Rumor: Warriors Interested in DeVon Hardin with #18 Pick

It looks like Tri-City balla DeVon Hardin (Newark!) might be on the Warriors' radar in the 2007 NBA Draft for the 18th pick.

Check out what Andy Katz had to say about the Cal big man in ESPN.com's college hoops section:

Cal coach Ben Braun hopes to hear from Hardin over the weekend about his decision, but Hardin is certainly acting as if he's staying in the draft. And he may have a good case.

There is definite interest from New Jersey at No. 17 and Golden State at No. 18. If either team can assure Hardin that he's not going below them, he may stay in the draft. Hardin's original goal was top-20, and he may just have that within his reach at this point. Hardin was limited last season with injuries but has always been an NBA talent.

Cal center DeVon Hardin had a tough junior season at Berkeley because of a foot injury and only played in 11 games, but there's no doubt that he's an intriguing player. If he can continue his rebounding and shot blocking at the NBA level, DeVon would be a nice piece for the Dubs. Along with Colorado State big man Jason Smith, DeVon is scheduled to work out with the Warriors this Sunday June 17th.

Is DeVon Hardin a good pick for the Warriors at #18?

UPDATE: All the latest on DeVon Hardin.

UPDATE 2: It looks like Devon Hardin has pulled out of the 2007 NBA Draft and will be headed back to Cal for his senior season. See Hardin takes name out of NBA draft [ESPN]

Uh
seriously?  I played against this guy in High school, and yea he was pretty talented but to take him that high in a draft as loaded as this one is a mistake.  Itll be better for him and interested teams to let him play another year and get picked in 2008.

he has lot's of potential
but his still raw. i think we should take him and us one of are 2nd round draft picks but not the 1st round pick.

Eh
Intriguing, perhaps. I feel like he hasn't really progressed since his freshman year at Cal, but I don't see how it's possible that he's peaked. Maybe it depends on who's available at #18 come draft day: if nobody drops too far (Thaddeus Young, Nick Young, etc) and they're left picking between Splitter, Sean Williams, and Hardin, then maybe it wouldn't be so bad. He certainly has some potential, and who's to say he won't be a valuable player. But there's no way they should give him a guarantee; hell, if he stays in, he might be available at #36.

uh
he hasn't really done anything at cal, why would he be a #18 pick and powe be a 2nd rounder when powe has shown he can do so much more?

not no but hell no
he is talented but not top 20 talent.  maybe next year. he should go back to Cal for another year and pad his stats a bit more.

Well it was rumored/ reported on ESPN.com.

Source attribution my friends. We're not making up rumors here. We're linking to them from around the web and making the source perfectly clear with a link.

Devonnnnn
I've played his team in highschool also, Newark Memorial. him and Kyle Spain, Ben Washington, Trae Clark were imppppressive.

really raw offensively, but physically he's an absolute beast. the guy also is a great defender. If the warriors were to trade down and pick him up later, that would be fine, but I think there should be better options on the board than Devon.

i hope not in the 1st round
maybe with one of our 2nd rounders, but i have watched devon hardin since he has been at cal and am not a very big fan. dont we already have about 3 project centers (andris, pob, perovich). if we stay pat, i like the thad young idea, maybe he could help to replace barnes.

but seriously. no hardin this early
