Oh my
I also hope this sets us up for Garnett...

Also: it's BrandAN Wright.

by Sleepy Freud on Jun 28, 2007 7:53 PM PDT reply actions

honestly
this looks like a bad trade for GS, but i don't know what brandan wright is like. on the bright side for jrich, he's got a familiar face in rod higgins, management that clearly wants to win and a potential mentor in michael jordan, and he can provide the veteran presence that the bobcats need.

bottom line: it's a good thing that stars are finally being shipped out east, but it's horrible that it has to be from the warriors.

Go Tigers! Back to back to back Big West champions! ...and Warriors

Very unfortunate. Is there a way for us to personally thank JRich for years, years, of service?

What the HELL!
I hope this isn't true. I watched about 20 minutes of the draft, and turned it after the W's picked their annual Johnny Noskill (my nickname for Dub lottery picks of the 21st century.)

JRich is so dedicated to this franchise. This better not come to pass. =(

freakin bucks
This shoulda been the trade for Yi, those milwacky %@#$^#ers.

As it stands, we got a raw athlete, potential shotblocking/boarding force but without real skills yet. We could hide his weaknesses like Ellis/Pietrus, and make him productive, but he has too much BUST potential, especially with the red flags about his heart and IQ.

If he's packaged for Garnett with Ellis or something, then it's, of course, great.

Argh, i wanted Al Horford or Brewer

this is good for nothing else but clearing cap
now they can sign biedrins long term.  brandan wright has a high ceiling, can finish around the basket with either hand.  jrich was a great warrior, but he is a streaky shooter and no longer has hops.  we hoodwinked the bobcats on this one.

This was
a great move for the franchise, especially for the future.  It might not be what we like, but it is best for our team.  Brandon Wright is a GREAT talented big that can make us a title contender to battle with the Blazers in the future,

Monta
Belinelli
SF
B Wright
Biedrins

Whoa, those a four all-star players in five years.  This is a move for the future Warrior dynasty.  Or it gets us KG.  Win- win, baby, win -win.

Sorry JRich, its Purely Business
This was a great trade for the W's.  You get younger and bigger, plus cap relief.  Brandon Wright was called the third best talent before all the camps and workouts.

As for the next year, its not that bad; realize that they made their great run because of Baron, SJax, Harrington, Ellis and Biedrins mostly.  Yeah JRich had some big nights but he was not why they beat the Mavs nor why they went 11-2 down the stretch.

I really admired JRich for his faithful service and total dedication to the franchise.  But that still did not blind me to his total lack of dribbling and lack of mid range game, it was dunk or 3.

Nice job Mully.

Nothing better than "The City".

by dajrichshow on Jun 28, 2007 8:53 PM PDT reply actions

Good trade
Brandon Wright is rated a top talent, plus the Warriors now have enough money to sign Biedrens and Ellis.  Plus JRich is weak defensively and a bad ball handler--good overall player though with is rebounding and shooting.  But it's small for big and a big money saver.  Good deal.

by old49er on Jun 28, 2007 9:34 PM PDT reply actions

I wonder...
funny that the warriors traded for B. Wright and not Yi.  Or could the warriors plan be to offer B. Wright to Milwaukee if Yi decides not to cooperate with the Bucks?

Could this type of trade even happen in the coming days or would it have to be tonight?

Wright makes a lot of sense for the warriors but like all the fans on here, I am sad to see Richardson go.  Guess I have a new second-favorite team now though.

by BingBluNT on Jun 28, 2007 10:15 PM PDT reply actions

Lets not get carried away here ...
I love Jrich since the day we drafted him.  But for some of us to say we should boycott buying tix to the game is ridiculous.  It's a business and Jrich and the Warriors will act as professionals.

My problem with Jrich is that he's getting paid superstar/franchise player money when he's really a great #2 option, kinda like Michael Finley in his prime.  The Warriors overpaid for JR at a time when you had to overpay players to stay in Oakland.  Remember Jamison?

Maybe Monta and Beindrins aren't going to equal Richardson down the line, but for the money Rich was making, we could probably pay 2 or 3 players.

Hate to see JR go, but Mullin did a Billy Beane tactic.  It's better to trade someone a year early than a year late.

Wright's tall and athletic and really young.  Early on people were rating him 3rd in the draft after Oden and Durant.  BWright certainly has a lot of .... gulp potential.  Let's hope he developms.

KG trade?
http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/rumors/post/Warriors-Timberwolves-talk-prospects-for-KG;_ylt=Aj.t0pG3wnn KzTOWHg4Cjem8vLYF?urn=nba,37994

"The Golden State Warriors jumped into the Kevin Garnett sweepstakes with both feet on draft day, trading popular Jason Richardson to Charlotte for young Brandan Wright, whom they hadn't even worked out.

With the Minnesota Timberwolves seeking prospects, the Warriors are now offering Wright, Monta Ellis and Patrick O'Bryant.

Minnesota is asking for Andris Biedrins. Golden State is offering Al Harrington instead and may also insist that Garnett waive his $6.5-million trade kicker, so it's not done yet.

Source: Los Angeles Times"

I love KG but i don't know about this trade. It seems like we are giving up way too much. Wright, Monta, Harrington could possibly be 3 starters next year. As good as KG is I don't see a lineup consisting of Baron, Stephen Jackson, Barnes, KG, and Biedrins as a championship calliber lineup. With Baron's history of injuries, Monta is key to the Warriors success. If this trade goes through and Baron gets hurt, we are DONE. I may like this deal more if instead of giving up Wright we give up Biendrins. Both of them are big men with lots of potential, but after watching UNC play, Wright seems to have a lot more talent. That's probably why Minnesota wants him so bad. It would be awsome if we could keep Wright and have him play along with KG, a player he could model his game after. Wright seems too valuable to trade.
