OPEN THREAD: Game # 62 - Nuggets @ Warriors - Time To Find Out The Truth....

nuggs.jpeg

Warriors (W-L): 27-35

Nuggets (W-L): 28-29

Time: 7:30PM PST tip off

Home at last. After failing our midterms out on the road for the past 5 games, the Dubs return to the Arena tonight for a showdown against AI and the Nuggets.

The good news is that Carmelo Anthony will be out tonight due to the birth of his first kid. (Way to knock her up at the right time Melo!) In addition, we will be taking to the floor with a pretty healthy squad tonight. Baron and Jax are back in business to compliment JRich's presence. It made a difference against Detroit, a team that we were all sure that we were going to lose to. It can make a difference tonight.

We have so little to cling to anymore. With our record getting worse and worse and the playoffs getting further and further away from our reach, our last flicker of hope is that this team can actually stay healthy and display the style of ball we saw against the Detroit.

What is the truth about the Warriors? Is this team a threat or a throw-away?

We've been waiting 60 games for this team to come out and play. Let's hope that they are capable of everything we think are.

Vegas Odds: Golden State by 6. Unless I'm reading this wrong, it looks like Vegas has faith! That or the blowout at the Palace recalibrated some stats. Either way...

GSoM Prediction:I smell a win in the Arena tonight. A healthy team at home has got to be a win. If not... well, I don't have to tell you what that means. Warriors up at the half and run away with it in the fourth. Dubs win by 8.

Make sure to drop your vote for who you think will win in the Comments. If you're watching or listening near a computer, post any comments you have during the game right here.

LET'S DO THIS WARRIORS!!!

UPDATE: Live Box Score from Yahoo!

UPDATE 2:

Warriors Win!! 110-96

Stay tuned for the Recap!

ok
forget the pack, we just need a playoff push. A real playoff push, like winning some games in a row. This is a chance to beat teams in the bottom of our division and get back in this race. I see us winning tonight. We are confident now with all of our pieces back, and we have to be focused and go out there and win.

No Carmelo is good?
I thought that the Nuggest haven't been playing that great w/both of them on the floor together?  'Melo absolutey kills us..i'll stop asking questions.

What is the truth about the Warriors?
"Is this team a threat or a throw-away?"

The truth is we have to work to hard for the wins.  We need a little cushion so we are not so pathetic when someone is hurt. As long as we play smallball we'll be injury prone and erratic. We need to trade guards for quality bigs.

by Skeptic con Urquell on Mar 7, 2007 1:57 PM PST reply actions

NO MELO...
not necessarily NOT GOOD, but then again they don't have JR SMITH either!  He torched us last time off the bench!

My prediction:

  1. BARON puts the glove on A.I.
  2. JRICH goes for 27pts., 8 rebs., 3 blks.
  3. JAX still has a mug only his mother could love, but goes for 21 pts., 10 rebs., 5 asts.
  4. BIEDRINS controls the paint
  5. An easy W for the W's

make or break.
I really feel like this is the most important game of the season thus far.  They are coming off an extremely convincing win at Detroit, and have their starting 5 together for only the second time.  If they lose, they're another game out of the playoffs, and another game towards the end of the season, and, especially if the lose by a bit, they will prove that they are much too inconsistent to make a late season run.  If they can pull of a strong win, they give us hope that the team has found it's rhythm, and can finish the season on a surge.

my predictions:
-Closish game, the warriors generally up 4-6, pull away in the last few minutes.
-Both teams in 95-115 range.
-J-Rich, Baron & Monta all 20+
-Biedrins and Reggie Evans bothe 12+ rebounding.
-AI scores a lot but shoots way too much. 30 points looks good until you realize he did it on 10-30 shooting.
-Warriors by 12 or 14

back on board
thought i lost it for a while but go dubs!

my wish list for tonight
-monta breaks some ankles
-old school Diddy to Rich OOP!
-some camby containment
-a W
-red rider bb gun with a compass in the stock

by redape on Mar 7, 2007 4:03 PM PST reply actions

NO SMITH...
either!  He played last night, but he's not going to make the trip out to the BAY for tonight's game.
In denverpost.com 3/7/07:

Smith said he wouldn't make the trip to Oakland, Calif., for tonight's game against Golden State because of potential knee swelling on the plane. But he does plan on returning to action full time Friday against the Detroit Pistons at the Pepsi Center.

GO WARRIORS!!!

by scottiepimppen on Mar 7, 2007 4:50 PM PST reply actions

Going to the game tonight.
Should be a big crowd for AI.  Hopefully there's more Warrior fans there.  We'll pull this one off though.  Go DUBZ!!!

by maybenextyear on Mar 7, 2007 4:53 PM PST reply actions

We'll score 110+
The problem is, the Nuggets like to score even more when they play us.

Also, this is just of the top of my head, but it seems like every time a team is missing one of their main players, we end up loosing.

We lost when:
-Cavs were missing Lebron
-Sonics were missing Ray Allen
-Lakers were missing Kobe
-Jazz missing Boozer
I'm sure there were some others too, but yeah.

Now after all the negative things have been said...

Lets hope this full Dub Team is the team we've all been hoping and expecting to see, at least for 2 games in a row.

at 5 seconds, you don't hang around at half court like Monta did. Bad descision making.

Anyway, in order to get back to .500 games like this are crucial, and the 3 pt lead doesn't have me discouraged.

16 points in the 1st quarter.

Again, I don't care if he goes for 100 as long as the Warriors win. Actually I will care since AI's my fav player- haha, but that's another story.

well he does have a championship ring

That was nasty.

Exploit. Conquer. Destroy.

Dubs showed that they ain't no one to mess with, when healthy. I saw them take a 20 point lead with their bench in the 3rd quarter. This seem has a serious shot at an 8th seed. They MUST win these next two games though.

Back to back great games, but I can't help but question myself on how well they would have done with Sheed/Melo playing. This could be false hope.

Prove to me you are better than the teams above you, dubs.

Props to COMA for being even closer w/ his prediction, but I was off by 3 for both clubs!

My prediction was 107-93 and the final score was 110-96.  Not bad!  A win for the W's nonetheless, regardless of what the final score was or how close our predictions were!

We should be able to beat the BLAZERS on Sunday, but it's one game at a time, and they have to focus on the CLIPS on Friday!

The Nugz are like the Warriors
The Warriors are similar in play to the Denver Nuggets.  More so than the Phoenix Suns.

If the Nugz can make the POs, then we should be up there, too.  After tonight, maybe we'll end up REPLACING the Nuggets in the playoffs!

by callahan on Mar 8, 2007 6:02 AM PST reply actions

The difference
between the Nugz and us is that we're overloaded at guard, they're overloaded at forward, especially power forward.  That's why they get way more rebounds than us.

by yehyeh82 on Mar 8, 2007 9:15 AM PST up reply actions

I thought the Ws OUTREBOUNDED the Nugz...
last night.

Yup, they did (by one 50-49).  I had to check the box scores again to make sure though ;).

The Nugz have size and used it to their advantage in past meetings.  OTOH the Ws have speed and were hitting their shots and playing D.

Playing D is key to the Ws winning against the better teams and making the POs imho.  But I'm not sure if hitting their shots picks up their defense or the defense picks up their offense.  It should be the latter, but it seems more like the former.
