Rumor: Zach Randolph for Monta Ellis, Sarunas Jasikevicius, Adonal Foyle, and #18
There's no question that the 2007 NBA Draft Lottery has made the West even stronger and the Leastern Conference even Leaster, if you will. With superstar prospects Greg Oden and Kevin Durant most likely heading to Portland and Seattle, the Blazers and Sonics will probably be making some moves to ensure that they put Oden and Durant in great positions to succeed.

Are the Warriors just the break that Zach Randolph needs?
pic via Blog 8 Sports
Dave Del Grande of Inside Bay Area sees the possibility of a Zach Randolph to the Warriors trade as a feasible scenario:
Some will say the Warriors were among the biggest losers Tuesday because their competition for the bottom-end playoff spots in the West got tougher with Portland and Seattle landing the top two draft picks.
While that's true, the Warriors might have caught a break with the Trail Blazers winning the Greg Oden sweepstakes. Suddenly, the low-post force Golden State so strongly covets -- Zach Randolph -- just might become available.
Monta Ellis (better fit than Randolph), Sarunas Jasikevicius (last year of his deal), Adonal Foyle (veteran to work with Oden) and the No. 18 pick (another young player) for Randolph would seem to help both teams and passes salary-cap inspection.
Randolph is fresh off a career season in which he averaged nearly 24ppg and a shade over 10 rebounds per game. Those are the numbers of an All Star big man. I have no problem parting with Monta, Sarunas, Foyle, and the #18 pick for a legit inside presence, but Randolph just doesn't excite me as a key cog in Nellieball- Hyphy edition. The Warriors are a fun and gun team and Randolph hasn't show any evidence that he can play in an uptempo offense. Additionally, the Warriors play their tenacious, ball-hawking, energetic, style of defense by creating turnovers. A 20-10 big man paid like a superstar should be able to average more than a pathetic 0.2 blocks and 0.8 assists a game (check Randolph's career stats). Randolph's steal and block rates are the antithesis of the style of defense the Warriors played in their big playoff run and was such a vital ingredient for their success. He doesn't look like an ideal fit for this team by any stretch.
Keeping in mind all of his limitations and concerns with him fitting into Nellieball, if the Warriors have any chance to flip something like Ellis, Jasikevicius, Foyle, and the #18 pick for Randolph it's a no-brainer. Randolph maybe one-dimensional, but his one dimension is the one the Warriors don't have.
Would you move Monta Ellis, Sarunas Jasikevicius, Adonal Foyle, and #18 Pick for Zach Randolph?

NO Way
I know it'd be nice to ship Adonal's contract and Sarunas doesn't mean anything to us but a 20 year old Most Improved Player and our 18th pick is too much. If anything, wait to see what we can get with that pick. Nelson is the master of the draft so I'd hold off on everything except a Garnett trade.

YES
And why would you not embrace Ellis, a 21 year old MOST IMPROVED PLAYER and let him grow and flourish under Nelson??? Why would you not embrace a gift from GOD given to us in the 2nd round, after we were blatantly robbed of Gilbert Arenas??
But i believe that we can trade Sarunas contract for another decent player straight up, without offering another sexy commodity, just for the sake of dumping his contract. I have faith in Sarunas' game. You do not win 3 MVP awards in a highly skilled league, and suck. The man has game, he just could not find his shot with the little time he had to impress a coach who was put in a tough situation to find a formula to win, in order to make the playoffs. However, I believe he belongs on a team like San Antonio or Detroit. He belongs in a slower paced, set offense, which would exploit his shooting and passing skills more. I think we could trade him off for something decent.
Adonal is another story. servicable big man, great guy, huge contract. Although, I am a season ticket holder and i must say that he is in fantastic shape. I havnt seen him so lean since his younger years.

what?
Why would you be so eager to trade Jason for Randolph and the 18th pick?
The only reason your saying this, is because your probably some fake bandwagon fan that missed last season when J-Rich was HEALTHY and absolutley carried our team. Jason is our rock. He can be in the top 15 in scoring every year, he can defend on the perimeter and in the post, REBOUND, he can post up gaurds very well, shoot the 3, and finish. His only glaring weakness is his ball handeling, his passing has improved this last season. He is a leader, and he brings toughness and fire to our squad. Nelson will fall in love as soon as Richardson can get his body fully healthy and work hard in the off season to continue to improve, like he has EVERY OFFSEASON...
Zach Randolph, besides from being a ball hog and a whiner, is a good player. However, he is not fast, he is not athletic, he does not defend in the post, and he is not willing to share the ball, something crucial in a system that evolves around passing and getting open perimeter shots, and easy buckets.
and Monta is our future. I wont even get into how stupid alot of you people on here are.. i really hate the fact that alot of our fans are dumb as a box of rocks... but what r u gonna do? i guess thats what you get when fans come out of the woodworks as soon as we come back from the play offs...back then they didnt want me, now im hot they all on me

His only glaring weakness is his ball handeling
I don't think poor ball handling is a weakness in Jason's game, it's more a weakness of our team roster that requires JR to handle the ball. Jason is very good at what he does best and that's what we should be throwing at the opposition, we should not be making JR try to be something he is not.

Hey!
Monta is good and all, but if we can land a big man it would be great. Getting guards are easy! We have Kelenna or Anthony Roberson if we didnt release him! They are fantastic players, they just didnt get the chance. Monta has a huge risk factor too. He might get injured, or if he gets too good the Warriors might not be able to re sign him.
See with this trade we get to load off Foyle's contract and get a superstar.
P.S. I'm not someone on the bandwagon and I dont even care about this dumb bandwagon stuff cause its dumb. I'm a man who lives in the BAY and is a season ticket holder! Hah! No Lie!

He's a bad fit, but ...
He's a player we could then turn around and move for a piece we wanted.
He's not someone who's going to fit in on the Warriors. But there are a lot of teams who should want him - maybe we can use him in a there-way deal to get a player who's a better fit.

Unless he was on Mully's/Nellies radar as a must
If we could get rid of Foyle's contract, that would be a huge albatross lifted from their cap. I don't know much about Randolph. If he's explosive, and can run the floor, and be a ferocious rebounder then maybe I would do this deal but I don't remember him being that player but I could be wrong. I do remember that he had attitude issues but I can't remember which article and the source so maybe I'm confusing him with another Trailblazer.

Al Harrington for Randolph
Both players have their flaws, Al Harringtons unwillingness to go inside instead of play like a little man, and Zach's innability to run and defend.. I think Randolph would be an upgrade, but Al is clearly the only Warrior Mully would consider giving up for Randolph...because Mully is Mully, and Mully doesnt dick around. This trade would help, while giving up an outside shooting commodity and good post up defender in Harrington, we would be gaining an excellent rebounder with a very good low post game. However I dont think Zach Randolph would even fit into our system at all... I would rather trade Al for somebody else if I were to trade him at all.
WARRIORS WOULD NEVER TRADE ELLIS OR JASON FOR THIS TWINKY

Randolph is a stud on the court...
It's unfortunate that a player of Randolph's caliber is marred by his past and his personality, but we've seen time and time again how bad eggs can spoil the bunch.
What we really need is a "Zach-like" player who doesn't have a taste for weed and guns.

First of all, they get Ellis, rising star.
Then they get Jasikevicus, who may just get into the mix above Jarrett Crap.
Then, they get Foyle, which gives them confidence in not resigining Magloire and makes Zorgon very very sad.
Lastly, they get a #18 pick. Who knows? Draft a guy like Splitter and he could become as good or better than Randolph.
What do we get? A decent player with emotional problems.
I don't like it.

NOTE TO GOSM WRITERS:
As for the actual trade...if you're gonna deal Ellis, why not just get Pau Gasol? Or if you're gonna deal Ellis, trade into the top 5 and grab Al Horford or Corey Brewer?
Here's all you need to know about the "post presence" that Randolph brings:
Last three years, his FG%: .448, .436, .467
Those aren't the shooting percentages of someone who plays in the paint all the time.
NEVER averaged a block a game.
Shot 55 and 48 three-pointers the last couple years. Post players don't take that many 3's.
Pass.
Let Chicago have him.

By the way, I'm thinking about it, because a lot of people just want to give him away, I really don't want to see Monta on another team, getting to the rim killing us with his circus and-1's for the next 10 years. I mean I bet Baron now can't guard him, who will?

We Not Trading Ellis
I seen Randolph play a lil bit and he ain't the perfect fit but he'll do and that 18th pick is worthless the only big men I see left is Splitter, Smith, and McRoberts and we already have Splitter in Biedrins and Smith in O' Bryant and McRoberts is just plain soft
If Portland will take Pietrus instead of Ellis and add Outlaw then I'll take it

WARRIORS NEED
The Warriors dont need a true point gaurd. Does anybody hear me? Jeff Van Gundy does not run our team, Nellie does. We are not a team that walks the ball up the court and sets up the O. We run, run, run, all day...then we run some more. Most of our baskets come from pushing the ball up the court, disabling the defense to get set up and comfortable in their element. This usually leads to someone whether it be Davis, Ellis, Richardson, or Jack attacking the rim, getting fouled, and if the drive isnt there, we move the ball around the perimeter until we get an open shot. Its plain to see... the fast break, is seemingly ALWAYS there, because we pesk the opposition into stupid shots and turnovers. Even when they score, we run back on offense before they get there, which is why we have players that can get up the court and who are talented in the fast break game. Jack can run, dish, and finish. J Rich is very fast and he can finish, same goes for Davis, Ellis, Pietrus, and Barnes. These are all fast players who exploit their talents in coach's style. Nellie recognizes. Sometimes, even when Baron is in the game, Jack brings the ball up the court instead. Our offense relies on attacking our opponents from different angles with scorers, and kicking it back out to teamates for shots, while we have mobile big man like Al Harrington and AB causing problems and mismatches. Does anyone understand why we dont need another true point gaurd in order to be successful? It does not take a point gaurd to run this style of offense at all. Instead, we could a physical, take no nonsense guy who can get up the court, can pull 8 or more rebounds, block ALOT of shots from the weak side, and finish after catching the ball on the blocks. NOT necessarily a big strong guy, but someone very physical who loves to mix it up with a nose for the ball. Like a Dennis Rodman or Ron Artest... I nominate GERALD WALLACE...and who knows, maybe its huntin' season for Artest after the dismal season he had. He'd love Nellie. I dont see those two not getting along because real always recognizes real. AL JEFFERSON would be very nice too, and is one of the few players i would trade Monta for. He is only 22 yrs old and has a VERY polished low post game.
Monta is not a dime a dozen gaurd by the way. Alot of you guys are saying that, but hes not. The kid is blessed with so much GOD GIVEN TALENT and hes so young, so much room to expand. I dont see how you think we can just go get ourselves another Monta Ellis with the snap of a finger.
Anyways, with that said, I hope you good Warrior fans see my reasoning and agree with me. My question to you ALL is this...
WHO WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE IN A NEW WARRIORS UNIFORM NEXT SEASON?

Zach Randolph? Oh hells no!
Remember the days of RUN-TMC when we could never get past the second round of the playoffs during Coach Nelson's first tenure with the dubs? The talk at that point in time was we need a big man (suprise, surprise huh?). Anyway, what eventually ensued was the dumbest mistake Nellie ever made by his own admission by trading Mitch Richmond to the Kings for Billy Owens and the days of our run-and-gun style of play were over until this year's incarnation of the run-and-gun Warriors. Speaking of which, I think the nickname we should start calling our Warriors is "RUN-LIKE-HELL" (the nickname Bob Fitzgerald gave them)...haha.
As far as tradeable players go, I think that Monta Ellis and Andris Biedrins are untouchable. We're talking about the future of our team right there. If those two guys continue to work hard in the offseason, they could set us up to be a perrenial contender for the next decade. This year, I would like to see Andris hit the weight room to get stronger, faster, more athletic and more explosive. Monta needs to keep workin on that midrange shot and his ball handling.
As for Jason Richardson, I'm on the fence with him. No doubt about it, there are glaring flaws in his game. Why is a guy who is athletic as Dwayne Wade or Kobe Bryant unable to finish at the rim? Part of it is his lack of ballhandling, his lack of mindset, and his lack of body control to absorb the contact in the lane; but at the same time, we all know what he brings to the team such as a solid post game, decent shooting, good defense, great rebounding at the guard spot, and all the intangibles. Having all the said, I know he's working his ass off in the offseason to come back healthier, stronger, and better than ever; so I would hold off on trading him for now.
Anyway, we should continue to develop our style of play and look to add some pieces here and there. A low post player who can defend, rebound the ball on both ends of the court, and maybe block some shots is preferable. But at the same time, we shouldn't go after a guy who is 7 feet and 300 pounds. We need a player who is conditioned enough to run with our guys. Any offensive game is a plus. We don't necessarily need a big man who needs to have the ball in his hands at all times. Remember the old run and gun Celtics of the 1960s. Their big man was Bill Russell and he was not an offensive machine, but was still an important part of the offense because he started the break with his shot blocking and rebounding. Just some food for thought. GO WARRIORS!
