Warriors too good, move to 7th and face Suns instead?

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but if we go 2-0 from here and the Lakers drop 1 game (say the final at Arco) then we'll move into 7th spot and face the Suns in Rd 1!

Can we run with the Suns, or would we prefer the Mavs in Rd 1?  We've shown that we can beat the Suns on our day, but I'd much rather us take on the Mavs in 7 games.  I don't see the Suns making the finals, but taking 4 games off them isn't going to be easy.

Who knows?  Maybe we can beat anyone given our current form?

Match up wise....
We'd be better off w/ the Mav's, the Suns however have not been playing their best basketball. Realistically, either team will be difficult in 7, but the way the Warriors have been playin, and if we can keep this rolling, I'll take the 7th Seed...some sweet justice as we gentley REMOVE the Lakers out of the Playoffs...

YES!! I'm back to rooting against the LAKERS! THIS FEELS GREAT!

HE GOT IT!!!!!!!

Meh
I'd rather see the Lakers make the playoffs than the Clippers.

Counting chickens?
If
LAL wins one game
We lose to Dallas
LAC goes 2-0

We're out of the playoffs. All those things could easily happen. Nowitzki made a comment after tonight's game about wanting to "stay sharp for the playoffs." That's not good news for us.

Let's worry about getting in before we start worrying about our preferred opponent.

NO
I already bought tickets to the Mavs, we BETTER not go to Phoenix!

Tim K summaries well
A LOT of different scenarios to think about, and like Sleepy Freud said, it could all go to hell very quickly too.  I'm not going to be able to concentrate this week.

Mavs
The W's match up well with Dallas. Dallas doesn't really have a perimeter guard who can slow down Baron and Monta, and their interior defenders are good but not great. Mavs can win with big nights from Dirk, but the W's will quickly double him and force someone else (Terry, Stack, Howard) to finish. Also, don't discount the fact that Nellie trained Avery Johnson. I'm sure there are a few tricks he didn't teach.

Meanwhile, W's have no one to guard Amare. In a 7 game series, I predict a lot of Stoudamire dunks.

I think LAL win tonight anyway. We'll see...

You guys are missing the bigger picture...
Ok sure... let's just imagine that the season ended tomorrow and we're in the playoffs. Now whether we face the Suns or the Mavs, we'd be in semi-decent shape for an upset... considering that we do match up well, although it has yet to be seen whether we can play playoff basketball or not.  Now let's just say that we do pull off the upset, would you rather see the Spurs or the Rockets/Jazz (I can't tell who's gonna make it out of that one)?  I thought so.... Let's hope that we finish off strong with big wins on Tuesday against the Mavericks and Wedensday against the Blazers and the Lakers just win the rest of their games.  Let's go 8th seed.... Let's go 8th seed!!!!!

I said let's imagine...
I am a realistic person and have been worried about this team not owning their own destiny these past week because of tiebreakers.  Now that we have a golden opportunity with the clipper loss tonight, we can create our own path to the playoffs.  Now with that being said, I'm jumping the gun with my previous comment, but only to make a point.

Point taken
It's all good. Don't mind me, I'm just a superstitious fool trying to cover our asses, jinx-wise. Carry on.

(Psssst: for what it's worth, I also have allowed my active imagination to wander to the second round, and I totally agree that the HOU/UTA winner would be a lot less imposing than the Spurs. So yes, the 8th seed is better. Now shhhh...)

I like how you said that
I'm not going to be overly bold on the Dallas game.  Whether or not we've beaten them over our several meetings; they're still the #1 team in the league, and they are not to be taken lightly.  Same w/ the game @ Portland. I guess I'm just person who's very cautious of not getting their hopes up too high, or else if there is disappointment, it would hurt more(looking forward to the infamous "Next Year" for the past decade).

I just want to make the playoffs
Honestly I couln't care less who we face. Lets just win out and make it please!!!!!!

by dallaswarrior on Apr 15, 2007 7:09 PM PDT reply actions

yeah exactly
I just want the Dubs to make the playoffs.  I think its still a bit early to be thinking of opponents.   Its been crazy so far and anything can still happen. Theres still 2 games to be played and we need to win both to guarentee a spot.

by nautica on Apr 15, 2007 7:15 PM PDT up reply actions

just win baby!
as many have already said...let's not get too caught up in who the W's would face at this point. I'm VERY nervous about the game Tuesday night. The Mavs have the #1 seed sewn up and seem to have no motivation to "bring it", but still I think pride will be a motivator for them. The W's have absolutely OWNED them the past couple of years and breaking our hearts would be pretty sweet revenge for them. Damn, this is killing me.

Let's Go Oakland! Gas, Brake, Dip.

Lakers clinched berth

by chili01 on Apr 15, 2007 9:40 PM PDT reply actions

i was thinking about this
and i would take the mavs. i just think that, despite their record, if you look at both teams player by player the mavs are not as good as the suns. as has also been said, we just seem to match up better with them. but i am firmly stuck in the camp of lets not give a sh!t who we play and just get there!!!!!

by AJC3317 on Apr 15, 2007 10:03 PM PDT reply actions

I'd be happy even if we faced the Spurs
Actually, it would be very fitting if the Warriors met with the Suns come playoff time, seeing as how they were the last team we faced in the playoffs.

Either way, a playoff berth is a playoff berth, both Dallas and Phoenix are beatable, and there's no shame losing to either of those teams considering the way they play.

Whoever marries the zeitgeist will be a widower soon.

by J-Triumf on Apr 15, 2007 11:12 PM PDT reply actions

Fortunately
If we face the Spurs, it won't be till the Western Conference Championship (or conceivably the second round, if the Lakers lose their last game and we win out).

Agreed about the poetic symmetry of a Suns matchup, though. Let's hope this time around we put up a little more of a fight...
