Hey lets trade Baron, Monta, and AB
Hey this is a great trade. While we are at it why don't we trade Baron for Dunleavy, monta for Harpring, and AB for Kemp, do you think he will come back? How could he resist. Look at our front office! Hey some one call Brain Sabian Lets see if Matt Williams could come back so we could trade him again. The 49ers are the only hope for us!!!!
J-Rich for #8 sounds like Webber for Guogliata

Ultimate Betrayal
What an incredible betrayal to J-Rich and a bad move for the Warriors.  Trade J-Rich to free time for Bellinelli?  This is crazy.

ITS STUPID TO TRADE THIS.. WE COULD OF GOTTEN ALOT BETTER LIKE MONTA FOR 8TH.. BRANDON BETTER NOT BE A BUST OR ELSE WE JUST LOST ONE OF THE MOST HARDWORKING PLAYERS IN THE NBA. HOPEFULLY THIS CAN BE TRADE BAIT TO GET KG!

Sad news
This is sad news, but tomorrow I think it'll look like a solid deal for the Warriors.  The Big Lead is already calling it a big win, and it works in the right direction in a few ways: getting bigger, younger, and cheaper.  Plus, Wright was a bargain at the #8 spot by most accounts.

But yeah--seeing J-Rich go is a bummer.

This sucks
Basketball wise, I don't really think it hurts us, in fact I think we probably come out on top even, but screw that. It sucks. JRich was the face of this franchise, he cared when nobody else did, and we traded him for a dime-a-dozen upside-forward. That blows.

by jonathan on Jun 28, 2007 8:28 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Terrible
The Bobcats just fleeced the Warriors.  Brandan Wright is soft, doesn't work hard, has no offensive game other than dunks, and is years away from ever contributing.  I think he has a great shot at being a bust.

by MP2Fan on Jun 28, 2007 8:28 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Good Move
J Rich has peaked as a player.  We weren't going anywhere with him.  Good move.

by Googs on Jun 28, 2007 8:28 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

I respectfuly disagree
Whether he peaked or not is irrelevant. JRich is at a level offensively that Brandon Wright isn't even projected to reach. We lost a great scorer for a raw forward.

by Jeremy Belvins on Jun 28, 2007 8:32 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Fair enough...
I think it's a lot easier to replace scoring from a shooting guard than it is to find such a talented big man.  I agree with the people who say that in other drafts Wright could have gone #1 overall.  I respect JRich for all he's done here but I think Mullin and Nellie did a good job of selling high on him.

Ouch...my heart...but wait
Ill admit that a sullen tear dropped from my eye when I heard this announced.. But I think I see where the Warriors are going with this. Either we will trade Wright, Ellis, and someone else for Garnett

OR

We bet that this is a guy Mully/Nelson had their eyes on, and trust that he will some day be a Chris Bosh. That would leave us with
Baron
Monta
Jackson
Wright
Biedrins

J Rich
I hope all the best for Jason.  He has a lot of heart.  But shooting guards are a not hard to get.  He could not handle and so he was basically an outside shooter who rarely got to the line.  When he did he was not too accurate there.  Great rebounder who improved his passing and defense at the end of last year.  Good luck to him.

J-Rich
J-Rich /= western conference all-star, though.  I'll miss him, but I think we'll be fine.

by yehyeh82 on Jun 28, 2007 8:37 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Look at both sides
I know we lost the face of our franchise, but look at some of the bright sides.
  1. We can extend Monta and AB
  2. We don't go into luxury tax, meaning we lose either Monta or AB
  3. JRich was way overpaid for someone that hadn't made an all-star game
  4. SGs are so common but big men are rare
I'll admit Brandon Wright is said to be soft and needs to put on some weight, but come on.  Did any of you watch the Tar Heels games this season?  The guy has some post game that can definately be improved, he can get up and has extremely long arms, and the best part is he can run.  It's a work in progress, but I guess Mullin and Nellie chose to make a push in 3 years rather than now.  Who cares about KG, we would of had to gave everyone for him, and then we'd be even more tired come the fourth quarter.  We need depth and with more salary room, we extend monta, AB, and can possibly bring back Barnes for the MLE.

by Mdawg851 on Jun 28, 2007 8:38 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

kg
well to get KG they would have to give up j-rich AND biedrins.  which i would have been on board with, but maybe mully and nelly don't want to sacrifice andris for the 31 or 32 year old garnett.

by kristakahashi on Jun 28, 2007 8:38 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

You don't trade Andris
Andris and Baron are the only two Warriors I would not trade.  He is the real future.  He will be real good.  He is just a kid still.  It will be interesting to see his progress next year.

i'm still in shock....
i have the same feeling i got when i saw the trade with Indy last season. As much as I wanted them to make a trade, I questioned if we could've gotten something better (Jax had a huge question mark on him at the time). But turns out we got a real bargain of a deal. So I'm hoping this has the same results.. as much as I want the Warriors to make a bold move, I'm not so sure if this is the best scenario we could have had... I guess we'll just have to keep our fingers crossed until next season.

by lightz0ut on Jun 28, 2007 8:50 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Shock at the Indy trade?!
That was the best move since getting Baron from the Hornets for nothing. Indy went from a playoff team (albeit in the east) to a lottery team. We went from a lottery team to a playoff team.
This trade hurts because we did not get value for what we gave up.

by tangel29 on Jun 29, 2007 12:24 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

JRich
While I'll miss JRich because of his heart and effort lets be real, he was a 2 guard with no handles and a so-so defender.  We all knew someone had to go if the Dubs were going to be able to improve down the road. There just wasn't the cap room to keep Beidrins/Monta or to go out and get a rebounder. There definitely wasn't enough to make a run at KG.  Now you can plug Monta in at 2 guard or our top pick, bring back Barnes and possibly bring a veteran low post player for defense.

by jaysohn on Jun 28, 2007 8:51 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Just a question. Are you sure that this guy Wright is worth our Heart and Soul Jason Richardson plus the #36 pick? I dont believe that Mullin did this to us. We are way way way worst than last year. why the hate for mullin
I am one of few that likes this trade.  It took off some salary for future signings and we got the 3rd best player in the draft that is also in a position that we desperately needed.  I'm positive Bellinelli and Monta will pick up the slack that JR left behind.

guys...
Don't over-react. JRich is nice and all but he can't mask the fact that:

a.) We have Stephen Jackson at the 2 - JRich's natural position
b.) JRich is not the greatest 'Nellie guy'. He is just not that versatile
c.) This leave the team several millions under the luxury cap, and that creates tremendous flexibility.

We will miss JRich some nights, but we have a brighter future now if you are looking at a bigger picture.

by MightyReds2020 on Jun 28, 2007 9:10 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

i could be wrong
but I think Monta will now start at the 2 and we will see Jackson at the 3.  The Italian will backup Baron & Monta and Buke will be the backup swingman?

Given that JRich didn't create offense off the dribble and didn't play great D, I can see why Nellie and Mullin decided to sacrifice him, but Monta and BeliNelli have a lot of growing up to do.  As does Wright.  wow

by BingBluNT on Jun 28, 2007 10:21 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

A Serious Question
Does this put us under the cap?  That was like an 8 million dollar swing considering we only have to pick up a rookie contract here.

by Dopey on Jun 28, 2007 9:18 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Be Objective
Yes, J-Rich was the heart and soul of the Warriors during his career, but he's never been a great player, an All-Star or a superstar. Yes, he tries hard and is loved by the fans, but he's been the centerpiece of a bunch of losing teams. He gets credit for keeping his chin up and trying to improve, but the W's need big men.

He plays a position that the W's have a lot of depth. The W's just got the 2nd best PF in the draft, which fills a HUGE need for them with a guy who could be a future stud. They got younger and cheaper. This was definitely a good deal for the W's.

Left hand, right hand, it doesn't matter. I'm amphibious.

What's with the general negativity towards Mullin and this deal? This was an absolutely wonderful deal, it's amazing the Warriors pulled it off. We just gained a big who can flourish in a fast-break style offense--a guy who has great hands and a great wingspan, and can finish around the rim. We gained a hell of a lot of cap room to resign Biedrins and Ellis. And we get an 11 million dollar trade exception, to boot. Dont underrate the trade exception, that's HUGE.

Guys, J-Rich is a great player. We all know that. But he wasn't getting us to the next level, and he certainly wasn't getting any better or more aggressive in the paint. This deal gets us better in so many ways that it's almost funny how much you guys seem to dislike the trade. It gives us flexibility, talent, and size. And it gives us a great shot at landing KG, should we go that route.

Mullin negativity...
You can't tell me we couldn't get more for Richardson and we have to throw in a second round draft pick? There was a reason this guy slipped down in the draft.
If he turns out to be Chris Bosh, great, we made the right move, but in the end I think we could have gotten a lot more for Richardson.
Now we have to hope that this guy pans out or that Mullin has something else up his sleeve to get us a legitimate low post threat that can rebound.

I hate the Dubs
5 years ago when the Dubs grab Mike "Done"leavy, that was the straw that broke the camel's back. I stopped watching the Dubs. I told myself I boycott the Warriors for 10years or when the "Dumba55"leavy is traded. As Dunleavy left, the Dubs were in the playoffs. This time I am really pissed. The Dubs had a missed matched every night in the backcourt. Now teams can switch their 2 guard on Baron. The Dubs now have two big man with all the athleticism in the world, but no talent. Dubs will always be Losers. Richmond for Owens, Hardaway for Seikly, Webber for Googliated, Sprewell for nothing, and the list goes on. I'll miss J-Rich. Mullin and the Dubs can stick it. Go JRich. I hope you make the Dubs pay. No longer a fan signing off.

To DisappointedfanAgain:
Ya this is Justin of Oakland...When I was growing up, gaining an understanding of the game, my team was the Warriors. This was just after the break up of Chris Webber, and things were all going to shit. This was an era, when Tony Delk and Brian Shaw were the best guys on your team. I watched every game, and defended them against ANYONE who talked bad about my team. Even though I threw up in my mouth watching them get blown out game after game, and only winning 17 games one season. STILL, I raised my flag higher than ever before. No feeling can describe what I felt as we rode to victory against the "best" team in basketball in round 1.
Point is, YOU NEVER WERE A WARRIORS FAN! You, are just another sucker in the fan world. You will love any team or anyone while they are on top, and then you will kick them while their already down, and piss on their good name, you Judas Iscariot!
What do you think a "fan" is??? A fan's love for his only team, should be compared to a father's love for his only son. He will never give up on him, he will never stop loving him, and he will always beilieve in him. You are not now, obviously, never have been, and never will be, a true fan of any team. You are a perfect example of this new band-wagon decay that is plaguing the Oakland Warriors. I am glad your gone, and hope that you, or anyone one else like you, will stay away when we have finally risen.
This is my team There are many like it But this one is mine. My team, without me is useless. Without my team, I am useless

Hmm
I guess I have to put my 2 cents in.

Here is the deal. EVERYBODY on this website bitched about the Warriors getting outrebounded all season long, especially against the Jazz in the playoffs, and what did the Warriors do? Go out and get a big man who can run. What did everyone expect the Warriors to do? Stand pat with the team they have, and hope the magic happens all over again?

This trade is beautiful....trust me, my wife and I were as sad as anybody yesterday, but I woke up this morning, and realized what happened, and actually like it. The trade exception is huge. Not only did the Warriors save over 9 million, they got a trade exception out of it, who Mullin might just turn into a player close to J Rich's caliber.

I love JRich, I will miss him, and all my JRich material officially becomes throwback gear, but I think this improves the Warriors a little this year, and a LOT in the years to come. I will be the first one at the Oracle to show JRICH some love when the Cats are in town.

Stay up Dubs fans..its all going to be good.

Jrich trade
This is how it goes. this is the NBA. Players you love get traded. Its how it works. Jrich was a good player and I appreciate everything he did for the warriors. But the fact of the matter is he is not good enough to lead us to a championship. If the warriors felt this way too, it makes most sense to trade for a player who, if reaches his full potential, can lead us to a ship. Wright is a stud. You cant average 15 points in the ACC as a freshman without having an offensive game. He boards, blocks shots...everything the warriors need. Sure he is a project player in some regards, but the kid can flat out play. He will be a KG/Chris Bosh type of player in the pros. He will hold down the front line and average 20/10 for years to come. Monta will take over for Jrich and  continue to develop into one of the better young guards in the league. So when the warriors are in the playoffs consistently for the next 10 years, you can thank Chris Mullin for making this deal. I love Jrich, but this trade will work out in the long run. And for god sake don't boo Wright once he shows up in Oakland, its not his fault he was dealt.

Jason Richardson Appreciation Campaign
This is a sad day for Warriors fans.  Needless tosay, we're all sad to see JR go. As a gesture of our appreciation for his dedication to the team and fans, we have started a fund raising campaign to take out a full page ad in a local paper thanking JRich for his work as a Warrior both on and off the court. Please visit our site:

I am very happpy
I'm so glad the Warriors pulled off this trade for all the obvious reasons.  But it depresses me to know that 'Dissappointed Fan Again' is no longer a fan.  Please come back to us, we are nothing without you.  :[

Brandan Wright's #1 Fan
I would just like to say that I love this trade and Warrior fans you need to stop hating on Brandan the warriors told charlotte who to draft and J-Rich was good but not great and Wright is expected to be all-star good and with his 7 foot 4 wingspan and maybe we wont get out rebounded by utah 50-25 and go deep into playoffs
