Rumor: Monta Ellis + #18 Pick for Bobcats' #8 Pick

It's good to have friends in high places and it looks like former Warriors GM Rod Higgins' new front office job with the Charlotte Bobcats might pay dividends for the Dubs. Here's what ESPN's Chad Ford is hearing about the BETcats' #8 pick:

The Bobcats are telling teams they'll make a decision sometime today on what to do with the No. 8 pick. As we discussed on Monday, they have been shopping this pick hard for the past several weeks and collected five to six legitimate offers for the pick.

Andy Katz reported last night that the Suns were one of the teams in the mix to get No. 8. That explains why they had Joakim Noah, Corey Brewer and Jeff Green in on Tuesday. And why they'll get Brandan Wright and Al Thornton in today.

However, a source says the Suns are not the front-runners to get the pick. Several other teams are offering better deals for No. 8, including the Sixers (offering No. 12 and No. 21), Warriors (offering Monta Ellis and No. 18), Grizzlies (???) and one mystery team that the source refused to disclose.

There could be some very nice names still left on the board at #8 including The Yi Movement, so if this deal for the Bobcats' pick is on the table I'd seriously consider it. Nellie reportedly needs more time to make up his mind on whether he's coming back. Monta fell out of favor with Nellie in the playoffs, so this might be the move that has enough juice to sign, seal, and deliver Nellie for next season.

Would you trade Monta Ellis and the #18 pick for the Bobcats' #8 pick? Who would you like the Warriors to pick up at that slot?

99% of rumors never happen, but 99% of them are fun to talk about!

Props to Grandma for posting this up in a diary.

That's a ridiculous deal
There's no way we're parting with Monta Ellis just to move up ten stinkin' spots in the draft. There's not even that big of a drop-off in the talent pool from #8 to 18. If that deal is to be believed, there must be some other moving parts. As has been mentioned, Charlotte's an interesting trade partner if we can get Gerald Wallace (and possibly Brevin Knight) out of them.

Draft Noah, Yi, or B. Wright at #8. Keep Monta.

Monta to move up?
To number 8?  No way!  The 8'th pick is a crapshoot--Monta is the real deal.

This is a deep draft BUT
I think that is a lot to give up for the #8 pick. I'll admit that I probably over value Monta but there is no way that I give him and the #18 pick up just to move up and grab a guy who may or may not be a legit NBA player. There are no guarantees in the draft (besides 1&2) even this year.

However if Sleepy is right and this might be a precursor to a larger deal involving Wallace and possibly Knight then maybe we have something to think about. But even then I don't see how Monta would fit in without us getting the short end of the deal.

Too much
Monta is too much to give up for just the number 8 pick. Once you add in our 18th pick... I'm not sure Mullin would do that.
