OPEN THREAD: Game #77 - Warriors @ Spurs
Warriors (W-L): 37-39
Spurs (W-L): 54-21
Time: 5:00PM PST tip off
Six Games Left. One game back.
Tonight the Warriors will step up to one of the hardest challenges remaining for them in the regular season. Tonight we face San Antonio in their house.
The last time we faced the Spurs, no more than five games ago in fact, the Warriors got hideously embarrassed in a 37 point loss in the Oracle. But since then, the fire has been lit.
Since we last stepped up (if you could call it that) to Parker, Duncan and company, we've gone on a four game win streak, two of against powerhouses such as Phoenix and Houston. Make no mistake, the Warriors have been doing a monumental job of fighting to good fight.
The crew is going to have to play a solid game tonight to keep this hope alive. Careful ball handling, aggressive offense, and impeccable defense, particularly against Parker and Duncan are all going to be the key to a victory tonight.
This is our chance to do what we all know can be done.
Bay Area; get up on your feet. The Warriors are coming out to play.
Vegas Odds: Spurs favored by 10.5
GSoM Prediction: No one wants to see us in the playoffs but us Dubs fans. We may be inconsistent, but there is a threat here, and the elite teams know it. The Spurs are going to bring their A game tonight. But we all know what a game like this in a position that we are in means. Warriors by 1.
LET'S DO THIS WARRIORS!!!

i think we have a chacne
If we play our style and some solid D i don't see why we can't win this game, we have everything to lose if the Dubs think they have no chance. Warriors by 6.

Warriors by 1
The Mavs and Suns may have better records, but the San Antonio Snores are the most difficult team in the league for the Warriors. They have reeled off 19 straight against the Dubs in the At&t center. That's just one of those streaks I'll be happy to end. I'm sick of losing to the Spurs on the road.
Key to the game:
- This is going to sound strange, but force Tim Duncan to beat us. Put the clamps on Tony Paker, Manu Flopobili, Brent Barry, and even Bruce Bowen. Force the Spurs to rely on Duncan dropping 40+ to win this game. While he's still a defensive stud, I have a sneaking suspicion that Duncan's best offensive days are behind him. I don't believe he can carry a team on offense anymore. It's worth a shot.
- Backcourt, backcourt, backcourt. BD, Monta, and JRich need to flat out dominate Parker, Flopobili, etc. These guys need to play like the superior backcourt they are. Go at Parker early and see if he can rack up some early fouls. Monta needs to outquick him on defense and Baron needs to post him up and make him tired.
- Crash the boards. I thought the Warriors did an excellent job on the glass against the Rockets the other night. They're going to need to come in with that same mentality tonight. Keeping the ball alive in the air with tips is going to be instrumental with the size disadvantage.
- From the moment the Warriors lose the opening tip, they're going to need to run, run, and run. And then run some more.

Actually, agreed
This team is full of studs, so I disagree with Atma that we try to make them rely on Tim Duncan. They've been relying on him forever, and they've won championships. To me, that's like saying, "Shut down all of the Bulls but Michael Jordan."
IMO, we need to equally distribute scoring, and try to stray from the inside. Mids and 3s will decide if we win here. I know Baron is a driving machine, but Tim Duncan is a block machine.
How to stop Duncan: Same way we stopped Yao. Tim Duncan is not as tall as Yao, so they can't lob it as much to him, and if we can prevent him from getting the ball this game is ours.
Run the old guys out of the house! These guys are used to slow, half court sets. If we can keep the game fast-paced, everybody but Tony and Manu will get tired.
(God, I can't believe I just said that....)
Go Warriors!
Atma, Bro
I mean, I understand your wanting to give the team props -- the way we've been playing lately is totally inspiring. But what's past is past. Right now the fact that we went 2-0 in the previous two games, or 35-39 in the 74 games before that, is really neither here nor there. The bottom line is that we have to win this game. If we don't our chances of making the playoffs go from kinda bad to ... really bad.
Edit
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go cry in my miso soup...
I agree

Key to beating the Spurs
Sure, Duncan is their best player, but has Duncan really been our biggest threat? Remember how we still had Murphy, Murphy would match what Duncan puts up.
Duncan never had any jawdropping games against us. I don't recall a time Duncan dropped 40 on us. Maybe a few 30 point games, but it doesn't feel like Duncan kills us. It's Parker who kills us.
I do remember one game Duncan did not play against us and we still lost because we had no clue how to stop Parker. Maybe it's his quickness we can't match. Maybe he hits the open J when we back off him. Maybe he gets other players involved like Bowen when we try to collapse on him. Parker has had some of his best games against the Warriors.
Stop Tony Parker!
