New GSoM Poll: Most Untouchable Warrior
Post Pacers' heist, the 2007 Golden State Warriors were an extremely fun team to watch. I don't think you'll find any Warrior fan or even NBA fan that thinks differently. However, there seems to be plenty of difference in opinion amongst GSoMers (the most intelligent Warrior junkies on this planet) about who's the most untradeable Warrior. Some aren't willing to part with Boom Dizzle and that crazy beard. Some aren't willing to part with JRich or Die Flying. Some aren't willing to part with the youth in Andris "Good Ivan Drago" Biedrins and Monta Ellis to the Rim! Some aren't willing to let Action Jackson leave the Yay. Some don't want to see TMNHarrington go. But let's see what the consensus is here at the golden spot- vote or die on another great GSoM front page poll.
Which of these Warriors should be the most untouchable in trade discussions?
- Baron Davis
- Jason Richardson
- Stephen Jackson
- Al Harrington
- Andris Biedrins
- Monta Ellis

A Yay Area classic!

Biedrins
If Biedrins leaves and we don't get a decent big man to replace him, we'll have absolutely nobody to rebound and nobody to defend the rim. He's crucial to this roster as it is right now.

I definitely agree
Nellie's the brains.
Monta's the legs.
Biedrins' the hair.
Harrington's the bald head.
Stephen Jackson can be the mouth.
Baron's the beard.
etc

Anyone but Harrington
Biedrins
Jackson
Davis
Richardson
Ellis
Everyone above is absolutely tight about Biedrins. Replacing him would be nearly impossible and would set the franchise back again.
Stephen Jackson is one of those rare players like Ron Artest and Shawn Marion. Long, tough and with just enough of a chip on his shoulder (OK, in his and Artest's cases the chip could be a hell of a lot smaller for my taste) to take defense personally. Stronger than Tayshon Prince, bigger than Bruce Bowen, guys like this are nearly priceless. We need him to guard Nowitski.
Baron Davis is one of the top 5-7 PGs in the league and we aren't getting Nash or Kidd or Chris Paul back in a trade so we need Baron. Plus, he and Stephen Jackson work REALLY well together, especially on defense.
JRich...Man it would be tough to lose him. But replacing a SG, even one as awesome as JR, is far easier than replacing a C or a PG. If he was traded with Harrington and Pietrus for KG I think I'd be OK with it.
Ellis is going to be really good, and he reminds me a bit of a young Arenas with his head screwed on straight. But who knows? Now might be a time to get great value for him.
HOWEVER, what I do think we NEED to do is to include Harrington in a sign-and-trade with Pietrus and get a real PF while Harrington's value is high. I really feel like he is a perimeter player and an underachiever who played over his head last season. If the two of them (plus our pick and/or POB) brought in KG or Rasheed Wallace or someone like that...all would be right with the world.

its' not even CLOSE
Answer: ANDRIS BIEDRINS.
Yup, Latvia was present for all 82 regular season games. You can't say that for Baron Davis (LOL!), Monta Ellis, or Jason Richardson. I'll leave the new Warriors out since they only had half the season here.
He was the most valuable Warrior last year, and will be the most valuable Warrior for a long while:
- Durability. By my knowledge, he's never been injured. Man, of all teams, we should know how important that is, right?
- Youth/Upside. He's, what, 21? 22? He's become a legit shot-changer and is demonstrating a better sense of how to react in the paint offensively and defensively. The post game is coming along nicely, to the piont now where I'd trust him with the ball in the post, alone, against most other PF/C's in the league for 3-4 possessions a game. How many big men these days could you throw the ball to inside the paint and say, "score"? How many of those big men do everything else well enough you could start them (that rules out Diogu, Powe, Sweetney...)
- Attitude. Heart. For all this love Richardson get for being loyal to the organization...Biedins is sorely underrated. Biedrins patiently sat on the bench under Monty while crap like Murphy and Foyle got burn at the center position, and this year, after winning the job early on, did not complain at all when he was asked to come off the bench for Nellie's uber-small ball with Harrington at C. Then in the playoffs, when he was needed to change things up against the Mavs, he suited up in the starting lineup and was ready and willing to play. By all accounts, Biedrins is extremely coachable, and worked hard to learn the offense, and became the perfect target for Baron Davis and Stephen Jackson's interior passes. Perfect team player here guys.
- Fit. Biedrins would be excellent in any stem, but he's completely and utterly perfect for Don Nelson's system. Perfect. He doesn't demand the ball, but when you give it to him, he converts at a 60% clip. He cuts sharply off the pick and roll, knows his role, and has an excellent sense of timing and spacing. How often have we seen a Warrior charge into the lane, finding a collapsing defense, then finding Biedrins flashing under the bucket? It's such a simple thing, but big men think they don't need to cut sometimes. Biedrins always seems to be int he right place at the right time. He's also fast enough to run the floor (see: Statue of Liberty on Dallas) in our offense and quick enough to play in our scramble defense. He does a great job of "hedging" guards on while playing the pick and roll, reacts quickly in the paint to block shots. On top of all that, he seems to be becoming a pretty good passer as well.
Latvia for life.

"Injuries"
Obviously BD did a lot in the last two months to silence all the doubters, but it's still just two months. If you factor in age, $$$, and durability, I think there's no question Biedrins is the most untouchable guy on the team.
