OPEN THREAD: Game #71 - Warriors @ Lakers

Warriors (W-L): 33-37

Lakers (W-L): 37-32

Time: 6:30PM PST tip off

The battle continues.

Currently half a game out of the 8 spot, the Warriors are embarking on a rough three game series. Starting tonight against the Lakers, they will continue onto the Spurs, then move onto the Suns.

This is not the schedule that one would wish for given the volatility of our playoff position. But I don't think that the time for despair is upon us just yet.

Since our team has regained its health, we have all been treated to a brand of Warriors basketball that we haven't seen all season. There's a chance to do something special here.

Tonights game is going to be all about containing Kobe. He's in the middle of a super hot streak, scoring over 50 points in his last four games. But if there's one team that's capable of breaking a streak, it's us. Just ask the Mavs!

Countering Kobe's offense and coming prepared with a little offense of our own. Containing the unnecessary 3's and taking the high percentage shots. These are the things that will give us the W tonight.

Let the games begin!

Vegas Odds: Lakers by 4.5. They are on a 4 game win streak right now and we're facing them on their home floor. Yet at the end of the day, we need this game more than them, I think we're going to be looking at a close one tonight.

GSoM Prediction: Warriors by 2.

Make sure to drop your vote for who you think will win in the Comments. If you're watching or listening near a computer, post any comments you have during the game right here.

For some LA Laker insights on the game make sure to check out the excellent Forum Blue and Gold.

LET'S DO THIS WARRIORS!!!

UPDATE: Live Box Score from Yahoo!

UPDATE 2: Warriors lose by 2. 113-115.

Stay tuned for the recap...

37-33
after tonight.

here is another example of ignorant sports writers for ya

IThe Lakers play the Golden State Warriors at the Staples Center tonight, and you know what that means: Another 50-point game for Kobe Bryant.

Guaranteed.

this is a tough one
i dont care if kobe scores 50 as long as we win.  Kobe is going to need to somebody else to get hot and hopefully if that doesn't happen we can win this game.

1 game?
Arent the Warriors down a game? I know we were down a half game starting Friday night, and the LAC beat the Jazz, while we kept up by beating the Wizarriors. Then, I believe the Clips won again on Saturday over the Wizarriors. Maybe Im wrong.

by gswrico on Mar 25, 2007 3:23 PM PDT reply actions

you're right
One game out.  Hate to see the clips heating up right now, we just have to match them.  I think if we really are a playoff team, we should win two out of the next three.  @ Fakers, vs. Spurs, vs. Suns.  Brutal stretch but it's time to make a statement - WE BELONG.

by bozaframa on Mar 25, 2007 3:53 PM PDT up reply actions

nope, you're right
we are a full game back. but after tonight we'll only be a half game back. yippee.

Warriors by 1
I'm so sick of losing to the Fakers. Let's get this W! The Bay > LA.

Keys to the game:

  • Kobe can get his as long as Marice Evans, Kwame Brown, Luke Walton, and [insert random Laker player] don't put up crazy numbers.
  • Foul trouble. In the early going especially the Warriors can't pick up ticky-tack fouls. Don't give the the refs any excuse to call those phantom fouls on #24 in the early going.
  • Control the glass. It's going to be hard, but it's crucial.
  • Push the tempo up. The Lakers can't run with the Warriors. The Dubs are just too fast and quick. DO NOT play a slowdown game with the Lakers.
  • Boom Dizzle and Monta Ellis need to dominate the Lakers at their weakest areas- point guard and containing lightening quick little men.

Ooooh, let's not forget--

End of 1st- Warriors down by 10
What an ugly, ugly 1st quarter. The Dubs are "fortunate" to only be down by 10.

Unacceptable rebounding difference:
Lakers- 16
Warriors- 3

Unacceptable shooting difference:
Lakers- 60.9%
Warriors- 36.4%

Warriors Piss ME OFF!!
These guys piss me off!!!!! Whenever we get a lead we never hold it and we cant sticking rebound the damn ball!!!! We had our chances to win the game, but this team can rebound!!!! I'm looking forward to the off season and hope they sign a rebounder cause they cant just depend on Biendris. Im sick and tired of losing on the road, lets beat SAS, PHX, and MEM. 3 possible wins to get us back in it! Ballin'

Just came from the game
I was trying my best to represent GSoM at Staples. What a heartbreaker!!!! I'm gonna have nightmares of that open three for weeks. I know if Boom Dizzle had that shot, it would have been nothin' but net, more than making up for the crappy display he showed us today.

Turning point of the game: Monta's dribble of his foot right in to the hands of a gift-wrapped three pointer, cutting the lead from a solid 8 to a precarious 5. After that, we were reminded once again of 12 years of futility. Bless Monta's heart, he was amazing in that game, but that play killed us.

Unbelievable stats of the game. There are two: 24 to 8, our edge in turnovers. The Warriors were stellar putting pressure on the Lakers all night, leading to this disparity. One would think we should have dominated this game with that stat alone, except for........63 to 33, Lakers rebounding edge. This is absolutely unacceptable; it's not like the Lakes are known for their rebounding prowess. No box outs, no hunger for the long rebound, Runi Turiaf looking like Ben Freakin' Wallace.

Goats of the game: B-diddy. Coming off one his best games of the season, this was disappointing, but we know he just never ever ever does well against the Lakers. EVen worse. S-Jax. The first two minutes were atrocious for him. He made some plays but also made too many costly mistakes and ill-advised shots. This is my first time seeing him live, and he was really a non-factor.

Great game, otherwise. As Warrior fans, we really have a lot to be proud of, I just wonder if we'll ever be able to sustain these efforts for more than just 20 games in a regular season.

Let's keep the faith. We can do this!!!!

Where the !@#$ are you now, Billy Owens????

actually zig
they really ony tried on the offenseive end. that was one of the worst rebounding efforts ive ever seen. the entire game was like beidrins was goin up against the entire persian army in 300 and no on ewas helping him. i watched harringtona nd baron and some others stand around the edge of the key and watch andres fight foor his life. and then, when AB would tip it out, they might give a little half hearted jog to the ball. i mean, lebron could have put out a better effort then that. and then on defense, they went for the steal every single time rather then stay in position, commit silly fouls and show an overall lack of effort. and even on offense, NO ONE was sharing the ball in the fourth. it was all iso ad one on one. dont even get me started on the ball handling, especially monta.

we deserved to lose this game

the good/bad about being a warriors fan: bad: 13 years...nuff said good: there GSoM

The rebounding was bad
but i thought the defense was good as we forced them to 26 turnovers.

You know that stretch when the lakers came back
in the fourth and kept falling over themselves and getting foul calls, and the Warriors kept taking it to the basket and getting whacked and no fouls were called. My little 14 yo sister was watching the game (she never watches much basketball) and she asked me: "Why are the refs so biased?" I didn't know where to begin...
