Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Tonight's Honorary Captain

Not enough news gets published about the community involvement of the Warriors organization and the players. They do great things around the Bay Area for the local youth and community. Tonight, the Warriors are making a dream come true for Ryan Fong, a teenager afflicted with cerebral palsy (update: Ryan actually has a mild form of apraxia not cerebral palsy). My father is doing a documentary on people with cerebral palsy and he sent Ryan's story my way. Here's a quick write up about Ryan from his mother.

Ryan Fong just celebrated his 14th birthday with a "Warriors" theme!  His house was decorated with "We Believe" signs and posters of Warrior players.  His friends played basketball on his "Warriors" sportcourt!  He received 3 Warriors jerseys as birthday presents, too.

Ryan has been a Warriors fan since birth - actually his pregnant mother and father went to Warrior games (they've been going to games for over 45 years) and have been bringing him to games since he was a baby.  He lives in Oakland and is a student at Montera Middle School, where he plays clarinet and is member of their Jazz Club. He's been a season ticket holder for 5 years.

He likes all the entertainment at the games and has won over 40 pizzas.  He was really lucky at Sunday's game and caught a "We Believe" T-shirt!  His favorite players are Jason Richardson and Baron Davis.

The Warrior Girls with the honorary captain!

I'm not sure if they'll announce it at the game, but if they do give Ryan a big round of applause.

Way to go, Ryan!
Here's to a guy who never lost enthusiasm for his team despite the fact they haven't reached the playoffs once during his lifetime.

Fantasy Junky: Maybe post a diary or something if/when your dad's documentary is available on dvd.
