Davis Cleared to Play

We still have a shot Davis was cleared to play in tonights game by Stu Jackson for his hit on Fisher.

Baron Davis will be allowed to play in Game 5 of the Golden State-Utah series Tuesday night after the NBA league office decided not to suspend him for his hard hit on Derek Fisher of the Jazz in Game 4.

Foul is upgraded to Fragrant 2
NBA disciplinarian Stu Jackson upgraded the penalty against Davis to a flagrant foul, category 2, but elected not to suspend him.

Can someone explain how this works? I know a flagrant 2 is an automatic ejection in game.  But if its issued after the game is it equavalent to a technical which would count on the total Baron has accumulated?

I don't think
technicals are classified the same as flagrant fouls.

Hmm... it's probably online somewhere if you want to Google it, I would've but I'm just too lazy.

flagrant fouls and techs are different
mark stein at espn cleared up the impact of flagrant fouls on potential suspensions today.
Flagrant Penalties And Punishment

The penalties for accumulated flagrant fouls in the playoffs:

A player will receive one point for Flagrant 1 fouls and two points for Flagrant 2 fouls. If the player's point total exceeds 3 points, he will receive an automatic suspension following the game in which his point total exceeds 3 points and for each additional flagrant foul committed during the playoffs, as follows:

  • Player at 2 points commits a Flagrant 2 foul: automatic one-game suspension
  • Player at 3 or 4 points commits a Flagrant 1 foul: automatic one-game suspension
  • Player at 3 or 4 points commits a Flagrant 2 foul: automatic two-game suspension
  • Player at 5 points or more commits a Flagrant foul (1 or 2): automatic two-game suspension
San Antonio's Robert Horry now has two points and Bruce Bowen had one entering Wednesday's game. Golden State's Jason Richardson has two.

-- Marc Stein

i forgot the exact scheme for technicals but zig i think you are right, suspensions start at 7.

confirmation
kawakami breaks down the impact of the tech/flagrant situation:
If Davis gets any other flagrant foul in the playoffs, however long the Warriors' run lasts, he'll be suspended for a game. Plus, two more technicals get him suspended, too.

these penalties are confusing...
they should do it like soccer use yellow and red cards... could you see the faces of the players when refs pull out a red card in their face?? that would be funny!

anyway its do or die tonight!! go warriors!!

Foul is upgraded to Fragrant 2
I don't recall the refs calling it any kind of  foul?  Why should some desk jockey override them?

Hah...
So Bruce Bowen only has one point, and Richardson has two? That's a joke. Also, thanks to the NBA for suspending Stoudamire. Looks like Big Shot Bob is finding new ways every day to help his team win. Disgusting...

thanks to the NBA for suspending Stoudamire.
" Looks like Big Shot Bob is finding new ways every day to help his team win. Disgusting...'

Yes it is. If the Warriors and Suns get eliminated I certainly won't watch any more games this season.
These NBA executives creep me out with their meddling in the games. Changing the outcome of the playoffs with their rulings is outrageous.
