Rumor: #18 Pick + Adonal Foyle for Jared Jeffries and Mardy Collins

If you aren't excited about tomorrow's draft, then you need to check your pulse. The Warriors are either throwing up an insane number of smoke screens or they're incredibly trade-happy. It looks like they're willing to move up, down, left, and right in this draft. Here's a rumored deal with the New York Knicks from Chad Ford of ESPN.com:

The Knicks are trying to move up higher in the first round -- presumably to get their hands on Boston College's Sean Williams. According to sources, they've spoken with the Warriors about a deal that would net them the No. 18 pick if they'd be willing to take back Adonal Foyle's ridiculous contract. The Knicks could put a package together that included Jared Jeffries and Mardy Collins.

I like this trade for several reasons for the Warriors:

  • Foyle's horrendous contract will finally be off the books which hopefully makes it easier to retain Jason Richardson and extend Andris Biedrins or Monta Ellis.
  • I'm sick of the Denver Nuggets and their Monstars lineup beating up on the Warriors. There's no better Nugget Killer than Mardy Collins.
  • Jared Jeffries is an amazing all around talent that could easily net 20-5-5 in this league. (Just seeing if you're still reading.)

It's very interesting that Isiah Thomas is rumored to be infatuated with Sean Williams. Say what you want about Isiah's cap management skills or lack there of, but the man knows talent and knows how to draft. I wouldn't be too surprised if Williams turns out to be this draft's biggest sleeper. He could also be the draft's biggest headache, but only time will tell.

Would you trade the #18 pick and Adonal Foyle to the Knicks for Jared Jeffries, Mardy Collins, and parts?

99% of rumors never happen, but 99% of them are fun to talk about!

Props to Grandma for posting this up in a diary.

DO IT!
Getting rid of Foyles contract would solve a lot of problems

haha and i love the monstars comment
They are really like Monstars. All of the players on their team are huge sans Iverson and can anyone tell me anything about Mardy Collins?

Even more absurd than the previous one
Jeffries and Collins, to put it bluntly, suck. I'd rather see 'Buki get minutes than either of them. And Jefferies' contract is a year longer and only marginally cheaper than Foyle's.

Now if they threw in a few unprotected #1 picks I'd consider it. That worked out pretty well for the Bulls the last two years.

gd pt
JJ's only 25 though, and may fit Nelson's system whereas AF is 32, and clearly doesn't

umm
I wouldnt say Jeffries sucks. He may not be the best fit for New York(who is). At least we know he's still young and is good enough to intruige a team enough into paying him top dollar. He IS more tradable than Foyle too. We could probably work a 3 team deal and wind up with neither Foyle or Jeffries. I personally like Jeffries in Nellie's game coming off the bench, and I make this trade.

Um
He sucks.

I mean, "sucks" is of course relative when we're talking about the NBA, the greatest collection of athletes on the planet, but by any measurable definition, he sucks. Any value he has is bound up in the fact that he's 6'11" and "multi-skilled." But what are those skills? He's not a scorer, bricks his free throws, doesn't pass, doesn't block shots. He's coming off a season in which he put up a pathetic 8.6 PER; and even his career high, in a more favorable system, is worse than Dunleavy's career low. He turns 26 this year, not an age at which players magically start to blossom. Basically he's a much, much, much worse player than Mike Dunleavy Jr. And since we have no problem saying Junior sucks, we should be willing to extend the same courtesy to Jared Jeffries.

He sucks. I'd rather have Foyle.

Yeah Man...
Jeffries does suck, I added him to my roster in 2k7 (for the 360) and he had 6 turnovers (2 inbounding) at the half and shot 4 for 9 at the half! LOL.

maybe
he sucks because he's realized he's signed his life over to a franchise like the knicks purgatory run by the devil himself, Isaiah Thomas.. Players sometimes lose their motivation to be better and play hard when they're unhappy. He didnt make that money holding hands with inferiority...but MAYBE your right. MAYBE he just sucks. But I wouldnt say that he just does, and always will. Im not saying this is the right trade, but to just write off a young player that easy with his upside, i dunno....seems...foolish?

I think you would see a different player if he learned he was coming to Oakland to play for the Don. But who the hell knows, maybe your right.

Could be, could be
In the end, I just don't see how he'd get minutes when we already have like 5 talented small forwards. I think Foyle, overpriced as he is, actually fills much more of a need for us, even if Nellie won't use him come playoff time. If Jeffries were a little cheaper, at shorter terms, I'd be more open to the deal.

hmmm
Well, we actually probably wont have like 5 talented SFs anymore, as Barnes and Pietrus are probably both leaving. If Nelly didnt use Foyle during the playoffs this year...then what makes you think he would use him next year. He NEVER will. Which I think is a bit foolish because I think Foyle has the ability to give you defense and mix it up with his effort.

I went to a whole lot of games and watched him in warm ups. He looks to me like he is suprisingly, in the best shape of his career. Have you seen him lately?

Isn't Foyle( on the bench sadly) and Sean Williams more usefull to us than Colins and Jeffries would be? Williams could be our low budget Amare.

yup
I'd definitely do this one. Rids us of an impossible contract, and gets us some guys for maybe trade bait.

Trash for junk
This isn't as good as it looks - Jeffries got paid and now has gotten fat and can't recover from a wrist injury .. not the kind of guy that you'd want on this squad.

He has the tools and wingspan to be a great defender and would be a lot like Barnes .. if he shipped up he'd get time.

Coolins, as I call him, would be gone in a year .. totally not a Nellie type of player.

Losing the 18 hurts. A lot, since really that's the Warriors' main weapon in getting better this offseason, something this move doesn't facilitate.

Getting rid of Foyle's contract isn't worth it if the Warriors can't improve. I'd pass.

hmmm
As much as I'd like to see a tough Sean Willams go to work for us (assuming he would work), I think I might be willing to take on Jared Jeffries in order to get rid of Foyle's contract.
At least we'd get a player we could use. Jeffries was sidelined this season, but one of the reasons he was plucked by NY was because of his performance in the playoffs as a Wizard. The guy's got reach and is a great defender.
It's just hard to give up a pick that high with this Draft.

WOW! What a deal!
I never really thought of Foyle in Trade talks! Yeah, Maybe Jeffries got off on the Tubby side, but maybe Nellie can shape his a$$ up. I don't know too much about these cats but dumping Foyle's contract could possibly help our team out in keeping cats like  Barnes, j-rich and Ellis... than that's just my opinion which is similar 2 those above...

Foyle's contract is not that bad
He has two years left.  We put up with his contract this year and then he becomes a $9 million expiring next year, making him extremely valuable.  As was said before, JJ has an extra year on Foyle so we would still be in a mess salary cap wise, actually into the biedrins/monta era for one extra year.  It doesn't really help us at all.
