OPEN THREAD: Game #60 - Warriors @ Wizards - P.E. is a GPA Booster

jamison-arenas-warriors.jpg

Warriors (W-L): 26-34

Washington Warriors (W-L): 32-25

Time: 10:00am PST

TV: None for the Yay

Radio: KNBR 1050

Right about now most people are just starting to get excited about how they're going to spend their Saturday night- hooping, clubbin, or maxing and relaxing. But not us hardcore Warrior fans! We're already looking forward to waking up tomorrow morning to a big ol' bowl of one of the classics (Cocoa Puffs, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, or Cookie Crisp) and a breakfast match between the Warriors and some old friends, Gilbert Arenas and Antawn Jamison.

The Warriors are in the middle of an embarrassing 5 game losing streak. There's no sugar coating it- none of the losses have been close and this team just isn't very good. They aren't even mediocre or else they'd be locked into the 7th or 8th spots in the West. I could go on about how the Warriors are just simply a bad team right now, but I think GSoM friend Tim Kawakami has you covered in that area. Actually Tim even has 10 positive things to remember as well.

Some injury updates (via Janny Hu of SFGate.com):

  • Baron Davis should be practicing by the time you read this.
  • Stephen Jackson has turf toe, not a fracture on his left big toe. This explains the Warriors' hideous 6-129875632 road record. They really struggle in stadiums with turf fields. Oh wait- never mind, that's football.
  • Matt Barnes should be back tomorrow morning or the day after for the rumble in the Auburn Hills. Don't worry DJ Fuzzy Logic will be there live in person to knock out those barbaric Pistons fans if they try anything funny. Seriously, those fools shouldn't be allowed to have an NBA team after that ugly brawl, but that's another story for another time.

Tomorrow morning's game unfortunately (or fortunately considering how painful it is to watch this team get abused on the road) won't be televised in the Bay Area unless you're a wealthy hoops fan with NBA League Pass. It's too bad since this is the first time Dub Nation will get to see Arenas, Jamison, and the rest of the Wizards. Throw in 2007 All-Star Caron Butler (imagine if the Warriors took him instead of Mike Dunnuthin) with Gilbert and 'Twan and it's easy to see why this team is pretty entertaining to watch and among the best in the Leastern Conference. Good thing we'll all get to see them up close in person at the highly-anticipated GSoM Night at The Oracle.

The Warriors have received a D+ in History, an F in Geology, and a C in Art class. Still, there's always P.E. You can only fail Physical Education class if you don't show up. There's no way the Warriors can fail tomorrow morning- oh wait...

Vegas Odds: Warriors by 8 (as of 2:55pm PST 3/3/07)-- that's Washington Warriors by 8.

Predictions:

  • Warriors continue their road "dominance" and win by 1.
  • Gilbert Arenas + Antawn Jamison + Caron Butler combine like Voltron and go for the Wilt Chamberlain.
  • Hibachi drains at least 5 treys.
  • My Cinnamon Toast Crunch tastes extra good tomorrow morning.

Make sure to give us your predictions in the comments before tip off and post any comments you have during the game right here.

* Also make sure to head on over to SBNation Hoops brother site Bullets Forever and tell Pradamaster his blog should be renamed Washington Warriors Forever.

Let's win this one for Wendell, Bob and Quienno!

UPDATE: If you have digital cable or HD you can check out the game on NBATV!

UPDATE 2: Live Box Score from Yahoo!

UPDATE 3: Warriors lose 104-106 on some bizarre officiating.

Stay tuned for the recap...

Arenas hits at least 5 trees?
Are you kidding me.
The last 6 games he is like 10-100 from 3 point line.

by Jacque on Mar 3, 2007 4:15 PM PST reply actions

Yes BUT
You forgot who he's playing tomorrow morning.

by Atma Brother ONE on Mar 3, 2007 4:23 PM PST up reply actions

IT IS ON TV ATMA
The game is on NBA TV, anyone with a digital cable box from comcast gets NBA TV, you don't have to have league pass to get it.  Also, if you subscribe to HD, it will be on INHD channel 719.

In the past
When a game wasn't televised locally, but was on NBATV it was blacked out. Are things different for this game?

by Atma Brother ONE on Mar 3, 2007 4:50 PM PST up reply actions

nope
that's when it was on league pass, its blacked out.

nba tv is the official nba channel, they wouldn't do that since they're the ones that enforce the local rules.

Hope you're right
I've had games Warriors games blacked out on NBATV/INHD when it wasn't on local TV in the past.

by Atma Brother ONE on Mar 3, 2007 9:56 PM PST up reply actions

That makes no sense
Why would you block a team that you own on a channel that you own in an area where their own local affiliate is not broadcasting?   If it was on NBATV and ALSO Fox Sports Bay Area, then I could understand why you would block it so as not to compete with the local Warriors station, however, having said this, if you goto washingtonwizards.com, you'll notice that even though the game is broadcasted on their local channel, their website also acknowledges that it's on NBA TV.  The error is probably just on Warriors.com, where you probably got the info, so it's not a big deal, just think it would be unfortunate for Warrior fans that come on your site and look at the thread to think they can't watch the game.

Chill man
I'm glad it's on TV. Too bad you need digital cable or HD to get it.

In the past I've seen games like this blacked out. Good thing it's different today.

by Atma Brother ONE on Mar 4, 2007 10:35 AM PST up reply actions

Atma, I've been chillin'
Once in a while you just gotta admit when you're wrong bro.  They have never blacked out NBA TV games unless it also was on Fox Sports bro, you probably just remembered it wrong, so it's not your fault.

No big deal, just wanted to try to let you know cuz I would hate for fans to miss this game against our former Warriors! lol.

The blackouts
I've actually seen games blacked out for the very same situation we're in today. Good thing it's not blacked out today.

We always appreciate your help, but don't think for a second that we don't correct mistakes. Again, Warriors.com said No TV.

by Atma Brother ONE on Mar 4, 2007 11:06 AM PST up reply actions

Bro,
You post a lot of things on here that aren't available on Warriors.com. The reason they might not is because they are affiliated with Fox Sports, so perhaps they weren't sure or were instructed not to.

Is your affiliation with Fox Sports what caused you to not look into the tv listing?  It was clearly listed on the cocmast listings.  I am a little irritated by this whole thing because of the fact that I was not able to post a diary this morning in reference to the airing of the game.  How can you explain that?

It ain't EASY, stoppin' TOO EASY

by gsdubz on Mar 4, 2007 11:10 AM PST up reply actions

Sounds like
GSDubz needs to cool his jets, and Atma needs to let GSDubz post diaries again.

by Zorgon on Mar 4, 2007 11:12 AM PST up reply actions

Check it out
I looked at Warriors.com which said No TV. In the past I've actually seen Comcast list a Warriors game on NBATV when it wasn't televised locally, but then have it blacked out.
http://www.nba.com/warriors/news/preview_030407.html

As for the inability to post a diary- that's really strange man. Sorry about that, but that's probably a backend SBNation issue which we don't have much control over. I have no idea what's the issue there. What exactly happens when you try to post a diary? We'll try to figure it out.

Enjoy the game!

by Atma Brother ONE on Mar 4, 2007 11:28 AM PST up reply actions

OK
so my conspiracy that you are out to get me is not true?  LOL, cuz I posted a diary two times, and it didn't show up, but seconds later, tadams tried posting it for me, and it went through.  I dunno, I'll need a lot of evidence to disprove this theory.

Very strange
Do you have the Hide Entry option selected?

by Atma Brother ONE on Mar 4, 2007 12:45 PM PST up reply actions

atma's right
I have league pass. He's right that it blocks out local games that would be on NBAtv; I live in San Antonio and this happens to Spurs games all the time. It's probably being shown because the game isn't being shown locally

by gsw4life on Mar 4, 2007 10:55 AM PST up reply actions

READ MY POST DUDE
They NEVER block an NBA TV game if it's not on in your local community.  That's the only statement I have made so far, you're being persuaded by some very good rhetoric.

It ain't EASY, stoppin' TOO EASY

by gsdubz on Mar 4, 2007 10:57 AM PST up reply actions

I was just stating that if a game's being
televised locally that they block it out on both league pass and nba tv. I dunno about when they don't televise locally because every Spurs game is televised.
More Hardware Coming!

by gsw4life on Mar 4, 2007 11:00 AM PST up reply actions

no you were wrong
you said atma is right?  but he was wrong.  he said that the game won't be televised today b/c nba tv's been blacked out.  but i said no, they only black out nba tv if your local affiliate is already broadcasting the game to protect the local network.  however, when no one is showing it, then of course nba tv will be available.

that's all i have ever said, and he was wrong, and you were wrong for saying he wasn't wrong! lol.

next time READ THINGS THROUGH instead of just saying something to say something man.  it can mislead people on VITAL information.

i didnt read your posts
I got here late and didn't really read everything since I'm more interested in watching the game than being 100% sure whatever I post is accurate on this board. I apologize for titling my post Atma's right, I didn't realize he was arguing with you. All I knew was that he said that he thought games like this have been blacked out on nbatv in the past, and I meant in that regard that he was right

Yup.
Here is a posting of our Midterm Schedule:

Chicago - Geology
New York - Art
Washington - Sign Language
Detroit - Calculus

Maybe the warriors are doing this poorly because they are poorly prepared for their midterms as they've been going to the wrong classes all year.

you really think those refs should get fired? hell, i believe the league will give them a big fat raise for those 2 stupid, anti-Warriors calls.

did you watch the game?
if you did, i dont know why you wouldnt agree with me. haha but good call, it seems like everyone in the association hates the warriors, so the refs probably will get a raise.

by BDistheBoss on Mar 4, 2007 1:00 PM PST up reply actions

yes, i saw game
i have NBA LP...The NBA officials have been hating on the Warriors...because today's officials have continued handing the Ws another loss, they will get a raise.

by MANUTEs BOLs on Mar 4, 2007 1:43 PM PST up reply actions

i hope no one blames
nellie... it really isnt his fault.  we should of won or we should of lost by 30..  its more the ref's fault that influenced the outcome of this game.  trust me, david stern is gonna have a word to say about today's outcome.

the dubs just wasted
28 points, 10 rebounds and 8 assists from JR, 20 points and 7 assists form Monta, 13 points and 15 rebounds from dris and 25 points and 13 rebounds from AL. the effort gets an A, but the refs get an F- infinite. dumbass refs.

they're probably already getting Tommy Nunez ready to justify the refs calls on that "you make the call" pro-ref propaganda show

by ssmokinjoe on Mar 4, 2007 12:58 PM PST reply actions

Nelson
Say what you want about the call, but the idea of having a veteran coach is that he does the right thing in a bad situation.  Nelson didn't.  At the end of the day it's his fault.

by clem @ Golden State Of Mind on Mar 4, 2007 12:59 PM PST reply actions

your right about
the veteran coach...  nellie took the blame for the whole season!!!!  but the outcome of this game was due to poor officiating and not nellies lack of professionalism.

Now this is funny.
First here's the play from yahoo:

How here is the article from CBS Sportsline:

With Washington trailing 106-104 with 2.9 seconds remaining, Arenas caught an inbounds pass near the top of the key and drove to the basket. The horn sounded before Arenas released a shot, but the officials ruled that Golden State's Al Harrington fouled Arenas with time left on the clock.

UMM what????

Cbsportsline keeps getting better:
They no longer blame Al Harrington
With Washington trailing 106-104 with 2.9 seconds to go, Arenas caught an inbounds pass near the top of the key and drove to the basket. The horn sounded before Arenas released a shot, but the officials ruled that Golden State's Andris Biedrins fouled Arenas with time left on the clock.

Al's play...
The last TO by Al was a real killer though.  What was he doing not protecting the ball as he was dribbling up the other way??  What was he looking at?

WTF...BS
According to the Yahoo! picture even if there was a foul, the lights around the backboard is red already....Man, losing teams don't get respects. sigh!  superstar foul!!!

We got screwed ...
Nellie was supposed to add wins not subtract them ... I like Nellie for now, but if I (#24 HOF) were the coach; the Golden State Warriors would play some defense!

... and do much better at the charity stripe ...

Quote of the Day
Thanks Arenas:
From yahoo:
"It was bizarre," Arenas said. "You've got to thank the refs for that one."

by Athletix Man on Mar 4, 2007 3:29 PM PST reply actions

I like Al speakin his mind:
From Yahoo also:
"It's just unfortunate that the refs made a very, very, very bad call," Al Harrington said. "I don't know if I'm going to get fined for that, but that was just an awful call. Pretty much I really don't mind the (personal) foul, because if it's a foul and he makes two free throws, we're playing an extra five minutes. But the technical was just ridiculous because now you just take the game completely away from us."

by Athletix Man on Mar 4, 2007 3:30 PM PST reply actions

Insteresting Nellie comments
From Yahoo:
Why, specifically, Nelson was called for the technical was up for debate after the game. Nelson said the refs told him he was whistled for being out on the court. Several Wizards, however, said they heard Nelson use profanity when addressing the officials
"Eddie was on the floor, as well," Nelson said, referring to the Wizards coach. "If they give me one, they have to give him one.
"It's unfortunate a game has to end that way, but I think the league will be very disappointed in this game the way it ended when they review the plays," he added. "Really, that's all I have to say about it."

by Athletix Man on Mar 4, 2007 3:32 PM PST reply actions

interesting
props to Al Harrington for speakin his mind. I love the Arenas quote, where he thanks the officials for the win. Hopefully this game will be reviewed and people will see that it was a bad call

this is what I sent the league
I love the NBA and all. But this anti-Warriors officiating has gotten way too old. I've been following the Warriors since 1980 and most of the calls (especially ticky tack calls) have been against the Warriors. Can you please stop it with the hating and order the referees to start making fair calls from now on? Stop it with the superstar calls. These "superstars" will still be able to score and they'll still be marketable. It's like watching WWE/WWF where it's so scripted. Stop it already DAMNIT.

Please do the same if you have time. We need to let the league know we want fair calls...no more superstar calls!

Tough, Tough Loss, but Detroit Tomorrow.
I wish AL missed his second free throw with less than 3 seconds remaining and the Warriors probably would've pulled this one out.

I mean the way the Warriors have been playing on the road, what's there to lose?

I'm still steamed about the loss, but we got to put it aside and get ready for Detroit tomorrow as the guys said.
