OPEN THREAD: Game # 81 - Mavs @ Warriors - Fate...

Warriors: (W-L): 40-40

Mavs: (W-L): 66-14

TV: FSN Bay Area

Radio: KNBR 1050

Time: 7:30PM PST tip off

It's time to make our own fate.

All of the ups and downs, all of the injuries, all of the bad calls, all of the great games, and all of the bad ones; tonight can elevate or erase them all. Tonight the Warriors have an opportunity to do something really special.

Granted, everything is still very circumstantial. We're still tied to the Clippers at the hip to some degree, but for the first time in a VERY LONG TIME, the Warriors are officially in control over their own destiny.

As we sit today and wait for the Biggest Game of The Past 12 Years against the Mavs tonight, our minds are plagued with nothing but questions. It's no secret that for some unknown reason, we own the Mavs. This will be our third and final meeting with them in this regular season, and they haven't walked away with a win yet. Consider the fact that the Mavs have the best record in the NBA with a mere 14 losses all season. In my mind that makes us quite a threat to them.

The questions linger. How is Avery going to respond to this? What exactly is he going to throw at us tonight? As a good coach, I'm sure he wants to rest his starters. But as a smart coach, I'm sure he'd rather play the Clippers than us in the first round. Questions, questions, questions...

While we tip off with the Mavericks tonight, the Clippers will already be underway with the Suns - in Phoenix. I need not tell you the combination of events that can happen as a result of these two games (see The W Column: 12 Years, 40 Wins, 40 Losses, and 2 Games).

But enough talk from us. Let's hear your predictions Warriors Nation!

Vegas Odds: Warriors by 4.5 (as of 8:30am PST). It looks like Vegas has the inside scoop on Avery's decision tonight. That or they're tired of losing money every time we play the Mavericks

GSoM Prediction: There are times when it is fitting for us here at GSoM to sit quietly and let the fans speak. Now is one of those times.

Tonight especially, make sure to drop your vote for who you think will win in the Comments. If you're watching or listening near a computer, post any comments you have during the game right here.

ON YOUR FEET WARRIORS! Tonight we fight.

UPDATE: More preview madness from around the web for tonight's BIG game...

UPDATE 2: Dirk Nowitzki, Erik Dampier, Josh Howard, and Jerry Stackhouse are all sitting this one out. Check out the preview over at SBN brother site Mavs Moneyball. Avery's a good coach.

UPDATE 3: Live Box Score from Yahoo!

UPDATE 4: The Clippers-Suns game is over on NBATV. BEAT LA! Live Box Score from Yahoo!

UPDATE 5:

Warriors Win! 111-82

The Clippers beat the Suns earlier tonight, so it all comes down to tomorrow...

Stay tuned for the Recap!

Warriors win - Clippers lose
We start scrubs against Portland so the starters can rest.

Come out big
going at the Mavs like no other, start big then keep them down, and the playoffs are no longer just that thing we havent experienced in 12 years

My prediction
Warriors win by 14.  118-104.  Got tix to the game tonight too so I'm going to try and start a NELLIE chant if it looks like we're going to win.  Is the GSoM crew going to be at the game tonight?

yup
i'll be there too. 4th game in a row. I just can't get enough! We need to have a good start, and not give them a chance. Let's go Dubs!

by tadams1080 on Apr 17, 2007 10:05 AM PDT reply actions   0 recs

1st quarter
may dictate the game...if W's come out strong and get a 15+ pt lead Avery might decide to "give up" and rest his main guys. If the game remains tight through the 1st and 2nd, well he may pull out the all the stops to get the win.
Not sure if i just predicted who will win...I guess I would like to wait until after the 1st quarter to decide :)

Let's Go Oakland! Gas, Brake, Dip.

gonna be there
going 2nite too. 4th game in a row. it'll be electric 2nite like the past few games. oracle will be ready to party hopefully after the suns and dubs win. hope we start strong and put them away early so the mavs can just rest their starters.

go w's!!!

@ work...can't focus
I am soooooo amped right now I just can't possibly focus on work. Unfortunately I have A LOT to do and I'm planning on leaving early today, of course!

I think that Avery is going to try and crush the Warriors early and that the Warriors are going to be anxious/excited/nervous and may rush things early in the first. That will lead to an early timeout by Nellie (4 mins in?) and I expect the Warriors to respond with a strong close to the first and opening of the second.

I'm worried about closing out the half and opening the third quarter with consistent energy. The Warriors have proven to be a talented, deep team recently but they still need to realize that the best teams in the league are the best because they give 48 minutes of effort every night. That third quarter against Kings nearly gave me a heart attack. If we do that against the Mavs we are cooked.

If they can withstand the Mavs (stay within 10 points) through 6 mins left in the third then I think we cruise to victory as Avery pulls Dirk, Howard and Terry for the last 18 mins.

Warriors by 9.

warrriors clinch
as we beat the mavs.. business as usual. 121 - 105. and the clippers lose big time.. because lets face it.. if they cant win at home against the kings.. they are not going to beat phoenix at home in the suns last home game of the year. Suns will want to put on a show for their fans.

Gonna be a blast.

Predictions: Close first quarter. We're going to blow it open in the second. A chant of "sweep" will start eventually.

i will be there tonight  with a few buddies and we all are honestly hoping the mav's try their hardest to win so that besides sweeping the starters for the season series, we can also show them what to expect when they come back to oakland for game 3 and 4 with an arena full of playoff crazy warrior's fans.

i heard that the game is sold out already!

My opinion. Put in Biedrins, try to halfcourt these BenchMavs. They can't be outran for some reason, so simply out talent them at their own game.

Who do you think we're gonna see first Zorg
DJ Ilunga Mbenga or The DON'al Foyle?

Whoops, Yahoo says he's out on the season with ACL surgery, so Pops Mensa-Bonsuh or Foyle?

by back2back51s on Apr 17, 2007 7:54 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

*Pops Mensah-Bonsu
Sorry, whatever happened to slightly easier names like Arvydas Sabonis?!

by back2back51s on Apr 17, 2007 7:55 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

It's a toughie
Since Nelson hates Foyle, and the Mavs have Mensah-Bonsu, Diop, Willis, and Dampier all willing to play, it may take long.

I say Mensah-Bonsu just cause he's young and they want him to gain experience. I really wanna see Kevin Willis do some Ballin though.

Hahahahah
Jose Barea is playing. As he's a Northeastern alum, I hope he does well. I don't feel bad about this because as the Mavericks are literally playing their bench, I don't think whatever he does will be too much to really hurt us. Plus he kinda sucks.

Willis: Oldest EVER in NBA
At 44, he would be the oldest player in NBA history. Robert Parish was 43 when he waved towels on the 1996-97 Bulls bench.

You've got that right. Kind of surprising, you'd think maybe some team in the 50s had a guy who was 47 who was there cause he knew the coach and was a fan favourite victory cigar (Foyle).

at least for tonight
adonal and most specially sarunas shouldnt see the light of day....

THEY WERE REALLY HORRIBLE IN THE MINNY GAME...

cant reward them with playing time...

I didn't watch that game
at the arena but Foyle had 4 rebs, a block, and an assist in 7 minutes.

Sarunas was bad, Kelenna pretty good.

3 mins left doesn't = 32 point breakdown

Good luck tomorrow
I really hope the Warriors can win tomorrow.  I hope my boy Pietrus can keep up his shooting and help the Warriors get into the playoffs.

Yes!!
Its been a while since I could say this.... one game away.  Agh Portland will be crazy.... hopefully in the good way : ).

On a side note.... Biedrins has taken a few steps back.  I just see him out there and I can tell he's ost a lot of confidence, both on the offensive and defensive side of the floor.  Its probably becuase of his reduced role, and I hope he can adjust himself....If we do hold on to this spot I think he will be one of the most important factors.  We need his rebounding and inside presence.  Dont bring back the one minute man!

Pat that dude down
Who saw Mr Jackson get searched when they annouced the starting line up? I thought that was the highlight of the game because everything else was boring...

The Best Blog!!!
I'm just visiting from the Suns Blog... brightsideofthesun.com.  Just posted a Diary about how much I'd like our site to even come close to this one:  http://www.brightsideofthesun.com/story/2007/4/18/15442/7538

My questions, to satisfy some people on our site...

  1. Are there any problems with posting pictures from around the net?  I mean, do we just put a little credit under the photo and it's all good or what?
  2. How do you guys put the embedded youtube video's in here?  I try to paste the embedded link and I get an error:
"Post Failed.

Your HTML has the following error :

    * Attribute WMODE for tag EMBED is not allowed"

It seems that you guys can do it over here.  Can anybody help me out over here?  We have no pictures, no videos, nothing!!!!

... and yes, I'm definitely hoping you guys tear up the Mavs.
