Recap: Warriors 89, Spurs 126 - Have a bowl of Kix. It helps.

For tonight's game, I decided to write two mini recaps. The first was written during the halftime break, the other one after the game. Shortly after completion of the second recap, I crawled into my bed and cried myself to sleep.

Boxscore

Spurs Warriors Basketball

An example of the mind blowing Warriors defense we saw tonight.

FIRST HALF RECAP

Ugh.

If this is how we are going to handle playoff caliber teams, I hate to say it but maybe we're better off practicing up for another year. That first half was horrendous.

Okay, it's not like we played our worst basketball ever. I mean by no means was it great, but there were a few glimmers of goodness. Yes, we haven't solved our long distance woes. Going 2 for 12 from beyond is wretched. But some of our offensive efforts were pretty inspiring. There were definitely some excellent passes and inside plays that made the Spurs' defense look like... well, ours frankly. This brings me next to my next topic.

Seventy-three points from the Spurs in the first half? 7-3?! What is this, an All Star game?! How about a little defense?! Bowen, Duncan, Parker, Finley, Ginobili... raining all over us. I know that we're supposed to be the underdogs tonight but wow! We don't have to play the part so well.

I don't like the fact that JRich and Big Al have been so quiet tonight. Going against a team of this caliber, we need everyone to be coming out full blast. I don't know what has gotten into them but if these two don't wake up in the second half, it's going to get pretty ugly in the Arena tonight.

Okay the second half is going to start soon. I'm going to get a bowl of Kix.

kix

Instant cure for the bad game blues!

UPDATE:

The third quarter just ended. San Antonio has scored 102 points. We got outscored 29 to 12. Al Harrington has 1 point on 0-5 shooting. Jason Richardson has 0 points on 0-7 shooting. We are currently 3 for 18 from beyond. The Warriors are down 36 points.

The only good thing about that quarter was my bowl of Kix. Well, at least the half of it that I didn't throw at the television.

SECOND HALF RECAP

A picture is worth a thousand words. Or in this case; expletives.

wwonder

Let's go with Monta. Not because he had an amazing game but because he pretty much played the least crappy out of all of the Warriors. Tonight was a nightmare. And it doesn't get any easier from this point on. I hope Nellie is flipping over a Gatorade cooler in the locker room right now.

Okay, I'm going to wipe the milk off of my TV screen.

the improved defense was obviously a mirage since we haven't really seen it the past few games. richardson and harrington had two of the worst games of their careers. again way too many threes for the amount that they were going down. nothing at all to take away from this game. someone better be breaking something in the locker room because this team needs a jolt, and that's sad since they currently should be fighting for their playoff lives.

There's absolutely nothing to analyze
This team didn't show up tonight. Very shameful effort.

JR's stat line:
28 min, 0 points (0-8 FG, 0-3 3pt, 0-0 FT), 0 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 turnovers, 0 steals, 0 blocks, 4 fouls

Jason had 4 times as many fouls as points- oh wait. 4 x 0 is still 0.

Al's stat line:
18 min, 1 point (0-5 FG, 0-1 3pt, 1-2 FT), 3 rebounds, 0 assists, 1 turnover, 0 steals, 0 blocks, 3 fouls

JR and Al don't deserve to start on Thursday night. Plug in Monta and Barnes/ Pietrus.

Memo to Warriors: Mike Dunleavy is not on this team anymore. There's no need to have Dunleavy stat lines polluting the box scores anymore.

This team is going nowhere with performances like this AT HOME in the middle of the biggest stretch in over a decade.

J-rich
was 2-12 the night before and 9 of those shots were 3's

What's with JR?
He's not driving.  His feet seem stuck to the floor.  He's not defending.  He's not rebounding.  His "heart" -- which we've all loved -- is nowhere in evidence.

And Al?  Hello!  Game last night.  Wake up; wake up.

Jack has also been in a funk thru the last three critical games.  Are we starting to see the dark side after a honeymoon?

Sure, it was a BTB for the W's -- but the same was true for the Spurs.   And we're supposed to be good at home.

Must be Dunleavy's fault.

JR against tough defenders
JR seems to be relegated to jump shots only when he's being checked by good defenders.  His handles aren't good enough to get by even most other 2-guards in the league and his lack of confidence in his handles shows.  If his shot isn't falling, he becomes a non-factor especially if he doesn't do the other things the team needs.

Agree. . .
But that's why a motion offense works so well: guys don't have to create their own shots against good defenders; rather, they keep moving, working off screens, and can catch and shoot or catch, drive and shoot.  Monta's learning to do that quite well; he's even setting picks from time to time.  In short, Monta tends to keep moving.  JR just looked leaden out there to me.  Probably emotionally upset at the fallout from last week's MT article effectively predicting his departure at the end of the season.

Nothing but luv for JR
But he just wasn't getting it last night. BD, Jax, Monta, and even Harrington were trying to take it to the hole. JRich was just settling for the usual, tired perimeter game.

I expect him to bounce back against the Suns, but I also predicted that he'd bounce back last night. If he doesn't finish the season off strong, I really wouldn't be too surprised if the Warriors moved him in the offseason near draft time.

fugly
i am firm believer in staying with your team to the bitter end whether it's a win or a loss, but i just couldn't take it tonight.  The W's played beyond crappy and the refs helped pile it on some more with some crappy officiating.  And that's about where our playoff chances are right now, in the CRAPPER.  So yeah, for the first time EVER, the husband and i did not stay for the entire game.  We left after the 3rd.

My Warrior Wonder was my Dippin' Dots.  I should've taken a picture.

Everyone Relax
http://www.goldenstateofmind.com/story/2007/3/25/12324/0589

That's my diary, and it predicted a win here, but if we can keep true to the schedule I set, we'd still be at 42-42. Not to mention I have us losing to the Grizzlies once by safe measure :). I also predicted a loss to the Spurs who SHOULD be in Cruise Control by then, so that could make up for now.

I predicted this win because I mis interpreted when the Spurs would go into Cruise Control. Oh well.

We basically have THREE CRUCIAL GAMES Left-

vs Phoenix
at Houston
vs Utah

We MUST win 2 out of these 3 games to stay alive.

Don't give up hope!

every game is crucial
that's how they need to be approached. especially if the clips keep playing well

I fear that was a spirit breaker
last night

Its not just that they lost its how bad they looked

still
I think there's still hope. The Clips have to play two more than we do. Considering they're coming off a long 4-5 day break, they'll be cold on Wednesday. If the Clips win 6 out of the remaining 12, we must win 8 out of our last ten. Not Impossible by any means but we really need to get it going again. Believe!

dont forget
about the hornets.  We are currently tied with them, and they could possibly sneak in.  They have dallas and san antonio the next 2 games though.

They did beat
Houston yesterday though. With TMac and Yao. That was an amazing game.

Man
I wish I could have had a TV to throw something at, cause cursing out a Yahoo boxscore is nowhere near as fulfilling.  I hate the snores with a passion, and this just made it three times as bad.  How did we let the most boring team in basketball drop 126 points, that could be the score from two of their games.  That is all just because we lost to SA, cause if i tried to express how depressed I am about dropping back in the race, Atma might have to kick me off the site for use of extreme profanity

Josh Powell
looked good yesterday in garbage time. He has some range. Nellie should give him some more playing time especially since we need another big man out there and harrington was playing like crap.

by dajrichshow on Mar 27, 2007 5:05 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

know what i knew this was coming
this game to me looked like a loss. i know it sounds bad but the warriors are looking bad.  like the 6 game loosing streak bad. J rich yeah he had 0 pts but when i was watching it seemed like they didnt want to pass the ball and when he got it he was in bad positions for him to shoot. than he had bowen on him. i hope they will be ok but this is looking bad because this game had the healthy people out there. it was not a 1-2 pt loss with fight, it was just sad. oh well at least i got to see 24!
