FRIDAY AUGUST 3rd: Warrior Girl Procedurial Protest
Some of you have been following some of the developments of the recent Warriors dance team's extreme makeover. Thank you to Spidz's for the diary, "Warriors girl conspiricy!!!," JmakemeRichinlasvegas for "Warrior Girls Updates," and warriorgirl for "Warrior Girls: the Truth" for their updates. In short summary, the allegations are that the changes in this area of the Warriors organization, in part brought on by new dance director Susan Hovey, has led to the unfair treatment of many, now former, Warrior girls. In the most recent developments, the Angry Warrior Girl Fans group are organizing a speak out against the Warriors organizations and the unfair treatment they have shown to these particular loyal employees. This event will definitely provide some more details to these unsettling changes in the Warriors organization. Here are the details:
WHEN: Friday, August 3rd, 3PM
WHERE: in front of Oakland Convention Center (or in Front of the Warriors office?)
Several hundred Warrior fans will meet in front of the Oakland Convention
Center to demonstrate the injustice the Warriors have shown towards former
Warrior Girl team members. The new team was selected in an unfair manner.
We will bring signs and make our voices heard.
CONTACT:
WarriorsProtest@gmail.com
If you are able to make this, please show our friends some support (as many have already on this blog)! Like many of us, many of the ex-Warrior girls have stuck through the Warriors through thick and thin and helped made our Warriors experiences that much better!
Thanks to Angry Warrior Girls Fan group for the information. Could someone please confirm details on the location just in case? Also feel free to continue sharing your support in the threads listed above or in this one.

I agree with you, eddie
And also, eddie, I like your animated JRich webpin. Your two posts are right next to each other (or were before I posted this, sorry) and the two webpins are at the exact same spot in the animation. I must be really tired, but I find that amusing.

Sigh
Furthermore, if there really is a story here, you'd think that seeking media support and publicity would be wise. Surely 13 people willing to talk out about a part of one of the Bay's larger pop cultural occurrences in recent years (the recent warriors frenzy)would make entertaining press.

Warrior Girl March
It cracks me up when someone tells me to check out these type of boards, it's always people in the surrounding areas who know nothing about MY hometown and the proudness we gained for this team long before you got your history lesson through you first rap album, or CD.
Real Warrior fans wouldn't even dream of creating a dialogue about some damn cheerleaders but now that you have, I'll do like David Alan Grier's character in In Living Color, 'Wrote a Little Song About it, Like to Hear it, Hear It Go."
Fake boobs and smiles, ah...the life of a professional team cheerleader. As an Oakland native, it's no secret that the Warrior Girls have always been an afterthought, a joke in fact, until last season. Season after season we've had to endure the white collared-kind infiltrating ORACLE Arena, getting their yearly dose of urban life by traveling through the streets of Oakland in order to watch a game and see nothing on the court for dancers that truly don't represent what Oakland is - FLAVOR.
Finally we some dancing flavor with with some hip-hop that has you on the edge of your seats. Remember when the crowd would cheer louder for the Weekend Warriors? A group of middle-aged overweight men? How quickly we forget that during the All-Star year in 2000 pop star Pink was overheard talking and laughing about how horrible the 'host' teams cheerleaders were, that means US, Golden State of Mind bloggers. I think what we have here are young girls and wannabe women; (I call it the 1980's -time-out generation who needed a belt put to the ass) who don't see this as an opportunity to positively affect their community. But hey, most of these girls know nothing about the history of the team and they certainly know nothing about 73rd and E. 14th, I mean, International Blvd. They come from priviledged communities where their stage moms taught them how to be evil to their fellow 'sisters' from the time they learned their first F-Word...FAKE.
For the dudes who can't wait to check out the website or the calendars for the fresh new meat -don't like the smooth taste fool ya, these chicks are evil and if you're dating or married to one of these 'Barbies,' you better believe she's doing you and one of the starting five. Now we have blogs being made about cheerleading directors, gimme a freakin' break!
Wilt Chamberlian (Remember him? He was a Warrior originally) must be rolling in his grave! Where is the sisterhood? Stop your bitc*n and tighten up ya game, like R. Kelly said. Take all the negative energy and put it into something positive. (That goes for you too fellas, I know you're mad that you can't brag to your friends anymore about your girl making the team.)
From what I know, Susan Hovey came to this team with an open mind and when she laid down the law like a real woman should, she gets backlash. Former Dir. Shelby tried to be everyones friend and you all hated Nicole who danced out there pregnant with twins and out of shape. A fresh face comes in, a single mother of a young school aged daughter, and now you all want to put her and her baby out on the streets because you didn't make the team. How selfish especially when you're not thinking of a childs life being turned upside down because the mean lady did you wrong. You guys were weak and untalented, you were better but no one thought you rocked.
In reading the blogs it makes all the sense in the world why you're no longer a Warrior Girl, you have issues: too many to list but primarily anger/betrayal issues. It proves how messy you are, a real woman is never heard and moves quietly to get what she wants, she doesn't broadcast it to the world but you're not a woman yet, bless your heart, that's why you don't get it.
What's wrong? You can't get the star guards attention since your teammate is working it from her angle near his bench? Hey, aren't you 29 and need to start thinking of a family and career or is your past too polluted to do anything else that wouldn't deem you to a seedy place that has poles.'We Believe' it is a new day and that's why you're not in the plans, case closed. There is nothing worse than a woman scorned I tell ya. It's time for the Kobe's to go and the Shaq's to rise, move on, former means something...you USED to be.
Now go and make someone else's dance team miserable, oh, I forgot, you probably can't cause your name is mud since you all can't seem to shut-up when it comes to losing. You've already given away so many signs on who you are and you have no idea that people really know who you are. But that's ok you're messing it up all across the Bay for yourselves in future auditions that you may have interest in.
Someone said their friend was a 3-year vet and got cut, don't you think that's a little long to be bouncing around on the court? Can't you do something else with your time like devote it to some underserved kids... IN THE CITY OF OAKLAND? Let it go sister, let it GO! March for children's rights, (oh yea, you are a child, sorry.) not for your pride being wounded.
This is going to make you look even dumber than the Bay Area already thinks you are. Believe me when I say, NO ONE KNOWS YOU AND NO ONE CARES, YOU ARE NOT THE RAIDERETTES.
There are always two sides to the story and I've heard them both. I hope it helps you build character, something you lack or we wouldn't even be knowing what went on in your 'house.' That's why men deem us messy and they're right! Susan isn't going anywhere and since you're no longer on the squad, suck it up and take it like a real woman would along with your official 'former' title with ya! In the words of Oakland Native Too Short...Biiii*h.

the contradictions within your whole response are pretty apparent. on the one hand, you believe that cheerleading is completely pathetic and socially irresponsible (isn't that pretty generic to rely on the "po' folk" in east oakland...people here in Michigan even say things like that, c'mon). Then on the other hand, you go again uphold what "real" cheerleading by saying that cheerleaders need to be of a specific calibre (since Pink punked em'). You THEN try to redeem the most recent dance director with quite a bit of insider info that i don't think us super fans would know. For someone who started off so firey and anti-cheerleading seems to really still care for the state of cheerleading since they're not "raiderettes" in your book, which I'm assuming is the highest honor in the bay (you mean its not the Saberkittens?).
I'm not against you using this space to discuss the city and the world's larger state of affairs, especially in relation to cheerleading. but the contradictions within your responses don't really make it clear what you are really arguing for.
We are providing a public space for multiple voices to be heard. If Susan or others within the Warriors organization would like to respond to anything, we would be more than happy to give them that opportunity.

Charm School Anyone?
Apparently, this is the way Susan was played all year long by this group of "ladies", constantly having to watch her back for the daggers, and this is just more of the same tired bleeding.
The person that started these blogs says "she doesn't want to get fully involved or speak for the team", yet the intent is clear. "FIRE SUSAN MOVEMENT", isn't that your ultimate goal? Well, it didn't fly at the corporate level with the petition, so now you've turned to this <used to be fun> forum to achieve what you failed at last season. Well, I guess I'd feel bad too if I auditioned for the Gold Rush AND the Raiderettes, didn't make the grade, and then couldn't go back to the Warriors because I screwed myself within that organization!
Speaking of the petition, one post claimed the 3 returning girls on the team are there because they DIDN'T sign the petition. Another says that all the same girls DID sign it. Which is it? If they did sign it, how in the world did they make the new team in the midst of all this "conspiracy"!? Could it be because they have much better attitudes??? (or God forbid, even dance skills?) Could it also be that you were simply outdanced at the auditions by the new girls? Or is that simply not possible because, after all, YOU are a VET!!
Are we really to believe Susan stole everyones playoff tickets and sold them on e-bay? I personally know people that got their tickets through the girls, so where does that come from? Don't you think Corporate would have caught on to that? Don't you think she was watched all year as the new director, ESPECIALLY since she was dodging your daggers the whole season?
It is just SAD that the Warrior Girls have to go through this type of name smearing and embarrassment, prompted by a few passive-aggressive personalities. It is an embarrassment to the entire Warriors organization and anyone who bothers to read this stuff. Shame on GSOM for allowing it on this great website.
The ones I REALLY feel for are the new dancers on the team. If they haven't found this blog yet, they soon will, and they will see the insults being at thrown at them from day one (Kelsey, Leah and Alayna so far!). These girls will be fighting an uphill battle and don't have a hope in hell. They are already prejudged and haven't stepped one foot on the court yet. Wow, nice welcome! I'd be surprized if they don't run like hell after reading this stuff. Another "mission accomplished" by the ex-Warrior Girls. YOU should look in the mirror before you call SUSAN cruel and unfair!
Personally, I think all these "diaries" should be deleted and we should move on with our real problems. Ya know, the war in Iraq and our jobs -n- stuff! But if ya'll want to march, then go ahead! It's great exercise!
PEACE OUT on this tired topic!

Yeah
The FUNNIEST part is how everyone says this is a forum where they want to hear all sides of the story, but whenever someone posts something that is NOT anti-Susan, they are attacked by these ex-Warriors girls and told to "shut up, you weren't on the team, you don't have a f'ing clue", etc. Sweeeeet, huh?
How do you now many of these posters weren't on the team? How do you know Susan herself hasn't replied? Seems pretty safe to say that all these new "logins" are either Warrior Girls (ex or current), or those involved directly with the Warrior Girls. There is a ton of "inside info" here!
LISTEN VERY CAREFULLY (as I have!) to the personalities of these ex-WGs and it is apparent why they were cut! On one hand "the new team deserves a chance" and they will "support" them, OH but not "the Seattle has-beens" or "ugly Leah"? "As for their "Pretty faces"? Maybe, but definitely UGLY SOULS!
I say the old ones need to suck up their losses and WE need to SUPPORT OUR NEW DANCE TEAM! By the way, is anyone still VOTING???

Hey
Yes, it is clear that GSoM should have been informed of this as it was begining in early fall but it seems as though the girls had the class NOT to go public with their dirty laundry, that is until they felt they had no other choice. If you are in favor of Susan I can see how the WG's look as though they are bitchy, bitter dolls that are just looking for a fight. The truth is many of you out there saw how this team changed either it be in your favor or not, but you DID notice a change and from what I have read it wasn't the for the best. Should Susan be fired? Maybe. I guess we'll see by what product is placed before us as Warrior Entertainment this season.
Many of you have said "why don't they just quit if they were treated to badly!" Would you quit a job in which you have worked so hard to get that often comes once in a lifetime that others try out for every year and few make? Not so easy now is it? Also, I can tell by some of your comments that you are "guessing" who it is that left them and are attacking that person you placed in your mind. I can tell you now that this is my FIRST comment and I have read pretty cruel remarks reguarding my persons. It looks like everyone needs to take a DEEP BREATH and remember.... This is supposed to be fun!
Peace out, Love y'all!!!

The only reason....
Some think that they have no place in basketball, but i admit that it's a fun part of the whole arena experience. Especially after paying those crazy ticket prices i accept any bonuses they can throw my way. And i hope that a talented dance troup with a lot of eye candy is a part of that.

Wrong place
As much as i think that the dance team is an important part of the home game experience i really think that this whole affair should be dealt with internally. Being outsiders, the majority of us dont really know what's going on here and shouldn't really have a say in who should their job(s). This subject matter should really be taken off the main page.

as some others have said
Granted, we don't know the full extent of the story and who's telling the ultimate "truth" (isn't truth subjective anyway). These "truths" would probably have a huge impact on people's ability to make complaints in addition to garnering support for them.
But putting that aside for now, what i'm saying is, the point of labor laws and labor unions historically have been to protect workers from corporate exploitation. i don't think any of them have said they want their jobs back but merely to let people know of the working conditions of the last year. true there are bigger problems out there in the world like war, world-hunger, aids, natural disasters, etc. (or the easiest "its in your backyard" problems in East Oakland as people keep bringing up) but that's a strawman argument. Using that logic, other unfair labor practices aren't important, our individual livelihoods wouldn't be important, and entertainment like professional sports would be the LEAST important things in our lives since were basically paying for leisure instead of doing something productive. If you find dancing to be insignificant to your life, that's fine. but why would dancers have to be any more accountable to society or socially responsible than anyone else? Why should they be the exception, when everyone should be accountable to that "rule"?

I love the double standard people just throw out there when it comes to women. Im so sick of seeing these blonde model girls with the bodies of 12 yr. old boys being told how beautiful they are, while thicker women who are just as beautiful and have the same right to attention get neglected and dont make the team as much.

there have been in fact many people who have said out right that these women should have "just quit" if they didn't like what was happening. Either that, or they have basically said that their work isn't considered labor. track back at previous comments if you want proof.

Thank you
Please allow me to make some points about your Warrior Girls. Dance is a sport (yes, just a basketball is), and these dancers are professionals. Most have 10+ years formal training under the belt and professional dance backgrounds. They are hired to dance on the court and represent the Warriors in the community, and they just want to dance, have fun and entertain you. They LOVE their jobs. They deserve every ounce of your respect and gratitude. It angers me to read comments degrading them as women or dancers. Nellie is working hard to elevate the Warriors reputation, and there you go pulling it right back into the garbage can. The Warrior Girls work their butts off for you, so show some respect.
I am not one of the posters who said they should have just "quit". We are a democracy, and are entitled to use our voice or even protest if they want to. They DID use their voice and WERE successful in making some changes last year! The issue I have is that many of their accusations are just BOGUS. I have already addressed the playoff ticket issue, the girls all got their tickets, and accusing the director of selling them on e-bay is RIDICULOUS! As for not sharing in calendar profits... noone ever promised them "profit sharing". They were fully paid for the weekend of the shoot, but they aren't telling you that. Really now, are the players getting profit share for each basketball or jersey that is sold in the store? More likely, they are paid for the autograph session, not the actual sales, just as the dancers are. Having to stay late sometimes for practice? C'mon, we all have to do overtime at our jobs on occasion, and we ALL have to suck it up! That applies to EVERY job, no matter the venue. As far as the girls hooking up with players or making out in dark corners, that is all rumored hype and catty accusation, maybe even jealousy, and none of us will ever know the facts there. If one is guilty, I'm sure they all are, is that really a job-related complaint?
If there was any real substance to their complaints I would back them 100% and protest right along with them, but I just don't see it. But we are all entitled to our opinions, so if you plan on joining the rally, good luck and I hope it does good things. Any publicity is good publicty! Ask Paris.

one more thing...
Cheerleading's always been a fruitless aspect to me. When Im at the game, Im in my zone, and anything that breaks my attention from the game is frowned upon in my eyes.
However, when Im out on the streets, Im more drawn to women with some meat on their bodies, and Ive got the right to say I like it. Its a completely natural thing for people to be sexually attracted.
I dont believe it is sexist to say I like this or want to see more of that...
The sexist thing to do would be to seek out a specific girl and say innappropriate things to her face. I see guys doing shit like that all the time, following a girl around that wants nothing to do with them, and still being hella stupid and persistent when she's obviously not interested at all.
These are sexist things that should be frowned upon. If I like big booty women as opposed to blonde haired, fake-breasted, super thin models...than so be it. How is that being sexist?

Thanks
I think that this is the problem with this subject matter. The only real connection most fans have with this issue is from a fan's persective. Some appreciate the dancers as entertainers doing their job. Others only care if they are attractive enough to distract and attract them sexually.
It's a matter that should be dealt with internally. Actually, i think i'm posting a little too much on this subject and i can probably be accused of being a hypocrite too since i have Warrior Girl wallpaper on my office computer.
Damn i can't wait for some real Warrior's news to talk about.

thats why I think...
Although this replacement would never happen(in my opinion would bring more excitement and family oriented atmosphere), the point is that the Warrior girls ARE being presented to be made sexually attractive. Thats why they come out there in their cute new uni's and its why they bend over and touch the court with those little skirts on....Come on now, is that not supposed to be meant to grab someone's attention in a sexual way? Especially to the beer drinking horny fan that constantly whistles and howls sloppily througout the entire performance?
Or is it just "art" and should be looked at from strictly that angle. I think if talent is the issue rather than looks, than there is HUGE room for improvement.
To the Warrior girl who is a fan of the team, is a better dancer/performer than the rest, and truly loves what she's doing, taking nothing for granted: We all love and appreciate you, thats pretty safe to say from a young fan's estimation. Cant be mad at a true Warrior girl, ever.

Come on people...
If you're NOT a returning girl then move on. You did it and you're done now. Think bigger, set higher goals for yourself. Don't waist your time with all this.
And for the new team, as a guy I think they are all pretty in there own way. You need to remember that it isn't all about the looks but the talent.
Plus the Glam Team has not even gotten there hands on the girls yet. It will be a huge transformation. Did you people see lasts years girls at the tryouts? All I have to say was WOW. I couldn't believe it was the same set of girls on the court when the season started. The Glam Team does wonders and I'm excited to see what those two girls come up with this season. Big Ups to them.
See you at the Games,

They need to get a life and move on!!!
There is such a thing as making the team and being grateful that you made it and appreciating it for what it is. There seemed to be a lot of WG members that didn't appreciate being there and constantly complained...JUST DEAL WITH IT AND IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT QUIT. It's not just one person that makes all the decisions anyways and I'm pretty sure that the 7 people out of 17000+ that would actually clap for them won't miss them that much.
