OPEN THREAD #79 - WARRIORS @ KINGS

Warriors (W-L): 38-40

Kings (W-L): 32-46

Time: 7:00PM PST tip off

TV: Fox Sports Bay Area Plus

Radio: 107.7 KSAN

"BEAT LA...BEAT LA...BEAT LA...!"

It was a little odd chanting that while watching the Lakers vs. Clippers game last night.  I hoped for a miracle that for some reason, both teams would lose, catapulting the Warriors into the playoffs for good.  (Un)fortuntaely, the Clippers would not be denied. More specifically, Corey Maggette (and Sam Cassell) would not let their teams lose, blowing up for a near triple double (39 pts, 8rbs, and 9asts) while withstanding a more than devasting blow to his... ya know.. his one's and two's by Andrew Bynum's Karl Malone-like knees.  Funny thing was that when TNT did a replay of that scene, the announcers seemed to show explicit concern for Maggette's injury.... until the slow-mo showed him grabbing his manhood, which they then immediately cut to a commercial break without any warning.  In my opinion, getting hit there is as important as a torn acl injury-- they both may affect your future, albeit in different ways of course.

Anyway, the race for the 8th (or even 7th) is even tighter now.  The Warriors are sort of sandwiched between the surging Clippers, the creeping on the come up Hornets (damn they're resilient!), and the titanic-like Lakers.  But lets not forget that our beloved Warriors are 12-5 since that questionable game against the Wizards (that extra win could really come in handy right now...) and have actually won a few games on the road.  As we always say at GSoM: THIS IS THE BIGGEST GAME EVER!

Really folks, it is.

Which leads us to our game tonight with our Northern California rivals.  The Sacramento Kings-- who might be without MC Ron Artest (I would love to see him go 16 bars with Tony Parker... HA!) and Brad Miller tonight-- have been pretty average at home (20-18).  Lets just hope they don't have a repeat of the last time these two met, an unexpected blow out by a reasonably subpar team.  At any rate, the Warriors need this win and Arco is still not an easy place to play in despite the Kings recent struggles.

Another interesting subtext for the game is that tonights win would give the Warriors the most wins since their last playoff season back in 1993-1994.

Vegas odds:  Even (Foxsports.com as of 6:34 am pst)

Predictions:

* Warriors creep back from 12 down in the 3rd to win by 7.
* Francisco Garcia has a "breakout" game
* Monta goes for his usual efficient 17-5-4 with two twisty lay-ups that make you say: WTF!
* Some great TMNHarrington photos.

You know who else is turtle-like?  Anyone catch "I Love New York"?  Chance, one of final suitors, called Tango, the eventual winner, "Turtle guy" and I think at times called him "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle."  That dude definitely had turtle-like qualities.

Make sure to give us your predictions in the comments before tip off and post any comments you have during the game right here.

UPDATES:

  • FSN Bay Area (the mothership channel) will cut to the Warriors game as soon as the Sharks game is over.
  • Game Preview from our friends over at Sactown Royalty. They're good folks, but let's show them who the real kings of Northern California are tonight.

UPDATE 2: Live Box Score from Yahoo!

UPDATE 3:

Warriors Win #39! 125-108

Let's see if the Blazers can put on a crazy comeback against the Clippers right now. Fakers vs Sunny Delight on ESPN- BEAT LA!

Stay tuned for the Recap!

still bitter from last night
i think warriors need to prove a point to the kings, that we are The team in northern california now. Just dont let quincy doubey and his unibrow light us up for career highs tonight and we should be fine.

Also need an assist from the Blazers tonight, that would be a huge boost for us. Im cheering for warriors and hornets making it in and both the damn LA teams getting out.

WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY!!!
why is it that everytime i have a legitimate reason to cheer on the Lakers, they f**kin lose!?!?!? i hate this feeling... it's like waking up hungover next to you gf's best friend, and then that best friend gets up and beats the lakers... (sorry that was a horrible analogy! it's early in the morning...) anyways, i feel like i've cheated on a lover, rooting for the lakers, and not only that, the clippers won. i think i'm gonna go take 7 hot showers in a row now, to wash the guilt off...

my words exactly...im at a loss for words!...my gf is a lakers fan and she didn't even wanna talk about the loss as much as i didn't...we had a kinda bad convo yesterday...=X

hahahhahah
dude, I love your interpretation on the game; I do that kind of stuff too haha.

Well, even though the Kings are playing well, they are playing their young players(Salmons, Garcia, Price and of course, K-Mart) and in my opinion they are more hungry than the vets are because they may want to prove something. Don't forget that the Kings are a different team when they're at home.  I'm not going to be underestimating any team 'cos that might come back at bite you in your gluts.

Hey the odds were NEVER even... if it's blank it doesn't mean it's even it means some sites are slow to get their info.

Vegas odds:Warriors by 4.5 baby!

Let's give them the love that Vegas is! lol

why was corey magette ever coming off the bench
the first time i saw him this year i could tell he was there best or second best player

and now when they got injuries and he gets more of a role he freakin carries the team, along with elton brand, and they play probably their best ball of the season.  damn it would have been nice to swing a trade for maggette while he was in the doghouse with the clippers.

one positive thing about last night is that the fakers lost and if they go on a losing streak, maybe they will be knocked out of the playoffs.  that would be cool.  cuz i really think the dubs and the clips both deserve this as well as i like the clips much more then the lakers.

by travisl212 on Apr 13, 2007 10:15 AM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Maggette
Gets too much respect from the refs. Hes gotta be in the top 3 in free throw attempts for the year. His whole game is put his head down like a tailback jump into somebody and get a foul. Maggettes biceps are freakin riduculous though.

Warriors by 7
Keys to the game
  • BLITZ- Getting off to a good start in the 1st is very important.
  • Attack Mike Bibby w/ BD and Monta. He's the weak point on defense.
  • Andris Biedrins needs to control the boards.
Predictions
  • JR goes for 30 points
  • Action Jackson outplays his old friend Ron Artest
  • Artest wishes he was a Warrior
  • Nellie's Warriors top Muss' Warriors 38 win total (the Arenas-JRich-Jamison-Murphy-Damp-Boykins squad)

By all means if we WIN OUT
we will MAKE the playoffs.  The lakers will lose to the suns tonight so they will be 40-40.  They either need to lose to seattle at home or kings away.  The clippers may lose to the sun away and win the rest.  Either case scenerio we will make it.  !!! GO DUBS!

a lot of things.  He said we weren't going to make the playoffs a few weeks ago (although thats kind of understandable), and he also said in a recent article that the Clippers are probably a better team than us.

NOT WORRIED...
about either of our HOME games!  The W's wouldn't want to let down their fans and they have our support 100%!  Who cares if the MAVS show up or not?!  It's not going to matter, because if we still have a shot in HELL to make the playoffs by that game, I'll bet that the fans won't let the W's lose that game!

The "BIGGEST GAME OF THE YEAR" is once again for the millionth time, is tonight!

playing against Dallas
Follow reasons why Dallas won't play all out against us:

-if they go all out and lose to us again, for the fifth straight time, do you know how bad that will make them look going into the playoffs? other coaches in the western conference would notice and that would only expose them to more negativity.

-avery johnson is a smart man. he won't risk his star players for the second to last game of the season. he is probably confident enough that they are capable of beating the warriors in a 7 game series. avery johnson is getting a lot of votes for coach of the year, i think he would want a chance to prove to the critics that his mavs can beat the warriors in the playoffs.

-nba is rigged. warriors vs mavs in the 1st round of playoffs bring more ratings, more drama. TNT knows drama. need i say more? c'mon who doesn't want to see Nellie vs Johnson. 78-74 half time score should draw some attention. it's all about the $$$ for Mr. Commissioner.

If I left out anything, feel free to add on to my list. Bottom line, Go Warriors, I believe.

Let's hope that wait is prolonged for a little bit.  This team has already passed thier highest win total since Nellie was last coaching...As long as everyone stays healthy, Dubs will be sick next season and imagine the fact that we haven't even seen the draft order yet...Do the dubs have like a 5% chance at one? (so your saying...we still have a chance!!!!)

As much as I want to watch the warriors next year.
I feel empty inside. I mean they have the potential to make the playoffs next year, but it may not be the same. The warriors may not have all of their 8 men in this current rotation. :( They may not be able to afford it. I mean especially the talks about JRich being traded because of his big contract saddens me. I'm too attached to this rotation. I guess I'm the kind of guy who likes seeing camraderies and stuff. This rotation has it, no one is selfish, and they like playing under Nelson. :( It's just not fair. I saw the articles, and they say this is the best warriors team in years. I'm just sad that this rotation may be short-lived. Say it ain't so!

On the other hand.

Go Warriors.

Forreal...
Just watching the bench rise up on every big play and Don Nelson giving everyone a high five when they reach the bench to sit down gives me a sense of pride, that im proud to be a fan of a team that enjoys thier sport at the highest level it's played...Cohen, Mully and Higgy better find a way to keep this eight man rotation together with the additions of two dope rookies or else Arenas part two is gonna happen...When someone leaves the Dubs, they magically transform into an All Star!!! Remember that one all star (warriors reunion) game...
