Hype Up BD's Posterization on AK47

I wanted to bring to your attention a major travesty my fellow GSoMers. Our friends at Ballhype have been running a Bracketfest of the NBA Season's Best Posterizations and they're down to the final two dunks- Baron Davis' UNSTOPPABLE BABY dunk on Andrei Kirilenko in an unforgettable playoff game for the Golden State Warriors and Ronnie Price's jam on Carlos Boozer in a meaningless regular season game for the Pacific Division doormat Sacramento Kings.

Now I'm not going to minimize the Sactown slam that Price threw down whatsoever (it was simply nasty!), but how in the name of Zarko Cabarkapa can Baron Davis' East Bay Funk Dunk 2007 not win this competition hands down? It was arguably THE dunk of the 2007 playoffs. Look Price's dunk was nice, but I didn't see Stephen Jackson dusting his shoulders off for the slam. I didn't see Mickael Pietrus, Matt Barnes, or Adonal Foyle looking stunned. I didn't see over 20,000 of the league's best fans going NUTS. I also didn't see it on 2 different channels with 2 different sets of announcers losing their cot damn mind:

On ESPN...

On FSN Bay Area...

Unfortunately my fellow We Believers BD's dunk as of this writing shockingly only holds 10% of the 489 votes in this poll- it's getting beat down like the Mavs against the Warriors in the 1st round. The good news is that there's only about 440 Warrior haters + Kings fans + Jazz fans + Mavericks fans out there and there's over 8,000 GSoMers. Please, please vote for Boom Dizzle on this Ballhype Bracketfest. As you know stuffing ballots is our specialty here (just ask our friends at Mavs Moneyball about how scared they were to face the Warriors). To quote the Public Enemy classic- IT TAKES A NATION OF MILLIONS TO HOLD US BACK.

We Believe this shouldn't even be a contest.

UP!

Vote for BD: Our friends at Sactown Royalty are shaking in their farmer boots and worried silly about us rocking the vote. They already know what we did in their house back in April. Let's do this!

UPDATE (9:10am 7/9/07):

Baron Davis Wins!!

It's another shock the world victory by Warriors Nation. BD's dunk was down 10% to 90%, but with a little We Believe Boom Dizzle came from behind to win it decisively 62% to 38%. The GSoM community is UNSTOPPABLE BABY!

barnes reaction
the reaction by foyle and pietrus got alot of attention, but barnes' hands-on-his-head disbelief on FSN was underrated.

by warriordean on Jul 8, 2007 1:22 AM PDT reply actions

Re: barnes reaction
Agreed.  Top reactions in my book were from Barnes ... and the Clerks guy who was watching the replay on the Jumbotron.

by jgurney on Jul 8, 2007 1:38 AM PDT up reply actions

Baron's dunk
brought the most energy out of ALL the dunks from the 06-07 season. It was during a playoff game, it was on one of the top shotblockers in the league, and Stephen Jackson put the finishing touches on that highlight when he dusted Baron's shoulders at the end.

Ronnie Price's dunk isn't even all that great. It wass pretty nice but it doesn't make you jump outta your seat and scream like Baron's dunk did.

by Five Ten Entertainment on Jul 8, 2007 1:57 AM PDT reply actions

forgot to add
that it made a crowd that was already loud, even MORE louder. We were all already extremely pumped and screaming but that dunk just made the fans in Oracle even more crazy.

Serious
Word to Big Bird, I agree with that, I'll never forget that night, seeing the replay of The Dunk and everyones expression... I remember fanning my wife with that freebie We Believe Sign coz it drained everyone in our section. That play is gonna be fun filled stories when i have Grand Children!

Voted.
You cannot compared these two dunks.

The Difference
Voted for BD

Boozer didn't try to block the shot and he's not a shot blocker.

Kirilenko did try to block the shot and he's a premier shot blocker.

Good point
The thing that did it for me was Jax brushing BD's shoulders off though. Haha

Both dunks
deserve a lot of praise, but it's definitely a no-contest with B-Diddy's dunk. He dunked on AK-47's mug in a playoff game. AK-47 actually went up for the block and deliberately missed time his jump. Boozer didn't even go up for the block, but instead was in the way of Price. AK-47 simply dominated us during the series and B-Diddy had to take matters into his own hands. His chest-showing celebration was just icing on the cake. I really thought that AK-47 was gonna block the shot or B-Diddy was gonna opt for a circus lay-up. The only wow factor I observed with Price's dunk was that it came with his off hand, that's it. The guy has major hops, but it came in a meaningless regular season game. Boozer is an inconsistent shot blocker. His teammate AK-47 is a top 3 shot blocker. Also, it's worth mentioning that B-Diddy was still recovering from leg injuries throughout the entire playoffs. It was just too amazing to witness someone with leg injuries to rise above for the occasion on such a notorious shot blocker.

BD has to win
if for no other reason, he should get the nod over price because he popped his jersey and showed off his back-brace after the dunk. That's yellow bus!

by Jeremy Belvins on Jul 8, 2007 4:32 PM PDT reply actions

good point
by the way bd is winning 53% to 47%. nice!

It's kinda funny. I think the GSoM community can easily beat out any other NBA team blog community other than Celtics Blog: http://celticsblog.com/

I'm not very fond of the Celtics and their fans or Boston in general for that matter, but the Celtics Blog folks are alright in my book. Jeff does a fantastic job over there. It would be interesting to see GSoM go head to head against Celtics Blog in some poll.

I share your sentiments
...most especially with regard to THE RED SUX!

by Jeremy Belvins on Jul 8, 2007 5:55 PM PDT up reply actions

Unstoppable, baby!
Yeah, that was quite a strong showing today, especially for a weekend.  Thankfully, it looks like the better dunk is going to win.

GSoM vs. CelticsBlog would definitely be a clash of the titans (as we have known for months).  We'll have to find a way to make that happen at some point.

by jgurney on Jul 8, 2007 8:34 PM PDT up reply actions

LOL!
What a comeback in the voting. This is like when we went on an improbably 16-5 run to end the season and clinch the playoffs.

Ronny Price voters thought we were dead, now we're coming back to clinch that number 1 dunk spot.

by Five Ten Entertainment on Jul 8, 2007 7:08 PM PDT reply actions

WINNING!!
Right now it´s 56% to 44% to BD after I voted. You´re right ATMA, this shouldnt even be a contest.
F**K REFS!!!

gsom hooks up bd with the win
since i read this post and casted my own vote this morning, bd has received an additional 450 votes and  price has received less than 75.

by stedanko on Jul 8, 2007 8:30 PM PDT reply actions

It's 56% BD to 44% price after I voted.
There's a lot of cool dunks on there, but how is Vince Carter's dunk over Zo not on this list. I know it had no chance of beating Diddy's dunk, but man is it sick. Check it out.

Really?
I could have sworn it was this year for some reason. If I'm wrong... F it. everybody makes mistakes. Doesn't take away the nastyness.

The best thing about the ESPN clip...
At the 0:16 mark, the ticker at the bottom flashes "Mavericks F Dirk Nowitzki named MVP" right after the announcer says "Baron's house" and right before another shot of Baron.

game.set.match
Baron wins 62% to 38%!!!!!! (information that might not be worthy of the six exclamation points i used but oh well its summer).

Bavetta T's up Baron
but the timeless dunk shows how the refs cost the Dubs the series.  We got NO calls.  I'm still upset about the NBA and its poor officiating.
