50x the TV Hoopin'
Television commercials are usually excruciatingly painful to sit through (thank god for TiVo and the hidden 30 second skip button!), but hoop ad spots are a real diamond in the rough. Jared Wade over at bothteamsplayedhard.net did the entire online hoops junkie community a big service and compiled The 50 Best NBA Commercials of All Time that are currently hosted on YouTube.
Here's some of my personal favorites in no particular order:
Slam- My old coach couldn't dunk either, but neither can I.
(Runner up in last year's SBN Sneaker Ad Bracket)
Spike and Timmy- The colors are just so 90's fresh!
Godzilla vs . Barkley- Hoops folklore has it that Charles ate Godzilla after retirement.
Darius & Q- This Nike spot made Darius Miles and Quentin Richardson look like they were the next Jordan and Pippen. Well, that didn't exactly happen. Still, this Gang Starr laced commercial is ill.
Frozen Moment- You gotta love the MJ classic,
but the Lil' Penny parody is even better. By the way, word on the street is that Lil' Penny is going to be the executive producer of a new Tyra Banks' show titled America's Next Top Hoops Flop.
Umi Says- Mos Def laced this commercial with one of the smoothest hip hop tracks of all time.
Not a Role Model- Charles ain't a Jenny Craig model either.
Gheorghe Muresan Cologne- Props to anyone who can say which classic hip hop track this line is from "I come funkin up the spot like Michael Jordan's cologne".
Fun Police- Too bad the one with Googs isn't up on YouTube- "What's so fun about that guy?"
Lil' Penny- Penny, Lil' Penny, Tyra Banks, and Chris Rock can do no wrong in these commercial spots.
What are some of your favorites from the Top 50 list on bothteamsplayedhard.net?

The first one
My favourite funny one was Dancing Gheorghe.
You can find it here.
What are you guys doing? Dancing. Mind if I join you?
Anyway, other favs are Big Slam (44), TMacs Tall Tale (42), Jugador Mas Valioso (40), Yo, Yao(33), and Nationwide Basketball Society (13). Before you ask, yes, I love Shaq, and I love him even more in commercials. I like #2, but doesn't everyone?
It's Not About The Hat (32) would be up there if I wasn't subjected to it constantly on TNT, especially during the All-Star Game.
Can I Kick It (29) has to be my least favourite, because it's not creative, a commercial at infomerical quality, and its one of about 6 Commercials on NBATV, so I see it ALL THE TIME.
A Notable left out would be the Jordans son one where he dunks in slow motion (I'm sure GSDubz simply loved how he left that one out.)
Anyway, I surely enjoyed this list, Atma. Thanks for front paging it.
A lot of them are really good
Which is pretty much like:
34. Check
Good one with KG.
33. Yo, Yao
Yo, Yao, YOOOO!
25. Frozen Moment
w/ Jordan 12's over the Penny 3's
14. Coulda Dunked...Shoulda Dunked
Look here, ... sucka.
8. Mars
2nd one for the 4's. NO!
6. Like Mike
Those Gatorade bottles look like snapple back then in glass.
3. Roswell Rayguns 2nd one w/ Snoop
Looks more like an NBA commercial though with Baron Davis, and Nash to Dirk.
I was thinking of one or two not on there but it left my mind as I saw the Knickerbocker please Fox Sports one. Heh. I'll probably remember it later.
The Taco Bell spots for
They rode those couple-double two person bikes through the park.
Shaq tilting his head to eat the doubledecker tacos was the way he could hit all his FT's from then on. Tilted his head on the line and drained them.
Freestyle FTW
I loved the Jadakiss ones, though AI definitely should've rapped more. It's a shame that he flaked out of his music deal; he was actually skilled enough to have brought some credibility to the athlete-turned-musician realm.
The Kobe "Matrix" commercial was awesome, though I could've sworn he did more in an extended version.
The Lebrons and anything with Gheorghe Muresan are also winners.
FUN FACT: My cousin was in the XXI Jordan commercial. She's the girl wearing #2 trying to block a shot.
