PLAYOFF OPEN THREAD: Warriors vs Jazz - The Ultimate Birthday Gift.

Warriors

It's our time.

Jazz Lead 3-1

Time: 7:30pm

TV: TNT

Radio: KNBR 1050

It seems like throughout the course of this season nothing has come to us the easy way. Hell even the postseason came to us on the final day of the regular season! We've been through some serious downs, and some serious ups.

Tonight is no different.

I don't have to tell you what tonight means. The Warriors are in a very challenging position right now. Tonight we can bring this magnificent season to a grinding halt, or we can step into Energy Solutions, dismantle the Jazz, and give Nellie the best birthday ever.

D_Nelson-760129

Not too many pictures of Nellie with a pointy birthday hat out there... Happy 67th nonetheless!

I hate to say it, but for much of Warriors Nation, complacency has set in. This could not have been more transparent at the Arena on Sunday from the energy of the crowd. Yes, we have shattered expectations for this season but acceptance for our current situation will not stand. This team has bared its heart and soul to us this year; anything less than full energy and emotion from us in this moment they need us most is unacceptable!!!

Get out tonight and watch this game among friends. Don your yellow shirts. Wave your Warrior towels. Eat that Tim and Chris (Chris and Tim) burger you've been saving in that glass case for 13 years! Our boys may be in Utah tonight, but that doesn't mean they won't hear us! (I'm assuming no one reading this is a Physics professor.)

The fat lady hasn't sung yet. She hasn't even entered the building. Ideally, the door to the building is built really small so that she can't even fit through it. Sure, her entourage will probably try to push her through it, potentially employing the use of various slippery substances such as oil and/or butter, but in the end she will not succeed. She would be forced to take the walk of shame back to her car, unable to perform said singing duties. Which begs the question, if she can't fit though a door designed for 7 foot basketball players, what kind of car exactly does she drive?! But that is for a different post...

We need our guys to come BIG tonight. I'm talking Baron dunking over AK-47 big. Limit the one on one play, box out to the best of our ability, and for the love of god make our free throws and I'm confident that there's only one lady we'll hear from tonight...

alba

Seriously though. Marry me. I will feed you grapes.

On your feet tonight. Our Warriors need us.

Make sure to give us your predictions in the comments before tip off and post any comments you have during the game right here.

UPDATE: Check out GSoM friend Tim Kawakami's post for some more pre-game thoughts: Baron’s cleared to play, Warriors look loose: I’m getting a weird feeling about Game 5

UPDATE 2: The Warriors' great season has come to an end, but it's just the beginning...

BELIEVE THAT!

Stay tuned for the Recap!

To take a page out of coma's book: Very eloquent and articulate post. I really liked how you used all capitals to convey your message. I also enjoyed the 400 unnecessary punctuation marks to emphasize what you are saying. You deserve a Nobel Prize for Literature.

Apologies if there's any confusion and this thread doesn't make any sense at all. A Jazz fan named "jazzman" left a bunch of nasty, homophobic comments. His comment and account have been deleted.

without creating another email address. unless the boys at GSOM can change it for me internally. I can be the first ever to have their TAG changed.

if one of you GS guys with controls can change my tag to WINGSTOPwarrior that would be swell.

We'll crush them...
with a nothing to lose attitude, we're going to hand them a serious loss.
  • Warriors by 16
  • Monta explodes for 28 pts, 8 ass.
  • TMNHarrington is a beast at the board, getting 16 rebounds
  • Warriors outrebounded by max. 5, but outhustle the Jazz by far
  • Okur gets 2 T's
Let's go WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRIORRRRRRRRSSSSS!!!

WE BELIEVE WIN
EVERYTHING is on the line.
  • Do you really believe these fellas aren't going to lay it all out?
  • Do you really believe the Jazz can match the intensity level of a very hungry Warriors squad?
  • Do you really believe anyone's scared of the smurf colored Jazz fans?
  • Do you really believe Boom Dizzle, JRich, Action Jackson, Barnes Baby, TMNHarrington, Ellis to the Rim, Dris, MP2, Kabuki, Citizen Foyle, Josh POWell, and Sarunas aren't going to bring it tonight?
  •  Do you really think the Dubs are going to lose in front of Paul "We Believe Playoff" Wong in Utah?
  • Do you really believe Nellie's not going to have a great BDay?
I don't.
WE BELIEVE WIN.

Win or lose we're

The streak at the end of the regular season was more difficult than this. Taking the next 3 from the Jazz can be done. Tonight: Warriors 110, Jazz 98.

i will be rocking my "we believe" shirt all day today. i will be yelling in front of my tv. i know for a fact that the dubs will fight that good fight. even if tonight is the final night of the 07 season the dubs will do us right and not go quietly. they will go down swinging. i also know for a fact that if there is a game 6, there will also be a game 7. tonight's the tough one

Nice work Hash...
Very inspiring. Hopefully Nellie can work a little of your preview into tonight's pregame speech. I'll be Don-ning my City jersey and headband at work for all the still-distraught Faker fans to relish. You guys wouldn't believe how much Warriors paraphernalia is floating around L.A. right now, especially near my offices in Westwood (Baron and Barnes fans, I assume). I'm kind of torn over the whole thing. I guess it's only fitting that the Dubs take over "The Golden State" in '07. WE BELIEVE!!

Don't see why not
All 3 losses, they were right there with just a few minutes to go; then just a couple of plays went one way that needed to go the other. No reason we can't catch a couple of breaks late in the game this time instead having those breaks go the other way.

Or we can go nuts earlier in the game and run them off the court. We all know that's possible too -- wouldn't mind seein' that of course.

I say...
-Warriors by 4 or 7 (depending on how the free-throws go), in a battle, that we seem to be slightly in control of.
-Baron and JRich bounce back big.
-Big night for SJax.
-Solid night for Monta.
-Boozer held to 20-11, thanks to good D from TMNTHarrington
-Big corner threes by Barnes and Mickael
-Biedrins 13-13.
-Only get outrebounded by 11

Throw up that W, W's!

remember, we've got nothing to lose, everything to gain!

Do you guys know how Miami won the ring last year? Bennett Salvatore took it upon himself to decide Game 6 for Miami just like how he's doing it right now.

that a flagrant, which it wasnt. Jax wouldnt have got the T. and if the ref would have called boozer pushing the back of the warrior (didnt notice who it was) under the basket when he went for that put back
Barnes wouldnt have had that called. cant really blame the refs for the outcome, but i will say that they did change the tempo of the game to favor the Jazz

warriors really didnt play their game the last 2 games. too many forced threes. too much isolations. And it may not be fully appreciated by everyone, but I think everyone here understands. As I've mentioned before, all the money I've spent on the Warriors through the years hasn't begun to pay off what they gave me this season.

Thanks guys.

I'm proud of this team
Not of the T's or the flagrant fouls. And Barnes frustrated the hell out of me especially i the 4th quarter (stupid fouls, blown layups).

But the season was a success. We're back on the basketball map. We've proven that we can play with ANYBODY on a given night.

Congrats to the Jazz (die in the next round, bitches!). D-Fish killed us with dagger after dagger. In the end, they won beause they had a deeper bench and their players were fresher in the 4th quarter. We just need to get rid of our scrubs and replace them with reliable role players who will actually play some minutes, and keep Baron and J-Rich fresh in the fourth.

I'm sad we went down in only 5 games. But overall, I can wear my Warrior jersey with pride again. Thank you for a great season. Utah, go to hell.

not to hate on Jax
because we wouldnt have even been here if not for him
BUT dont forget about the lazy inbound pass that AK stole which was pretty much the Last nail in the coffin. he really can be frustrating to watch when he jax up those long jumpers with a hand in his face, and tries to dribble too much and coughs it up I hope he can work on staying within his game (most of the time) maybe he can try some counseling, or he since he is in CA. now maybe prop. 215 would help. BD could hook him up with Snoop. that may mellow him a bit, maybe even help his jumper.

you know
I used to like him , but he has moved to the bottom of the bunch for me, Walton and stockton have both moved up a notch. I would rather listen to Dick call out wrong names and scores than listen to collin stalk about the jazz, and say every quarter how he has a feeling that they are about to make a run

would it be silly to try to find out if we could greet the team when they come home?  I know it's not like they won a ring or something, but it'd be nice to show the guys how much we've appreciated these last 3 months.

It didn't end how we wanted but they sure gave us a hell of a lot of memories.

It's been a great season
I've been a warrior fan for almost 10 years now, I just found the blog at the beginning of this season when I was looking for Warrior news while I was away from home for college. At first I just read the posts and read what you all had to say but finally decided to make an account and post with you guys around January. I went to GSOM night against the Wizards because it was, luckily, during my spring break and I found out just how wonderful all of you guys are as fans. It's been a great season and I'm glad I spent it with all of you guys.

One Love, One dub.

PS. I'll be around for the offseason, let the trade and draft talks begin!

You'll be back.

Great season. Tell me, anyone expect us to come this far? Naw. Just sad that we lost our temper like that, instead of going down in pride, we went down with a bad image. Next season, guys. We Believe.

My only regret
is that we'll be typecasted as "Thugs."  Their image wasn't sterling after round 1 and I can't imagine this series will help.  After Barnes' T, the whole Utah crowd was clammering for a foul every time they even got near a Jazz player.

by NY Warriors Fan on May 15, 2007 10:42 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Agreed
But i partly blame the exceptionally sketchy officiating on that.

by dirrty on May 15, 2007 10:50 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I agree
that the refs didn't help the situation.  I'm not saying some of the public's perceptions are not warranted, but you could clearly see that BD and Jax (and really everyone on the team in this series) have been marked men since round 1.  The minute anything looked "bad," reputations came to the forefront and the media was calling for heads rolling.  This is the problem with the NBA.  It's really the only major sports league where officials can turn the tide of a game so quickly, and multiple times at that, and perhaps the tide of public opinion.

by NY Warriors Fan on May 15, 2007 11:02 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

sadly
some of the guys did lose their cool.  But the media and even the stupid TNT announcers made things worse by blowing several plays out of proportion.  Questioning if pretty much every T or hard foul would result in a suspension basically caused any moron with no mind of their own and obviously no basketball knowledge to look at our team as dirty.  Which i find HIGHLY ironic considering that Utah is prolly one of the dirtiest teams in the L.

by dirrty on May 15, 2007 11:28 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

They can't
look at our team as dirty because we weren't the ones getting away with those "dirty" fouls.  The Dubs were letting out frustration fouls cause the freaking refs were blind ass hell this game, The refs being as blind as they were only saw the frustration fouls the Dubs let loose, granted the Dubs did let thier emotions kill thier season but it's like TNT didn't even mention that Utah was playing "kind of" dirty and getting away with "some" fouls...The other games were bad but this one was disgusting...On another note, We need to get a dude that would just molly whop "Boozer" type players in the post but could run with this team...

Memo to Mully, Rod, Cohan, etc :

Keep the team. Keep the whole team. Down to Citizen Foyle, The Notorious POB, and Just the Cabbages.

When they win 70 games in the regular season next year it'll be harder for the officials to assist some more "family-appropriate" team to beat us.

We gotta congratulated ourselves
and this team for a great year!  I am proud to be a fan of this organization and fan base.  The Dubs played with heart if nothing else and eventually that will be what will get them to win it all.  On another note Draft picks anyone?!  And also, I think Vegas is hosting the NBA summer camp this year in early July...Dubs are gonna be in it just in case you guys head out there!

by RubberDubDubs on May 15, 2007 10:47 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

What about next year?
We need someone to fill in minutes at the PG spot.  Baron just ran out of gas carrying the team and next year, he can't continue to play 35+ minutes for 82 games...his body can't take it.

We also need someone to eat up rebounds 4/5 spot.  We just don't have any presence down low.  Those guys were getting pounded all night long.

Anyhow, I hope these past 5 games taught the players they need to learn how to close out games...its very evident that we just don't know how to do it and its been a problem throughout the year.  Its easy to play with a big lead, but the Dubs need to know how to play tight games!

Anyhow, great season, great playoffs.  I can't complain.  If you told me at the beginning of the year we would lose 4 close games to utah in the 2nd round, I would have taken it...

What a ride
No doubt, we missed the threes we normally make, and that cost us. Officiating will be what it is, but they missed their share free throws.

And it's always like that, the first to act never gets caught, it's always the reactions to the fact that get seen. Utah bumped and muscled us, and the Warriors were caught trying to react.

But eh, it doesn't really matter, the Warriors have overachieved their butts off this season. We had a winning season(!), made the playoffs(!!), biggest upset in NBA history(!!!), what more could you ask for?

We believe FUTURE.

Thanks, fellas
Despite the refs completely ruining this game, and generally against the dubs, I do believe the better team won. Still, we underperformed in games 4 and 5 and it was due to lack of experience and offensive execution down the stretch.  When we saw that we didn't have the crowd with us, we were lost. We should have been executing, but Baron can't back down Deron Williams and Fisher like he could with Dallas. And that's all we had on offense.

I really enjoyed following the season with you guys. I was in a bar in Montreal, the only Warrior fan (out of 3 nba fans) until the last two minute when all these fairweather wannabes came out of nowhere.

But man, does the NBA ever need an overhaul.  As a sports entertainment product, it is terrible.  The refs basically control the tone of the game and kill any energy and action that ever builds up, while at the same time aggravating the players.  It's a nightmare.  If the Dubs weren't contenders, I'd drop it altogether.

Love to GSoM.  Thanks, everyone.

my 12 and 7 yr old daughters are now both W. fans and we all watched the games, then waited anxiously for the next one. my 12 yr old said the refs obviously liked the jazz better, my 7 yr old was upset after the game and asked that since they lost will they still be able to play basketball. i said  next season so she said well OK she thought that they wouldnt ever be able to play again.
not to mention my wife (born and raised in SLC) seemed more upset than me.

Jazz fans
K first off this is my first post here on the site, and felt compelled to post tonight.  I've been an avid reader for the past year or so and I'm really stoked about getting more involved this off-season.

Just wanna make note that I have been a loyal follower of Warriors basketball since the Eric Musselman days, back when I was in Jr. High I really became attached to the franchise and have been a proud warrior ever since living in the sad sad state of Utah.  :-(

Anyways, I just wanna say that Jazz fans are the biggest A-holes in the entire NBA.  Callin our team a bunch of "Thugs" what a joke.  Jazz were non-existent the past 4 or so years now all of a sudden they are showing up in the masses.  It's really pathetic I hope they get steamrolled in the Western Finals.  Just be grateful to all you lucky people out in the bay that you don't have to deal with these punks in SLC.  I have received at least 20+ text messages from mainly people I never knew were even basketball fans saying "How bout them Jazz?"  I just hate these fans with a passion.

Again though, it was a great season.  Hopefully this whole team is back next season but I sure wouldn't mind seeing KG.  Next year I'm gonna finally see a game in the Oracle!  I can't wait!

Go Warriors!

Thanks
Great job this season GSOM!

I just found you all this season....what a season it was.  Thanks again to Sacramento for that Sunday victory against the Clips that put us into to the playoffs.

We definitely have a lot of question marks in the offseason.  Do we give Barnes a healthy contract?  How will we dump Foyle and his contract.  What kind of draft are we gonna have?

Oh...i'm looking forward to it.

Most of all...thanks to the Warriors.  Playing their heart outs down the stretch.  Can't wait to see what kind of future we create.

Love you Dubs.  GSW for life!!!!!

Great Athletes !!! Excellent Team !!!
First off, HAPPY BIRTHDAY Nellie !!!  It's also my birthday today and I spent the whole night so stressed out since it was a do or die situation for us.  Whatever anybody wants to say about my Warriors team, they are a class act. They don't need the help of the refs to win the game.  They rely on their athleticism and pure MANPOWER !!!

Points I want the League to ponder:
   1) This should be a 5 vs 5 man game, not 5 vs 8!
   2) Investigate players that are actors on the side since they can convince the refs really well ( Check out Kirilenko's flop with Boozer at the line at the end of the game. A body tripped doesn't end up 15ft. from where he is standing ! )
   3) Review the games better so you can see how the Jazz, who claim to be a very physical team, is actually martial artists and football players who seem to think the basketball court is the same thing.
   4) Realize that the Warriors are the most exciting team in the league and would mean far better ratings and advertising and merchandise sales for the league than the boring, whining Spurs of Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobli or these unsportsmanlike and let's face it ugly karate choppers and linebackers, the balless Jazz !!!

CONGRATULATIONS WARRIORS !!! In my book, you have won this series and the championship as well for your valiant, clean effort the whole season ...

GO WARRIORS !!!!!!!!
SEE YOU NEXT YEAR !!!!!!!!

Well fought series
I know "Congratulations" isn't what you want to hear when your team has just finished the season, but the Warriors were amazing this year and you deserve to hear it from someone who is neutral when it comes to the team.

Sidenote, I'm sorry some of those Utah fans were class-less but don't think that they represented the fans as a whole.  Every team has their "bad egg" followers.

We'll see how the Jazz do in the next series.  At least if they pull off a miracle and win a title you can say that you went neck and neck with the champions. (Though thinking that far ahead is getting  WAY ahead of myself.)

GREAT RUN...
Well it was pretty good for as long as it lasted!  In some ways, I would have rather gotten beat by the MAVS, being the #1 team in the NBA, rather than the freakin JAZZ!  Since when did UTAH become like LA w/ all them actors?  Those guys are soft and play defense by flopping or samiching guys who penetrate to the basket!

I'm just really disappointed that we couldn't beat this team, when I know we're better!  I'm not going to blame the REFS, but they really took us out of our game, and the boys just blew their cool!  Can't really blame them though!

We're pretty much 1 good BIG MAN and a vet PG away from returning back to the playoffs next year!

New slogan for 07-08: LAST YEAR WE BELIEVED...THIS YEAR WE KNOW!!!

GO WARRIORS...TO THE NBA FINALS!!!

"If you build around them...they will come!"
