GSoF Version 2.0 - It's in the Game!

First, thanks to the starting 5, Tony.psd, , and the whole GSoM community for the warm welcome! It feels amazing to be part of the movement, and I know this football season will be a great one!

With so much drama in the No Fun League over this last off-season, who knows what's in store for the regular season? From the end of the Super Bowl, we've seen Adam "Pacman" Jones of the Tennessee Titans be suspended from the league a year and then decide to join Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA) with a non-physical role. Apparently Pacman won't be hitting strippers in the TNA either....

I wanna see him go head to head against "Macho Man" Randy Savage!

Sadly, we saw the passing of away of the great Bill Walsh on July 30th. With his influencing shining through every major Bay Area football team - the Niners, the Raiders, the Cal Bears, and the Stanford Cardinal - his presence will truly be missed. Rest in Peace Coach Walsh.

The Bay will miss you Coach Walsh

And don't even get me started about this Vick business. Guess the experience is over...

Who will be playing in Super Bowl XLII in Arizona? Will we see a "Battle of the Bay?" I say yes! IF

  • Alex Smith gets has an average QB rating of 115
  • Jamarcus signs tomorrow
  • Frank "The Tank" Gore doesn't get injured again
  • Michael Huff gets 20 interceptions
  • Ashley Lelie scores 15 TDs
  • Robert Gallery shows that he was worth the first round pick and learns how to block
  • 80 Million Dollars proves that he's worth that
  • Most of all, Sebastian Janikowski stops drinking

Hey it could happen, right?

But before we get to the Bay Area's finest, let's begin with the most boring division of all after the jump.

Star-divide

The AFC East!!

New England Patriots
Let's see...the Patriots have won this division 5 out of the last 6 years, have won the Super Bowl three times this decade, and NOW are giving Tom Brady some amazing receivers? The Patriots are quoted to have had the BEST offseason out of any team with the additions of Adalius Thomas, Randy Moss, Donte Stallworth, and first-round draft pick Brandon Merriweather. As much as I hate to say this, it doesn't even matter how this team does in the regular season as long as they make the playoffs because as Tom Brady has proven time and time again, he has a special "on" switch that he turns on come January. Everyone predicts this team to be the best in the NFL and to win the Super Bowl, but we have all seen what happens to teams that are "guaranteed" the championship, Mavericks, anyone?

Prediction: 13-3 (AFC East Division Champion)

"Oh yeah, and I'm STILL bitter about this"

Miami Dolphins
New coach and a new QB equals success, right? Cam Cameron and Trent Green = Don Shula and Dan Marino version 2.0? Umm...no. The Dolphins are coming off an abysmal offensive season but still show promise with their strong defense with likes of defensive player of the year Jason Taylor, Zach Thomas, and offseason addition Joey Porter. And defense wins games right? Contrary to what the Oakland Raiders showed us last year, this is usually the case and should be for the Miami Dolphins. Chris Chambers should make a comeback this year. However, this team is not good enough to make the playoffs...yet.

Prediction: 10-6

These two are more like the beta version

By the way, anyone know where Marcus Vick went?

New York Jets
Sure sure, Eric Mangini is an amazing coach, Chad Pennington has his moments, and Bay Area's finest Jerry Rice came in a few weeks ago and gave these boys a pep talk. But are they good enough? Nope! I do believe that there will be some nice fantasy sleepers on this team (Jerricho Cotchery and Thomas Jones) but not much else. Jonathan Vilma should play well and add much to Mangini's 3-4 defense, but I don't see a return to the playoffs this year.

Prediction 8-8

Expect a lot of this

Buffalo Bills
I can understand why the Bills guys didn't have $80 million to keep Nate Clements, but Takeo Spikes and London Fletcher-Baker too? The Buffalo Bills watched their veteran players slip away this offseason and it's going to cost them. They are a young team with some talented players - Lee Evans and Bay Area's own Marshawn Lynch - but they still have a developing starting QB in J.P. Losman. Some can easily argue that he's farther along than Alex Smith, but unlike the 9ers this team is still in the "rebuilding" phase. Lynch should tear things up, but he can't do this one himself. Things don't look good for a team that made it to the Super Bowl 4 times straight 15 years ago...

Prediction: 5-11

At least J.P. Losman will be happy during bath time!!

What are your thoughts about the NFL's offseason and the AFC East?

Any basketball articles coming soon?
I appreciate football and shoes as much as the next guy, but isn't this a Warriors blog?

re
again, it's the offseason and we were told Rizzle would be doing this anyways.

Please think before you post a comment
Is that how we welcome a new writer to GSoM? R Dizzle was brought on to revive our NFL section. If you don't want to talk about football and only Warriors here then don't read and post on the NFL articles. It's that simple.

i agree
this is a warriors blog or the least you could do is keep it in the bay area talking about the bills and jets there are only 2 teams that matter in the nfl and thats THE 49ERS AND THE 49ERS ya the raiders suc

by gswLLBatman on Aug 27, 2007 5:25 PM PDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

uh...
i think this is a general AFC east preview. its not as if he's talking about the jets and patriots just cuz he likes them.

re
ya dude, chill out.
Everyone was told Rizzle would be doing this anyways.
Plus, it's the offseason and there is nothing else to talk about.

You want to see all Niners talk? Go to Niner Nation.

Try reading before posting
Again, R Dizzle was brought on solely to write about the NFL for us.  That's been made 100% clear. What part of that do you not get?

Dont post nonsense like this. It's disrespectful especially when we're bringing on a new guest writer. That's not how we treat folks here.

I saw
Pacman jones on TNA that day.

Here
Here are my predictions for the AFC East:

Patriots 11-5
Jets 10-6
Dolphins 8-8
Bills 7-9

With the breakout player being Ronnie Brown of the Dolphins but Marshawn Lynch outa Cal doing pretty good as a rook for the Bills. Patriots regulate and dominate, but the Jets continue their winning ways with Mangini, and somehow, get second in the division.

can someone please explain
to me what exactly it is that pac man jones does on "TNA."  My brother watches that crap and from what i hear he basically just walks out and talks or does something stupid and i watched a little and it was pretty ridiculous.  can someone please explain the situation.  is he going to fight?  i herd that he can't fight because of his contract or something.

by Proof on Aug 27, 2007 11:02 PM PDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Actually,
that's all Pacman is going to do for the TNA. His contract with the Titans won't allow him to do anything physical outside of the Titans. He's basically filling his time with that ridiculous crap by going out, talking some smack, and then running away. He's also working on his music career with producer Spoaty as they will release their first single "Let it Shine" today (August 28th). Flyer than Primtime? I highly doubt it.

I got a trivia question for you...who can stop number 5?

by R Dizzle on Aug 28, 2007 12:57 AM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

AFC Least
Patriots 7-9 (The cancer called Moss)
Jets 9-7
Dolphins 8-8
Bills 4-12

Someones
crazy.

People said that about TO, and Dallas stayed the same. I don't see the situation being any different in New England (except for the fact that Testaverde won't pull a Romo).

If the best record in that descision is 9-7, I'll....uhhh...take a pie in the face. OR something. Point being, very unlikely.

TO vs Moss
I think they're very different people. Both are prima dona's but very, very different both on and off the field. TO is loud and I don't get the impression that Moss is a loud guy anymore in the lockerroom (if he ever was). TO always comes to play (though he has some mental lapses when he drops passes), but I question whether Moss comes to play hard every single down. TO has always been a more complete player than Moss and will continue to be.

Off the field TO does a lot of good things and has been a relative model citizen with his several charities. The same can't be said by Moss who's had some stupid brushes with the law.

So I guess what I'm trying to say is I'd rather have a character like TO who's loud and sometimes obnoxious as hell (though the media has probably blown it out of proportion), but comes to play and gives it 110% rather than a guy like Moss who's seeming lack of effort and commitment are cancerous. That whole Raider offense last year seemed to lethargic and vets like Moss set tone- well that and their "breakfast in bed" offense.

by Atma Brother ONE on Aug 29, 2007 12:50 AM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Well, I guess we can agree to disagree
But I think that even if he doesn't come to play every down, is that really hurting the Pats anymore then who they had last season at WR? I don't really think so.

As far as Moss setting the offense....I don't really think the Raiders would've done much better if he had been the "JRich" of that team, anyway. This year, his team is championship caliber, so he has reason to play.

So...eh, we'll see whos right and who's wrong eventually.

Try following your own advice
I wasn't bashing the writer, it's a good NFL preview. I look forward to your 2007/2008 NHL preview in lieu of any discussion about Nellie's contract negotiations or FIBA Tournaments involving Warriors players.

You've got to be kidding me
You post the first comment for our new guest writer and it's:
Any basketball articles coming soon?
I appreciate football and shoes as much as the next guy, but isn't this a Warriors blog?

Don't try and act like that's not a wack welcome. Why did you even need to post that?

Please always feel welcome to criticize and give us feedback about what we all write. BUT don't think for a second that it's cool to tell us what we can and cannot write here.

Look we're down several guys right now because of work and school obligations. I'm sorry but I missed your diary about Nellie's contract situation. Thanks for contributing to the community instead of complaining.

by Atma Brother ONE on Aug 27, 2007 11:49 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Sorry
The reason I posted in the first place was because I'm tired of reading everyone's stupid diaries. Since it was a main page article I sort of assumed comments were aimed at "site administration" not just the article author, so that's my bad.

by SpreeForThree on Aug 28, 2007 9:16 AM PDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Honestly
If you want the diaries to be better than set an example and put up a high quality diary. I don't recall seeing you do that recently. Otherwise you're just whining and wasting everyone's time.
