OPEN THREAD: Game #70 - Warriors vs Wizards - GSoM Night, 350 People Strong!

Warriors (W-L): 32-37
Wizards (W-L): 37-29
Time: 7:30pm PST
TV: FSN Bay Area
Radio: KNBR 680

Finally, after a month of selling tickets, the day has finally come, GSoM Night at The Oracle. The community came together in a big way (Oliver Miller big!) and purchased an amazing 350+ tickets. 350! I don't have the final count yet, but from the looks of things it'll get above 350. Wow. Thank you very much everyone. It's going to be crazy at the Oracle tonight with a near sellout and 350 members of the GSoM family at the game. I know a lot of us will be at the game, but many of you will be watching on tv, listening on the radio, or following over the internet. For those who couldn't make it, we all wish you were here at the game with us. You can still make it a great night by leaving comments in this open thread. You never know, we might just get on tv!

Remember the last time we faced the Wizards? The refs, Nellie, Arenas, 3 free throws, 0.1 seconds left? It all amounted to a 106-107 loss. It was a game we could have won, but we didn't. Let's move on and show thee Wizards that they cannot come onto our home court and beat us.

Look for a big game tonight

Jackson bounces back
Caron Butler is out for the game and the Warriors need to take advantage. He can basically do it all, defend, rebound, pass, and score. With him out, this should open things up for Stephen Jackson to use his passing ability to keep the offense flowing. The Warriors preview says Antawn Jamison will be guarding him, so Jackson should be able to do whatever he wants on the perimeter. He can beat Jamison off the dribble and create for himself and others. He could have a real nice all around game.

Arenas in the good 'ol days

Hibachi!
Whenever you play the Wizards you have to worry about Gilbert Arenas. In his career against the Warriors, he's averaging 27 points, 4.6 boards, and 6 assists. Those are some nice numbers. So Baron will have his hands full trying to guard Arenas and keep him under control. But it goes the same way too. Baron can take over a game too. What Baron has to be careful of is trying to do too much. We all know Arenas will get his 25+ points and carry the team, but Baron needs to not get in a 1 on 1 battle with Arenas. I don't think he will, but he's got to play smart and keep the offense moving and the defense solid.

One of my favorites...
Also, one of my favorite former Warriors returns, Antawn Jamison. He's putting up nice numbers this year at around 20 points and 8 boards per game. It'll be fun to see him back in Oakland. He always seemed like a down to earth guy who worked hard and just found ways to score. He has the little push shot that he just floats over the top of guys. He's developed his 3 point game and perimeter shooting overall. He's a much more refined scorer and over the years has proved he can be a consistent scorer night in and night out. His defense was never that good and having not watched too many Wizard games I don't know if he's become better, but at best, he's probably an average defender. I don't think he has the quickness to stay in front of any of the Warriors tonight.

DEFENSE!
Defense will be the key as it'll be tough to outscore this team by trading buckets. They are 2nd in the league in scoring so you know they can fill it up. The Warriors defense of late has been much improved so it'll be nice to see if that can carry over to tonight. I don't have to say this is a big game because every game from here on out is big. The Warriors need to take care of home court just like they have all season.

I'll see you at the game!

Vegas Odds: Warriors by 5.5 (as of 10:20 am PST)
Predictions:

  • Warriors by 10
  • Monta bounces back in a big way
  • Stephen Jackson posts a near triple-double.
  • GSoM gets on TV!
350 strong at the game. Get loud!!

Don't forget to pick up your free FSN Baron Davis poster before the shootaround or before the game.

WOOHOOO!!!!!
I can't wait!!!!!!  Although if Baron plays at the level he's capable of, I kind of would like to see a baron v arenas battle take place for a while...:)

Have fun
to bad the ticket package didnt include round trip airfare, or i would be there.maybe next year
i heard this morning that Butler is making the trip, but is questionable for the game tonight

by azw on Mar 23, 2007 11:53 AM PDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

He didn't make the trip
So you don't have to worry about them.

And Fantasy Junkie, you are kind on the subject of Jamison's defense.  That is one hell of a backhanded compliment.

Enjoy the game everyone.

Sincerely,
The enemy

haha
I must be tired because you confused me, I thought you were talking about Butler the NCAA team. I was thinking "what the...? they HAVE to play tonight, they can't be questionable." maybe I should take a nap before the game tonight...

Warriors by 11
It's gonna be a fun, fast paced game for GSoM Night at The Oracle.

Predictions

  • Arenas gets 30+ points, Jamison drops 25+ (make sure to show these two fine Washington Warriors some luv)
  • The Warrior starting five do some big thangs and Monta/MP2/Barnes all have nice games off the bench.
  • GSoM rocks the house 350 deep!
  • GSoM is LOUD!
  • We all have a great time out!
Remember, the Warriors have NEVER lost on GSoM Night. THROW UP THAT W!

See you all tonight!

by Atma Brother ONE on Mar 23, 2007 12:14 PM PDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Have fun!
Should be a good game -- and the W's should win.  I'll be there in spirit.  Great job on massing the fans together for this.

by johnl on Mar 23, 2007 12:38 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

any chance you'll be doing this GSoM night again
these last home games this season?

Anyway, here are my predictions:

GA goes for 27 pts, 6 assts
'Tawn goes for 19 pts and 7 rebs
BD goes for 22 pts and 13 assts
JR scores 32 pts, 4 assts and 7 rebs

And the real Ws win this 112-107

Also, can anyone hold up a sign that reads "Wish you were here MANUTEs BOLs"???

1st game of the year
This will be my first Warriors game of the year.  I usually get mini plans every year, but didn't shell out the cash this year.  This will also be my first time rollin solo to the Arena.  Although my older sis will be in attendance in the luxury boxes.  I'm excited for the game and to represent with the fans of GSOM, not to mention the pregame shootaround..See yall there!

Wow...
350! Thats crazy. I wish i could be there but i have to work. I will catch the game on my DVR and i want to see you guys rockin the oracle tonight. Great job organizing this. I hope you make a habbit of planning these type of events.

Baron v. Gilbert
Baron's gonna need to keep his cool and not try to match Gilbert play-for-play. He can do it, but hopefully he doesn't exert himself to the point of injury. Baron in the lineup, if only for 20-25 minutes, is our best bet at getting into the playoffs.

Baron playing time
As you guys might have read today... Baron is playing almost full time again! Thank God because the Warriors were only playing well when he was on the court. I´m really feeling something different and strange about todays game. I dont know... But I really think this will be DA game of the year. Lets do this Warriors!! Good luck everyone!

That guy's pretty good
even though there was a report of him getting robbed outside a Bay Area movie theater or something, he probably doesn't hate the team that let him go out there and score 20+ a night for almost half a decade.

ok
baron gets knocked down and no call. how many times have we seen that reversed and have a warrior get a foul on them. the refs suck already

by AJC3317 on Mar 23, 2007 7:45 PM PDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

honestly
I like the no-call just cuz the Warriors still had the ball so it keeps the flow of the game going... but ya you're probably right the way we've been getting calls lately

Holy crow
Thanks guys for the comments. I'm obviously not at the game but I also can't follow the TV broadcast due to NCAAs and children.

Jax ejected? Makes me think of the Chron story when someone (Nellie?) referenced taking the good with the bad. I seriously would be happy to take less ejections. We NEED him, dangit.

Be a drinsch!

Jax must've used one of those forbidden words
because when he got his second tech he was just standing there waiting for the guy to shoot a ft. Jax's history also gives him a shorter fuse with some refs, like Sheed and Rodman

Halftime
I agree! We gotta play defense, but hey guys... I dont think the Wizards are going to stay hot for 48 minutes. I like our chances, I think the Warriors will come off the locker room fired up. Hopefully Baron will guide us to a huge victory. We´re playing well too, we´re shotting 56%, the thing is... They are killing us with the rebounds... 23-12. Just 12 rebounds in a half is just not good at all. Lets see what happens...

That was a ridiculously
good game. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time, especially after watching Monta put up some AMAZING shots on Arenas. It gets me thinking, "Crap, Gil's gonna go off on us any minute..." Lo and behold, he can't miss in the fourth. Baron picked a helluva time to put together a gem. Absolutely dominant.

And before this gets overlooked because of Baron's brilliance: Andris Biedrins was HUGE. 24pts 12rbs 5assts, 10-14fgs, 4-4fts. Who needs KG?!? Andris the Amazing, Baby!

Knew on they way to the game, that the warriors were going it's Baron. Knew it had to be a good omen.

was suppose to say:
Knew on the way to the game the warriors were going to win. Stuck in traffic, looked next to us and it was Baron. We knew it had to be a good omen.

Didnt want him to go look at this idiot
or distract him to much.
He seemed really deep in to a story, makin hand motions and all.
Soon as he saw the 66th exit he punched it and took off.
It was around 5:20

Biedrins played 45 minutes
What an effort put forth by him and Baron.  Damn, TMN, only 1 rebound all game?  Good to see Baron bitching him out for the lack of effort.  Way too many long rebounds not fought for.  We need to have a nose for the ball, not just swipe at it.  We need Baby Al to work the glass when he's not scoring.  Is he still hurt?

hell yea
what a game that was. B Diddy or the "Boss" pulled it off after he got fouled by songalia he went off. LET'S GO WARRIORS!!!!!

omg
the oracle was CRAZY!!! It was prob louder tahn the mavs game. We had a blimp, some substantially more durable balloons & the best fans of the league. I didn't get to sit with gsom, but man you guys were hella loud too. This is such an awesome game to lose your voice to. (I'll prob regret that a few days later). But MAN, W = home sweet home.

Guh
I hate being so far away from my Warriors. I'm jealous of anyone who could be at the game or watch it tonight. I saw The Hills Have Eyes 2 here on the east coast instead, and I'd trade it in a heartbeat for 10 minutes of the Warriors game. Can't wait for school to get out in a month to get back home for the playoffs.

by jonathan on Mar 23, 2007 11:40 PM PDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

As a side note
I wonder if Mavs playoff tickets would be outrageously expensive. Otherwise, it's only a 3-4 hour drive to Dallas!

by Zorgon on Mar 23, 2007 11:43 PM PDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

OMG
What a game. We in the GSOM Section were killing it. Halftime was crazy when they started throwing out all the thundersticks and tshirts. Must've been like 100 shirts given out even though not one was close to me. And boy I think those thundersticks definitely made us go on that run in the beginning of the second half. We was killin' it. Greatest game I have ever been to. Sucks that the Clippers won though.

And is YaoButtaMing a girl?????

Whoh
He...ahem...she...is? Whoh! That's new!

i dunno
But I'm pretty sure I do know who your thinkin of.

by Athletix Man on Mar 24, 2007 12:03 AM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

IDK
It might have just been a girl walking around with the GSOM guys and wearing a GSOM Shirt but it would explain why there is no picture shown.

by DaAzNJRiCh on Mar 24, 2007 12:07 AM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

The girl...
Haha. That is my girlfriend. YaoButtaMing is a guy and was in the front row of the section getting loud down there.

I didn't see the whole game
I only saw the last quarter and it was GREAT!

by chili01 on Mar 23, 2007 11:59 PM PDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

btw
was the GSoM section showed during the game or half?

by chili01 on Mar 24, 2007 12:02 AM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

in the 2nd
and 4th they were shown.

by Zorgon on Mar 24, 2007 12:11 AM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

o yea it might've been Suns Gossip
And sorry Zorgon. I was a little too caught up in the game to start a We Want Foyle chant. And they really showed us on tv??? They never show us rowdy second level people. Did you watch the Warriors broadcast or the Wizards? And does anyone have the tape of us?

by DaAzNJRiCh on Mar 24, 2007 12:16 AM PDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Eh....
It wasn't blowouty enough to warrant a chant anyway.

That was the most fun I've had in a while
Great way to kick off Spring Break I would say.
I would agree those "Bam Bams" made a big difference. My voice should be normal by the end of the week. What a game!

by racsan on Mar 24, 2007 12:32 AM PDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

WOW!
That was an INCREDIBLE game!

Oh, and make no mistake, the GSoM section was unequivocally the loudest section in that entire arena!

Thank you to all of you to came out; it was amazing meeting so many people that frequent the site!

Anther shout out to all of you readers who couldn't join us. We hope to have many more nights like this for you in the future.

After tonight, I can honestly say that the Warriors truly have the one of the best fan bases in all of the NBA.

I still can't hear properly!

Damn
Was that much fun really legal!?!

That was definitely off the chain last nite.  The game, the crowd, the win... awesome!  I was up in section 230 but my section was definitely full of energy too with guys and gals that really knew their hoops and their Warriors.  I swear i thought the ceiling was gonna come down on all of us coz the "O" was rockin like Elvis on crank.

P.S.  I was really disappointed with SJax last nite.  It's becoming painfully obvious that he's a certified hot-head.  But other than that it was a fun-filled nite.

GO WARRIORS!!!

by ssmokinjoe on Mar 24, 2007 1:48 AM PDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

about sjax
So was it him that really said somethin for the 2nd T or was it Monta. Cause Ellis was trying to take the blame for it. Just wondering if it was to save a teammate or the ref did really get ot wrong.

by Athletix Man on Mar 24, 2007 1:50 AM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Heard on the radio...
a fan called in and said that he was sitting courtside.  He heard Jax say to the ref, "I'll meet you in the parking lot after the game"  or something like that.  The host said that if that's true then Jax could face multiple games suspension for issuing a threat to an official.

by ssmokinjoe on Mar 24, 2007 1:56 AM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Maybe
That was what got this reaction from Ellis. It looks like a look of ohh damn, you did not just say that to him.

Wizards jinxed themselves
They lined up with all there backs to the U.S. flag during the national anthem. One player turned around towards the flag cause I Guess he actually saw where it was and got yelled at to turn around like the rest of the team.

by Athletix Man on Mar 24, 2007 1:54 AM PDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

The jinx
Might have been that one player facing the flag...

WAY TO GO!
Yeah GSOM!!!  Keep up the streak.  Your season-long faith and consistency is starting to pay off and the dubs are picking up momentum.  It's going to be a tough race, but with a Golden State of Mind, the dubs can do it!

So what happened to Harrington?  When Rich, Baron, Ellis and Biedrins are dominating does he play a secondary role?  Was he still a significant contributor?

The Warriors get no love!
Man, I go to CNNSI to check out some more info on the game.  Front page is Kobe and Lakers winning four in a row.  The Warriors game isn't even mentioned in the bullet points down the right side.

But worse, check out Jack McCallum.  I mean has that guy done no research at all?

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/writers/jack_mccallum/03/22/playoff.lookahead/index.html

"The Mavs would, of course, crush the Warriors. But Nellie will throw something interesting at his old team on the court, and, in all likelihood, off it, too."

Look, I don't know if it would be wise to bet against the Mavs in a 7-game playoff series, but the Warriors are the only team to give them any trouble all year and trouble in this case means OWNING THEM.  Thank the stars for the public nature of the internet and GSoM.  If I had to rely on those East Coast centered media conglomerates and live out here where they think the Heat are more fun to watch than any west coast team, I think I might have to become a curling fan.

by walkerp on Mar 24, 2007 5:56 AM PDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

it could be worse
Hell, at least he has us a 9 to 2 getting into the playoffs. I'll take that.

As far as him thinking the Mavs would "likely dominate us", I honestly hope that the Mavs and the media will continue to underestimate us. It will just make victory that much sweeter.

Go dubs!

Where the !@#$ are you now, Billy Owens????
