We've had celebrities attend the games.  We've also had an R&B sensation sing possibly the sexist rendition of the national anthem ever.  We've also got some hatin' sports critics finally showin' us some love on national television.

But all that doesn't mean much unless we get that fourth win!  C'mon Warriors, LETS TURN THIS MUTHA OUT!!! (Some old-school reference for y'all pre-hyphy, pre-mobbin' Bay Area hip-hop heads.)

Tonight could be the night the Dubs finally win a playoff series! It's been more than 15 years since the last time the Warriors made it out of the first round.  And people thought Kevin Garnett's got it bad...

Last time the Warriors won a playoff series, MC Hammer was blessin' the airwaves and the country with "2 Legit 2 Quit." Maybe we should bring him back for the sake of nostalgia and goodluck?

The Warriors head to Dallas for what looks to be another grudge match.  In Game 4, the Warriors showed heart and maturity as a team, closing out a close game they probably would have lost if this was a few weeks ago.  Despite a more focused and balanced Dallas team effort, the Warriors looked undaunted, led by the "bodyguard" Baron Davis.  Like their leader, the rest of the Warriors sacrificed their bodies going for blocks, rebounds, loose balls, and charges.  The Warriors know they need another effort like this if they're going to beat the Mavs.  They didn't get 67 wins playing this bad all season.

Was this the cultural reference that Kenny Smith was using to describe Davis? If so, we know we're protected!

The Warriors will DEFINITELY have their work cut out for them playing in Dallas.  As we've noticed, home court advantage seems to create some insane blindspots in the referees' judgment (see foul disparities in all games for more details).  Pietrus finally emerged from what seemed like a month-old funk to provide some offensive, but more importantly, defensive support off the bench.  As much as Davis is able to carry the team on his back, does it also make others cringe every time he hits the deck on his fearless drives?  As much as we need him, we need others to step up.  The Warriors need more help from Monta Ellis but also TMNHarrington.  We all know that Nellie was exaggerating when he said he would go to a six man rotation, but considering how little we saw of both Monta and Harrington in game four, something tells me he will pull out any game plan necessary to get the Dubs to the next round.

Lets hope the Dubs shock the world tonight and more importantly, make Charles Barkley eat his words (what doesn't he eat?). He's already conceded publicly that the Dubs played fantastic in Game 4 and are "fun to watch."  Maybe he'll even wear a Warriors jersey?  

Vegas odds: Mavs by 9 (as of 9:15am PST)

Predictions:

  • Warriors by 1
  • Ellis becomes the most improved player of the series, going off for 18 points.
  • Biedrins plays some solid D and makes plays that are not reflected in the stat sheet.
  • Barnes, the "UCLA legend," hits three 3-pointers, finishing with a solid 12 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists.
  • Terry punches someone where it hurts the most- and people think Jax has a temper!
  • Too Short's "Blow the Whistle" is the anthem for the night.  The refs make some REALLY bad calls.

I think the Warriors will close it out tonight. All the fighting power of Dallas is knocked out of them. I dont even think there fans believe in them anymore. Yea Yea Yea, Pheonix came back from 3-1 to LA last year...but Dallas is NOT Pheonix, and OHHHHHHHHHH HELLLLLLLLL NOOOOOOO are we even close to the Lakers. The Warriors are out for blood, and I think they will come out real loose, and shots will fall all over the place.

I think Nellie is going to have the Warriors come out full on tonight.  And I think the Dubs know that tonight's game is going to be crucial. They can't let Dallas have even a finger hold.  Step on their throat!  Stay focused, stay composed.  Do what you've been doing.  Don't get overconfident and don't rely on the fact that you can always go back to Oakland if you lose.  Let's show the league that the kind of heart this team has.

They say everything in Texas is bigger
Game 5 is no different.  No pressure, but still the biggest game of the series.  I actually don't call this a must win game, but a "want win".  If Dallas wins tonight, the media will jump back on their bandwagon and put all the pressure on Dirk for game 6.  

Nevertheless, I'm a selfish bastard and want tonight's game...Nothing like knockin' out a 7 footer when he's on the ropes.

  Daaaam, why do the odds get worse as we win more games?  I guess vegas is going with the thought that dallas will eventually win sometime?
   Me? I'm lookin for monta and little Al to get it goin this game and push us into round two, it's a freebie,  they've got nothing to lose by letting it all hang out!  and I also hope someone picks up the Zorgon role and does us proud at big D?
 Anyone plannin to be there?

What to look for with Dallas
Nellie has to be ready for this:

First, the Mavs should trap and double BD early and often -- even using George and/or Buckner to body him up.  They haven't done this yet.  (Of course, they can't in the open court, but they dictated the slower play in the first half Sunday, and if they can do again, watch out.)

Second, now Dirk's in the position of having nothing to lose -- so expect him to go Gonzo on us.  His play has, thus far, been affected by two problems: Dallas has no low post offense and he's clearly not used to a defense that always switches.  The Mavs will likely keep running him through screens, but have him try to drive immediately -- before he can be doubled -- and either get to the basket or draw fouls.  (I expect the same re Howard -- since Dallas about gave up on driving in game four, and it hurt 'em bad.)  Look for them to try to drive on Jack to draw fouls (and get him complaining to the refs or out of the game altogether); it'll be a real test, and we'll learn a lot about Jack in the process.

Finally, Diop starting gives the Mavs the chance to dictate game speed -- and they'll try to slow it down like they did Sunday.  Nellie can't let 'em.

Nellie's counters: run, run, run, run; get someone who can hold Howard down (and run him hard so his second half exhaustion pattern continues); get AB the ball several times within the first five minutes.  Jack is the best at this -- especially off the bounce pass.  Getting AB started early usually means he plays a great all-around game.

I still expect Dallas to win tonight -- perhaps big -- but if the W's can keep it close, they've shown they're able to finish.  I like our chances if it's a nail-biter; otherwise, we'll need to win at home on Thursday.

What is wrong with Vegas?
I've tried my luck with anything related to gambling, my favorite game roulette, and i've never had any luck.  

Well the Warriors have been with me since the beginning of the playoffs, and i am now lucky.  Money on the Warriors!!!  Are you serious favored by 9, crazy.

Ooooh, I want this one- BADLY!
I'm sick of the Mavs, their fans, the Dallas sports media, and the remaining few in the national media who keep dissing the Warriors and their fans (anyone else sick of all these "thug" criticisms?). I would LUV to finish off this series IN Dallas. Embarrass them on their home court and SHOCK THE WORLD.

Keys to the game:

  • Like johnl noted above the Mavs will probably try to get Dirk going with some screens and try to get Jax in trouble. Jax has to continue step up and play smart. Let's hope Jax realizes that the Mavs realize they have no answer for him, so they're going to resort to trying to get him T-ed up.
  • Play and think like the Warriors are down 1-3. Nothing to lose. Stay hungry.
  • Watch out for Josh Howard. The Mavs foolishly didn't go to him in the 4th quarter of game 4, but I doubt they'll repeat that mistake.
  • Try to get a big lead and rest the 6 early. Monta and Al need to step up or else it's going to be tough for the 6 deep rotation to keep from getting fatigued.
  • The refs are going to call some horrendous calls. Be prepared for it. The fellas can't let it get to them.
  • Keep driving hard to the basket. The Mavs are charmin soft down low.
Predictions:
  • Warriors by 5
  • Boom Dizzle comes up big on the glass tonight
  • JRich drops 25+ points
  • No tech's for Jax tonight
  • JHo drops 30+ points
  • Devin Harris flops 5 times and gets some awful foul calls.
  • Barkley gets embarrassed on TNT.

when I saw the "Warriors by 1" prediction I got nervous, but I think warriors by 4-5 is a lot more in line with the way they are playing. This team is so focused, if either monta or al step up in this game, I know we can win it.

The Mavs are in "the danger zone" we need to come out strong, if we can get up quick we can impose our will and show them once again "the way we swing" if we can do that we will be singing the "same song" we where singin in game 3, if not it is going to be another "gutfest" like game 4.Hopefully the mavs D will tell Baron to "Doowutchyalike" and he can "shake&bake" and "carry the way", But we also need to be "flowin on the D-line"
If we do this we can reach the "higher heights of spirituality" and prove that we are more than just "freaks of the industry.

Tonight...
...is the night. I beleive that Dallas is in for the fight of their life tonight and Matt Barnes will be Game 5's hero draining 3-pointers and rebounding over Dirk (he has lift). I also agree that Monta will finally get his game on track tonight for fear of not being a factor in GS winning round 1. I am so excited today it is really hard to work, GO WARRIORS!!

I like Charles Barkley
After all of his comments and both of us going back and forth with him. I have to say... he's having good fun and he's taking it well. I was listening to a San Francisco Chronicle podcast interview with Charles and he's having fun with it all. My favorite quote was, "If I didn't answer back, if I backed down, it wouldn't have been fun. I loved it how the Warriors are playing along. Like when that warrior mascot threw a pie in my face."

this will be tough
the mavs could have very easily won game 4, but the dubs had the love of their home fans behind them to help push them to victory. they don't have that tonight, so if the mavs come out the way they did sunday and get another 9 point lead it will be very tough to come back from. hopefully game 4 pietrus will show up and not games 1-3 pietrus. i think monta will bounce back as well. i'm not expecting anything from harrington so if he does show up it will be a bonus.

The Warriors are riding this rollercoaster of confidence and frenetic energy, its amazing what they've accomplished so far! Carrying this momentum into Dallas' homecourt will hopefully be enough to finish them off in 5. B-Diddy, S-Jack, and J-Rich have been pretty solid throughout the first 4 games, but someone else has stepped up in each of the wins, the last oen being MP. Al and Monta really gotta wake up and get to work if the W's wanna make some noise in not only this series, but the next round, if they advance. I'm pullin for my boys to come thru tonight, but if not, no reason to hang our heads and look to kick the Mavs to the curb at home with the Oracle rockin!!! Go Warriors!!!!!!!

if the warriors keep it close and make it a hard fought game the Mavs will fold in the forth again. They just seem defeated to me, especially Dirk. I don't think they have the heart to come back and win three straight and i think they know that. If your not going to seal the deal why start your vacation early. On the other hand if the Mavs start out hot and the dubs can't get it going early they might start to believe. We all know how dangerous a team can be when "Dirk Believe Playoff".

Remember when the Warriors ended the Mav's 17 game winning streak and a reporter asked Josh Howard if he saw any similarities between the Dubs and the Mavs. He and Jason Terry both had a long hard laugh before answering NO, they saw No saw no similarities.

We'll hey boys, how's this for a HI-LAR-IOUS joke.

A team with the 6th best record in the history of the NBA also becomes the first 1-seed to lose to an 8-seed in a seven game series. Pretty funny Joke, eh Howard.

The punch line will be delivered at the conclusion of game 5. Can't wait for the Dirk-a-tron's MVP SPEECH. Go DUBS

i missed the opening 1 and a half qtrs....
due to coming back from work...but I made it back to see the Dubs under quite a deficit (around 10 pts).  the Dubs looked out of sync and were rattled in the beginning of the 2nd, to be honest.

BUT...

there was great compusure getting back into the game.  i'll give all the credit to the magic touch the coach nelson is doing there.  i bet he had a heart to heart with his team leaders and players and told them to just go out and play the way the Dubs know how to play.

the quickening pace the Mavs were starting ended up shooting themselves in the foot as the Dubs woke up and began playing even quicker...the frenetic style of play we love and have seen thru most of the series.

The game is far from over....don't question the heart of a Warrior!!!!!!

deficit. It was interesting because Baron wasn't on the floor and neither was Jax. Hopefully this squad stays gritty and hungry. Pietrus is just being a BEAST!!! I was really happy when Al knocked down the 3pt shot, hopefully this gives him the confidence he needs to perform better. Cmon Al, we need you now more than ever. And Monta, just control the ball! I gotta give it to Dallas though, they came out strong. We had a slow start. But I'm really proud of our guys for not giving up and fighting back from the 21-point deficit.

But we should have responded on the offensive end.  Relying too much on the jumper in the last 2 minutes.  We should have taken it to the hole, gotten the fouls.  Tough, tough loss.  Even if the Warriors weren't the opponent, I'd be sick of Dirk's soft play-to-the-foul game.

Dirk made his shots.  Hats off to him.  The Dubs made one hell of a showing tonight.  I am impressed they didn't submit to the blowout that looked possible early on.  I thought that alley oop by J-Rich was going to be the forever moment though.

Terry obviously had a pretty mean spirited look on his face and pushed Baron down. That is a form of physical violence, albeit a little one, might be comparable to throwing a punch. but Jax get's ejected for technicals that involve clapping and trying to break up a fight. if he gets suspended and Terry's incident doesn't even get sniffed at, then I'd say something fishy would be goin' on at NBA headquarters

Tough last foul call on BDiddy....BUT...
we just gotta play throught that...refs gotta let both teams play it out at the end.  It's fine to not call the Dirk foul on JRich, but ticky tack fouls like BDiddy's final call are really tough ones to swallow.

We took Dallas's best shot again and battled down to  the wire.  This just might be the best series in the entire playoff/championship in the NBA!  I'm a diehard Warriors fan, but also a pure basketball fan...and you can't ask for anything more.

Someone please explain this to me, it makes no sense.  He's standing there clapping and he gets hit with a T, perhaps a bit extreme but at least there is a precedent for it.  But then he gets thrown out inexplicably...I was stunned.  Don't you need 2 technicals to be ejected?

Not that it mattered much.  Fair play to the Mavs, they came through in the clutch.  A great game to watch.  We'll show them what it's all about back at Oracle.

I don't think DIRK won this game for the MAVS, although you can make a strong case for his 2 big 3's, even though that's what we're supposed to expect from the so-called MVP, but AVERY out-coached NELLIE tonight, at least in the end.  He doubled BARON quick and got the ball out of his hands.  NELLIE didn't have an answer.  The W's looked completely lost!

It's all good though WARRIORS NATION...I actually predicted 4-2 WARRIORS.  I would have loved for them to close it out, but I guess we'll just have to party at HOME!

If you thought that the ORACLE ARENA ROCKED in games 3 & 4, wait til game 6!

outcoach Nellie tonight...also, he had Diop guarding the the top before anyone could drive into the paint...Also, no one was stepping up to take the big shot when BD fouled out...Nellie will be able have to find some way to get BD the ball, one announcer from NBA tv said that they were double teaming early in the shot clock but would loosen up on him later on in the possesion, he said that the Dubs could have gotten the ball back into his hands with sometime left, i'm thinking if Avery is sticking with the same plan have someone else be the primary ball handler for game 2 and free up BD to take Big Shots and dominate...The Dubs took the 67 win Mavs, who finally showed up and only lost by 6...Oracle is gonna be crazy!!!

that those opportunities for an 8 seed to be up by 9 against a 67 win 1 seed with 3 minutes to go are rare occasions...not for the Dubs, they always seem to find a way to get back into the game even if they have a bad start, the only time the Mavs beat the Dubs bad in this series was when BD and Jax were ejected, other then that all the other games including game one which was in Dallas were Dubs blowouts...If the Dubs were any other 8th seed I would not believe because i know damn well that this would have been the only chance to close out this juggernaut but these Dubs can do it in any game on any court...I think the Mavs had rare occasion in that they got BD to foul out and they were able to close the game...getting BD out of the game, that doesn't happen very often...I believe! What was up with the no calls throughout the game?  MULTIPLE hacks on Baron by Terry and Diop.  Again, Harris tries to flop, even in the middle of the court; he resembles like a damn rat.  But in the end...

WHY WAS EVERYONE STANDING AROUND?!  When they were double teaming on Baron, he gives it to sjack or jrich, but everyone just stood around the perimeter.  No one helping out in the last minute. COME ON!!!

Oh my god.  I hope the fans who are going to the game on Thursday are going to rip it to the Mavs. Make it louder than Game 3 and Game 4 COMBINED.  This game was so close(20+ comeback) that it was more disappointing than if it was a blowout.

Yeah there were some things they could have done differently, like hope not to get phantom calls.
Haha whatever Dubs still have the upper hand and you know they won't let the fans down when it comes back to the Oracle. It will be complete chaos in the arena, the noise of Friday and Sunday combined.  People will be out for blood.
I would have liked them to have won tonite, so that they could shut up every Mav fan there and send them home crying, but its totally fine with me bringing it back to the Bay for the win.  It was a good game though, showed that the Mavs aren't completely worthless, and that _irk can be clutch, but MVP? No way!

This series will go down in the books as the greatest 1st round to be played. This loss will only make our victory sweeter. The story ends not with expected Giant to win, but the underdog with the most heart.

we were supposed to lose this game....relax people..relax

now this:

  1. If jackson gets suspended...someone ought to burn the NBA offices in NJ.  Because technicals or not, JACKSON left in an orderly and timely manner.  He's got 4 technicals in this series, and I don't think that warrants an automatic suspension.
  2. Not a gripe but....JRICH got fouled on that 3 point attempt.
  3. I've never addressed this before but Tom Abdenour needs to do a better job keeping his boys in tip top shape.  Barnes was limping out there and everyone else was gassed!  I remember a few instances in the season where Monta and Baron were cramping up.
Overall great game by the Ws, they showed tremendous moxie by coming back being down by 21.  Monta needs to be involved in the start of the game, as well as Al Harrington.  Look for Nellie to tweak his starting lineup Game 6.

again, watch Conan tonight, that should help.

We're the upstart underdogs with still lots of...
HUNGER and BITE!!!  There's no need to go crazy and over the edge with this game y'all...tho I respect it to the fullest cuz it shows how hungry we are for every W in Dub Nation!

The Dubs faltered in the closing minutes, but made it a heck of a game with thier comeback.  I'd take today's close loss over any blowout, as some of ya have suggested.  This game shows that we got what it takes to match up against the best the Mavs are gonna give us.  It just didn't bounce the right way in the finals seconds, but it's nothing to lose your heads over....

Same goes for BDiddy and the rest of the crew...gotta keep their heads in the game for the entire 48 mins (and then some, if it ever got to OT).  Looks like some overconfidence kicked into gear when we got that 9 point lead late in the game.  We could've kept up the pace or slowed it up..either way, we had to keep attacking the paint and flush it down their throats.  That juncture in the game, IMO, led to the close loss.

We still got GREAT chances to beat the Mavs...the battle has kicked up a notch, you think?  Game on!!!!

I have not seen the clip...
but the fan probably initiated the contact, Jrich is not the kind of person to randomly shove a fan, regardless if he was the fan of the team or not.  Nevertheless, the NBA would probably suspend him anyway, considering that Mark Cuban will try to shove it down the front office's throat.

Oh, yeah.  Remember that interference by Josh Howard on that "tip-in"?  That was a blatant call... but whatever.  It's over with.

Settle down
Look if JRich and Jax are suspended tomorrow, then we know the fix is in. If not, we're going to rage on Thursday. Yes it will be a tough game but we are a resilient team. Our crowd enough will be good for a 10+ point swing and we need to get back to the running and defense. And for God's sake, get to the rim and finish. Too many damn missed layups.

WARRIORS.
IF you would have told me yesterday the Warriors were going to be down 21 pts  at one point in this game. I would say there is no way they would come back from that. The warriors took the best punch the mav's could give them. And the warriors hit back! That says a lot about this team. Something I didn't think they had. to quote Rocky "But it ain't about how hard you hit, it is about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward, how much can you take and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done! "
so lets see how much more the mav's can take from these warriors.

I'm actually not mad that we lost, but more mad how we lost!  It was ours for the taking, but honestly, who would have expected the W's to finish off the best team of the 2006-2007 regular season on their own home court, let alone, come back from a 21 point deficit?  Just sucks that it got real ugly in the wanning seconds!

Hmmm...maybe it's one of NELLIE's mindtricks!  The W's didn't exactly look like they had the killer instinct to start the game!  But when they did, they kicked a$$!  I expect the W's to come out firing and the fans to back them up 100%!  I think NELLIE really wanted to celebrate at home!

We got this!  As I predicted...W's will win in 6...4-2!
