the rantings of a madman...

Of course I'm referring to... me. This diary rests its laurels on the idea that the playoffs are conducted within a bracket structure. If they aren't this diary is completely, as opposed to partially, pointless.

Here goes, as I see it, if the dubs can secure the 8th spot, they have a decent chance of making it to the finals. That's right, the finals. Here's why.

1) I think they have a very good chance of eliminating the Mavs.

2)Their "new improved" play has seen them destroying Phoenix, Houston, and Utah.

The "dubs in finals" scenario, IMHO, rests mainly on the Suns ability to defeat the Lakers and the Spurs (this is where the bracket structure comes into play). As it stands now, the dubs would have to beat the Mavs and then either Utah or Houston before meeting the winner of the other side of the bracket and I like our chances against the Suns.

Please, if there is no bracket structure to the playoff schedule break it to me gently...

I'm sweating the 8th spot
I don't like our chances now that the lakers have rolled over. I'm hoping "San Diego" is running on fumes tonight.

lol
Why don't you pencil us in to win the championship...we're not even in the playoffs yet!

by Yoyo on Apr 13, 2007 1:19 PM PDT reply actions

lets look at the "leastern conference"
I gotta like the dubs against the Pistons...

errrrp
the playoffs is an entirely different monster, smarty.

Playoffs in '07, baby!

I never said it wasn't
I just wanted to go on record with my rantings just in case... then you can call me an "idiot savant" if I'm even close.

he knows he knows
he called himself a madman in the title...I think he knows hes getting ahead of himself.

but does anyone know what the structure for the playoffs are? Is it highest seed faces lowest seed no matter what? Or is a bracket structure?

anyone got the info? I haven't been able to find it.

thanks!

by myron on Apr 13, 2007 1:53 PM PDT reply actions

I don't think they re-seed
Unless they've changed it recently...

The winner of #1-8 plays the winner of #4-5 in the second round. That's the way it's always been.

So our opponents, in order, would likely be the Texas trio...

  • Dallas
  • Houston (the way Utah's playing lately, they should advance pretty easily)
  • San Antonio
Good luck with that...

by Sleepy Freud on Apr 13, 2007 2:21 PM PDT up reply actions

By "decent" chance, you mean...
VERY generously:

25% chance of beating the Mavs
40% chance of beating Houston or Utah
20% chance of beating San Antonio

Wow, an 85% chance!!!! ;-)

Seriously: 25 x .4 x .2 = .02. A two percent chance, maximum. And that's being about as generous to us as humanly possible. I'd say the only realistic way that would happen would be if Dirk and Duncan both got injured.

But yeah: cart before the horse .

by Sleepy Freud on Apr 13, 2007 2:17 PM PDT reply actions

I disagree
I think the dubs head to head record against the Mavs should be given greater weight than you are giving it. Same with Utah and Houston.

And my main point was that they would need the Suns to dispatch the Spurs because I feel the dubs aren't likely to beat the Spurs in any scenario.

In my opinion the Suns present a much stiffer challenge than the Mavs, yet I think the dubs have a 50/50 chance against the Suns (which I base on their last game).

by sfhand on Apr 13, 2007 2:30 PM PDT up reply actions

50/50?
No way.

Dude, you are a madman. ;-) I'm as inspired by this team's recent play as anyone -- and I admit I have fantasized about them making a real playoff run. But if you're talking serious chances, you gotta imagine you're putting money on it. Your REAL, hard earned money -- say, a year's salary. Who are you picking, Warriors or Suns?

The Warriors' odds in Vegas will be MUCH longer than any of ones I posted. If you're that confident, why not put your money where your mouth is?

by Sleepy Freud on Apr 13, 2007 3:27 PM PDT up reply actions

I've got no problem putting up some green
if they make the playoffs. But it won't be a years salary, more like $20, and then there is the concept of odds... lets see, you were talking about a 2% chance - maximum, so you should be willing to give me at least 50:1 odds for the Western Conference Championship and 4:1 for the Mavs(you gave them a 25% chance). I'll put $20 on each if they make the 8th spot in the playoffs, you gonna turn down my $40?

by sfhand on Apr 13, 2007 5:00 PM PDT up reply actions

I have to turn down your $40
Because I love this team too much.

But if I didn't, and I had a bunch of other people putting similar bets on the Nets, Lakers, Wizards etc., I'd gladly take your money. ;-)

by Sleepy Freud on Apr 13, 2007 5:11 PM PDT up reply actions

Lol,
I understand completely... no doubt I'm a madman, but as I recall, the dubs have pulled some surprises before:

http://blogs.marinij.com/brucemacgowan/2007/03/cinderella_nba_champion_warrio.html

What really made those games exciting was the way they came from behind to beat "superior" teams.

by sfhand on Apr 13, 2007 5:37 PM PDT up reply actions

sleepy
Show me a pie chart!

But...
Every warrior fan would be lying if they said they've never dreamed of us winning it all! Although this should be lumped together with the
jessica alba/biel dream.

Kudos to the madman for actually articulating what we only dream about. And with that said let me go out on a limb and say that obama will be our next president.

by VonteegoCummings on Apr 13, 2007 4:49 PM PDT up reply actions

The real odds
1% -- Obama
1% -- Edwards
3% -- Hillary
2% -- McCain
2% -- Giuliani
91% -- The Chimp cancels the elections and declares himself Deciderer-in-Chief in perpetuity, or until we "win" the "war" on "terror" -- whichever comes first.

In other words: impeach the bastard. ;-)

by Sleepy Freud on Apr 13, 2007 4:58 PM PDT up reply actions

Now this analysis is...
much more in line with my thinking than your earlier estimates :)

by sfhand on Apr 13, 2007 5:03 PM PDT up reply actions

hahaha
i think most californians are in line with those odds!!!

ur still on that adding the fractions shit

by travisl212 on Apr 14, 2007 12:36 PM PDT up reply actions

Dude
  1. If you're talking about my presidential odds, it was a joke
  2. You have no fvcking clue what you're talking about on the question of percentages
  3. Stop pissing on other people's diaries when you have no fvcking clue what you're talking about. I'm not just speaking for myself here. I never once called you out on this board, even though 90% of what you write is totally idiotic (I mean, when I can even figure out what you're talking about).
Seriously, dude, what's your problem? If you hate me that much, don't read my fvcking comments. Now go find a dog to kick or something.

by Sleepy Freud on Apr 14, 2007 3:03 PM PDT up reply actions

i wonder what the vegas odds are
for the warriors to win the championship

if its lets say 10,000 to 1  which it probably was a few weeks ago id put 10 dollars on it

"whenever some one gives you 10,000 to 1 odds, always bet 10 bucks"

hahahaha  some guy said that on The Office hella funny

by travisl212 on Apr 18, 2007 10:36 PM PDT up reply actions

Actually
I totally agree, and I said it in my "Lets Predict the Rest of the Season!" Diary.

Warriors= NBA Chmapionship!

With his past behind him, Adonal looks toward the future, wherever it may be....

by Zorgon on Apr 13, 2007 2:40 PM PDT reply actions

Talk is cheap
Make a real bet and I'll believe you. I'd bet you myself but I love this team too much to bet against them...

by Sleepy Freud on Apr 13, 2007 3:30 PM PDT up reply actions

i'd rather be wrong
by saying they go all the way

then be right by saying they won't

by travisl212 on Apr 14, 2007 12:38 PM PDT reply actions

So you're saying
You'd rather the Warriors not go all the way than go all the way. Makes sense.

by Sleepy Freud on Apr 14, 2007 2:40 PM PDT up reply actions

D'oh
That's not actually what you were saying, is it? Sorry, Trav, my judgment was a little clouded by the fact that you keep pissing all over my comments.

I think what you're saying is you'd rather predict them to win than predict them to lose. Well, duh. Me too. But I wasn't talking about predicting, I was talking about betting. And at even odds, I'm guessing you'd rather have a million bucks riding on the Warriors not winning it all than on them winning it all. Is that safe to say?

That said, the way this team is looking lately, I think they do have serious chance of knocking off Dallas ... or really, anybody.

by Sleepy Freud on Apr 14, 2007 3:16 PM PDT up reply actions

hahaha
my bad for pissing all of your comments and i wasnt trying to do that
