Air France to Toronto?

http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/basketball/2007/06/24/2007-06-24_the_lonely_wolf.html

Once free agency starts, the Raptors have their mid-level exception set aside for Golden State's Mickael Pietrus, who could start for them next season at small forward.

Just curious to know who we could get back for Pietrus, and also how he could fit in with their roster.

This FanPost is a submission from a member of the mighty Golden State of Mind community. While we're all here to throw up that W, these words do not necessarily reflect the views of the GSoM Crew. Still, chances are the preceding post is Unstoppable Baby!

......who we could get back......
Nobody unless the Warriors match the Raptors offer and then trade him.  Pietrus is a restricted free agent.

If they did a sign & trade...
Maybe they could get TJ Ford. That would help our backup PG situation. I'm not sure if the Raptors would let him go though.

Uhhh, yeah
Maybe they could throw in that Bosh guy too? He could be a half-decent solution to our PF problem...

yeah maybe
i think they would do that deal. remember our trade to dallas. and thats still not half as bad as that trade.

tj ford for pietrus

Right...
Ya Colangelo is jumping at the chance to dump TJ Ford, who runs their break-neck speed offense to a T, and who he traded Big for Small to get (a huge no-no in the NBA)...Colangelo Jr. would laugh in our face.

I'd love to get something for Pietrus, but worse comes to worse let him walk and clear some cap space.

Let him go
  • Re-sign Barnes and Buki.
  • Use the MLE for Earl Boykins.
  • Trade JRich, Monta, and Al for Kobe.
  • Draft Splitter at #18, Derrick Byars and Dominic McGuire in the 2nd round.
The Killer Bs...

Baron
Bryant
Biedrins
Barnes
Boykins
Buki
Byars

++ Jax, McGuire, Splitter, Foyle, Powell

Barnes and the MLE
If we re-sign Barnes, it more than likely means we can't sign anyone with the MLE.  We have no rights to him.  We cannot go over the cap and as such, anything over the minimum means using an exception.  Since the MLE is the exception we have, it can't be Barnes and someone else.

(and don't for get (O')Bryant in the killer bee--the O there at the beginning to remind us his actual worth.)

what happened
to throwing Ron Artest on the all star team

by travisl212 on Jun 24, 2007 9:51 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Wow, good memory!
You mean people actually listen to me when I'm babbling? ;-)

I'd love to have Artest on there in place of one of the rooks (even though his name doesn't begin with B), but I just don't think we'd have the trading pieces to do it after the Kobe deal. It also starts to get pricy.

Also, as much as I like Artest's game, I think a lot of what he brings -- athleticism and intensity, ability to defend multiple positions -- can be replaced by Jax, Barnes, and a well-chosen college guy or two.

JAE brings up a good point about the MLE, though. We might have to work a sign/trade (maybe with Cabbages?) if we really want Boykins. Personally, I think he'd be a perfect fit here.

lol
yep i remembered.  idk about boykins tho.  you know the whole switching on screens thing and how everyone is versatile defensively well, boykins kinda ruins that and all of a sudden instead of teams having matchup problems with us, we now have a matchup problem and boykins becomes a liability idk.  im sure nellie could make it work, but im not sure hes the guy we want

I
wouldn't mind trying to get Jose Calderon back from the Raptors. I think he'd fit in at the backup PG spot.

LET PIETRUS GO!!!!! IF WE RESIGN HIM WITH THE MLE

The Dubs are letting him go
The Dubs knew he'd command the MLE and that someone would give it to him (I'm surprised Toronto is being linked to MP2 because they just traded for Delfino .. they must really not like Graham, but that makes sense). I remember reporting that Nellie said it was a "financial concern, not a love concern" as his reason for letting him go.

I actually expected Detroit to throw the MLE at MP. A little birdie told me the Pistons loved him and all that. But if Toronto offers, I think MP would choose them over everyone other than the Dubs.

Toronto
will have be the worst team in the league in turnovers and free throw percentage next season.

Au revoir, Air France
Just let him go to America Junior. He was a nice piece to our team since we have drafted him during King James' draft class. I'd say re-sign Barnes and 'Buki. Give Biedrins and Ellis their contract extensions. Persuade B-Diddy to take a 4 year contract worth $18M a year. I wanna keep this roster for as long as we have Nellie as our coach. Keep J-Rich for now as well as TMN Harrington. There's really no player I would want from Toronto without having to sacrifice our core guys. TJ's cool and all, but he has a history of injuries as well. Chris Bosh will do wonders to our roster, but Colangelo won't give him up for anybody. Bargnani is also untouchable as well as Garbajosa. Once MP2 leaves, we will have to bid him adieu!

bye bye mp
let him go!!!though mp has his moments here and there where is is great for our team.....his consistent dumb dumb moves everygame, his careless 3 pt attempts and the oh so-dreadful 3-4 careless fouls everygame, do not help us in the long run.....especially not for the type of money we'd have to give him if we matched the raptors....even though u seem like a nice guy mp, and yes even though u have nice dunks or blocks here n there....id rather not see us give up that kind of money.....good luck with bosh and ford!who is with me!?

Chateau Pietrus
Its been fun dude.  Air France was a good defender, was okay at 3 pointers from the baseline and could dunk well.  As far as dribbling?  FT shooting?  Passing?  Jumpshot?  Turnovers?  Did I mention FT shooting and turnovers?  Pietrus, was a good guy that I took enjoyment watching evolve.  I remember watching him 3 years ago shooting before games with the shooting coach's.  He was so raw and juvenile as a basketball player.  He still has a lot of that in him, but he really has made some great strides.  He still is totally suspect in many areas, but we have to wish him well on his way up to Canada eh?!  He's gonna miss us though.  How can you get killer super burritos in Toronto?  Se la vie!
