

I hit up 181 in the CITY and it was paaaaacked!!!  Great crowd, really mixed, for those that haven't gone!  We didn't make the guestlist, but one of my girls from HOUSTON hooked it up!  To make a long story short, I didn't get any numbers, but JRICH ended up at the club after he got in to SFO from Seattle.

What a trip!  I guess he couldn't contain his feeling of being on a high, so he decided to hit up the club!  I got to say "wassup" to him, shake his hand and congratulate him on a great game!  He's a cool dood that posed to take pix and acknowledged everyone that said wassup to him!  A real class act!  Last thing I told him before he left was "Good luck w/ the rest of the games!"

It was a good night and a great game!

GO WARRIORS!!!
